Chapter 47: Chapter 47

XLVII

Sophie's POV

It doesn't feel great.

I have always hated being the center of attention, because I always feared that people wouldn't like me. I wanted them to like me. The looks they are giving us are ones of shock and a few of them are of disgust.

Obviously they don't like it. I feel the intense need to get away from them, so I start pulling Axel with me towards the school.

He follows, his hand tightly gripping mine. "Seriously?" a loud screech sounds behind us.

We turn to see Gina with her hands on her hips, a revolting expression on her face. "I mean, wow. Who the fuck are you two kidding?"

I frown. "Fuck off."

She laughs. "You guys are so pathetic, it hurts me. Especially you, little bitch." she glares at me. "The sooner you give it to him, the sooner he'll let you go and we'll finally be free from all of this charade you two are giving us. So please, just let him bone you and we can all move on with our lives."

Axel sighs and turns me around. "Just ignore her." he whispers in my ear. I can hear her saying some other stuff, but I decide to ignore her and just get inside, to our friends. "Where are we going?" Axel asks.

"To the library. Amber and Liam must be in there." I answer.

"So, they hang out a lot?" he asks, like he wants to imply something. I give him a weird look and smirk. "What are you trying to say? They're just friends, Axel. No need to be overprotective of your little sister."

He gives me a playful glare. "What can I do, it's in my blood."

I chuckle. "I know." I say and he leans down and kisses my temple. Blushing, I look down at the ground. After a minute, we manage to arrive to the library where I always meet my friends.

"Are you sure they're here?" he asks me and I nod, confidently.

"Of course, they're just probably reading between the bookshelves." We take a few steps in, looking for them.

"Soph, I don't think-" Axel begins, when we're almost at the complete end of the library, but a sight cuts him off.

There, nestled deeply by the wall on the end of the aisle, are Amber and Liam, just not how they usually are. She is comfortably seated in his lap, curled up to him. Her arms are around his neck and his are around her body. Their mouths are joined in a kiss. Not me not Axel say anything for a few moments, both in slight shock, and then his hand leaves mine and he takes the few steps towards them, yanking Amber up by her arm.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" he growls, and in this moment, I feel really bad for her, and even worse for Liam. Obviously, I'm not the only one suffering from his overprotection.

Liam quickly stands up, his face determined, but I see a trace of fear on his face. He has no chance against Axel if they get in a fight; he is smaller, has less muscles and a whole less experience. So, I hurry up and step in between them.

"Let me go, Axel, fuck." Amber yanks her arm from his grip and goes to stand next to Liam.

Axel lunges for him, but I stop him, putting my hand on his chest. He looks down at me, his eyes black with rage. "That's my sister, Sophie." he says with low voice.

"And my best friend, Axel." I say and he huffs.

He looks up and glares at Liam. "How long has this been going on for?"

"Not long, literally only a day." Liam replies and gulps. He pulls Amber to stand behind him. She peeks at the scene from above his shoulder. He is a head taller than her, just right. As I look at them, together, I come to conclusion that they make a perfect couple. I squeal and clap my hands before lunging at them and hugging them with all my might.

"I'm so happy for you guys, you make such a cute couple." I say in their ears and they both chuckle. "Thanks, Soph." Liams says with a huge grin when I back off from them.

"You could learn from your girlfriend, dickass." Amber says to her brother. His eyes are still in slits, his yaw clenched. He looks enraged, so I walk up to him and lean on his side in an attempt to comfort him. However, he pushes me off of him and turns around.

"I gotta go." he says over his shoulder and then, he's out of my sight. I ignore the slight pain in my chest at his reaction, because I understand him. This must be quite hard for him, and he's had a hard day as well. A lot of this happened, serious things, so he probably just needs some space. I make a quick prayer in hope that he doesn't do anything stupid and turn back to Liam and Amber.

"You have to tell me everything." I demand and Amber grins and looks up at Liam.

So it turns out that the girl Liam had a crush on was her. Last night he decided he couldn't hold it in him anymore so he called her. They went for a walk and when he told her, she apparently was so shocked that she forgot where she was walking and she tripped and fell into the fountain. They quickly went to her home and she got changed, without telling Liam a single word. He was crazy with worry, afraid that he ruined their friendship and thought that he got rejected.

However, he didn't want to leave her just like that so he waited while she showered, changed her clothes and put on makeup. She didn't know that he was still at her house when she was in her room, she was on her phone, talking loudly to her friend how happy she was that Liam liked her back. Obviously, he heard it all.

He barged into her room, and I don't know the rest because they didn't tell me anything else, they were just both blushing. They told me that during our classes and lunch and they were all giddy and touchy, grinning all the time.

Watching them made me miss Axel, who still hasn't returned. I wondered if he was still in school and when I came to the class we were supposed to have together, I got my answer. He didn't show up, which meant he was somewhere, anywhere.

He left me here?

I quickly send him a message, asking him where he is, but like usual, I get no reply. After school, I quickly make my way to the parking lot, in hopes to see his car. However, the black pick-up truck wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Wow.

He left me here, without a single message or note. I gulp and quickly call Liam to ask him to take me home. Luckily, he and Amber are still here so they happily give me a ride.

"Where to, miss?" Liam asks.

"Axel's place." I reply, looking out the window.

"Are you sure? He just left you, Sophie. Don't you think it's better if you leave him some space for a while and go home?" Amber asks.

"Well, um, about that." I begin and look at her to see her frowning in confusion. "I kind of live there." I explain.

"What?!" Liam almost shouts. "What the hell, Soph?" Amber adds.

I sigh. "My dad found us in bed together this morning and kicked me out."

Both of their mouths open wide.

"Why didn't you say something?" Amber asks, her voice soothing. "Do you want to stay at my place?"

"Or mine." Liam adds and I quickly shake my head.

"No, it's okay. I just need a while to get it all together, and then I might move to live with my godmother." I explain. I've been thinking about it a lot, and it seems like the best option.

"Move where?" Liam asks and let out a big breath, preparing for my answer.

"To Spokane."
