Alvin stirred from the bed opening his eyes to see Colt holding a suit bag.
" Good morning Sir" he greets.
Alvin sat up with wandering eyes looking for Kate which Colt noticed.
" She went to work ."
" And my mother? Colt helped him with a towel. Serving him a glass of wine.
" She's preparing breakfast. She seems to be fine " he announced as Alvin's faced darkened startling Colt.
" What's wrong?
" Nothing" he answered entering her bathroom. He ransacked her valuables and found the pills. He sneered flipping it then handed it to Colton. " Replace it with something similar. " Colt nods taking it from him
"Is the jet ready? Colton hums then proceeded to order a replica for the pills.
" Is it safe to leave your wife with Mrs. Kang? Colt asked while typing on the computer.
" Kate can take care of herself. Mom won't hurt her. " He tells him while bathing.
Alvin traveled out of the country without informing anyone.
The CEO and her boards of trustees had to cast a vote before accepting her back.
Kate initially thought the worst has happened but then something tragic occurred.
Naomi stopped by to welcome her hereby introducing her to the brother of the CEO: Dante Lorenzo. It wouldn't have bothered Kate had he been someone else but it turned out to be her one-night stand.
She froze up but Dante acted cool stretching his hands for a handshake. She smiled faintly returning his gesture but then again he wouldn't let go of her hand.
" So you're the famous Kate Reagan" he hummed staring gently at her laugh nervously trying to break from his hold.
Naomi could tell Dante was into her. She wondered why every rich man had a liking to her at first sight.
" Yes yes. Thanks" Kate stuttered wriggling her sweaty hands out of his hold. Naomi had to stop the show of affection.
" Actually she's married. Kate isn't single' her statement had Dante breaking the handshake with his eyes unconsciously darting to her left hand. The same ring she wore the day he met her. His eyes moved to hers widened. Shocked beyond
" Yeah I guess I am" she admits nervously walking away leaving a petrified Dante.
Naomi stays behind smiling she broke the awkward situation.
" She might be married but I'm not" she stated to a disorganized man. She had to tap him before he regained himself leaving as well.
" Nothing works out for me. " She sneered taking an elevator.
Kate's mind kept playing their sex scenes. Her eyes turned red from blinking them incessantly then bumped into something. She could tell it was a person as she looked up to meet the familiar eyes. She composed herself wiping her face with a kerchief.
" I didn't take you for the scheming type but I'm disappointed in you Kate" David spoke
' your wedding right? I'm sorry I couldn't make it. My mom was sick. I needed to be there for her. Do forgive me. How did it go? She stuttered which kinda amused him as he pointed to a cafe outside
" Buy me lunch then we can talk" he offered as she smiled walking him out of the company to the cafe
" I'm really sorry Dave. Are you back from your honeymoon? She asked as he laughed.
" Don't tell me Alvin didn't tell you? Is your relationship with him that bad? He asked as she scoffed stopping at the entrance to the cafe.
" We're here. Table for two pleases" she tells the waitress who led them to a consecutive table. Dave chuckled at her way of avoiding his questions
" Having second thoughts about your choice of marrying me instead of him? I know I would have treated you better than he does. " He joked which she knew wasn't really a joke. Choosing Alvin wasn't a choice for her. David and she weren't compatible in so many ways.
"Maybe I would, Had you confessed your feelings for me perhaps you wanted a sophisticated wife like Melody and Cynthia. You were right to think so" she admits with bitterness wishing Alvin was David. Someone who knew what he wanted.
" I didn't think you would fall for him you know. Alvin and I were rivals I thought he was chasing you for fun. I would have stopped him had I known" he sighs seeming honest but she didn't believe. Having known Alvin, she had lost the will to trust any man.
" Funny cos I met him before you. Why would he be interested in a pauper like me? I'm not a fool Dave. I might not trust Alvin but that doesn't mean that I trust you too " she tells him vividly as he scoffs
" Smart but you're losing your confidence. I know what he's doing to you. All you have to do is ask for my help. For the record, I canceled the wedding. She was such a spoilt brat. Too wild for my taste or should I say Alvin had screwed her. See what I mean by he doesn't treat you well" he added smiling
" Funny cos Alvin has screwed me. I suppose you'll dispose of me whenever you like. Don't take this the wrong way but I prefer Alvin to you. Marrying him wasn't a choice for me because I rather live with the devil I know than the Angel I don't know. Turn back time and I'll pick him again" she retorts as the smirk vanished from his face completely glaring at her
" That's why he sees you as a golddigger. Like a property he bought. You sold yourself for your mother's kidneys. Alvin bought you with his sheepish grin and that's why the Reagans will never accept you. Cos you cost a fortune and will make a fortune for them. You're nothing but a bargain" he finished earning a thunderous slap from her.
" You're wrong. I'm not his property. I'm there for my mom and I'll do anything to keep her alive. Stay away from me David" she stood up sniffling
" Let me help you Kate before it's too late. Alvin doesn't love you and I know you don't love him anymore" he stated as she halts
" If that's what you're waiting for, it's not happening. I'm not a pawn In your game. You look surprised I know how people like you behave. Lunch break is over" she tells him leaving ignoring his calls increasing her pace.
She got to her office and slumped on the chair drinking some coffee then closed her eyes to think.
" You look beautiful with your eyes closed no wonder you were such a good liar" her eyes smacked opened looking for the source of the voice failing miserably. Standing from the chair she searched the office looking for him
" Who are you? She asked twirling then he tapped her
" I was by the screen. Do you look scared? He laughed as she scowled stepping away from him
' what do you want?
" Answers. A very good answer" he stated taking a step closer to her
" Why didn't you tell me you were married?
" Why should I? I wore a ring for fucks sake. This Ring" she raised her left hand to demonstrate
" I thought you were a ring lover. It didn't look like the wedding ring types. You should have said something" he explained taking another step closer to her
" Do you know I've been thinking about you for the past three months? Hoping to run into you one way or the other though You left before I woke up. You're the only thing that has been on my mind lately now you're married? How does that solve anything? He said agitatedly stranding her
Kate swallowed the lump in her throat nervously looking anywhere but him.
" I'm sorry. I guess I didn't mean to hurt you. To me, it was a one-time thing. A mistake actually. I am deeply sorry' she apologized oblivious to his mood
" There's no need to be sorry. You're an adult. kate, I can't stop thinking about you. What am I going to do? He asked running a hand through his hair helplessly as she pushed him back allowing her a space to breathe then sighed to prevent an asthmatic attack
" Nothing. I've married Dante. Believe me, my husband isn't someone you'll love to deal with. We both had a good time okay? Let's forget about it. Please" she tells him which didn't seem too well to him
" Maybe to you it was just fun but it meant something else to me. You took something from me that day Kate" he drew her closer caressing her hair
" Please Dante. I don't want to do this to him. I love my husband" she tells him as he laughed then shushed her with his thumb
" No, you don't. Why don't you divorce the mother fucker? Or do you have kids? He asked as she shook her head then disengaged from him
" I can't divorce him. It's impossible" she tells him.
" Then let me help you. Promise we'll sort things out after your divorce?
" Dante, please let this go. I'm bad news believe me. Nothing good comes out of loving me. He's ruthless and dangerous. I don't want him to hurt you. I'm not joking" she tells him but he disagreed
" We'll sue him to court then. All you have to do is find prove. I know he beats you and forces himself on you, right? He blackmails you too. I need photos or videos perhaps records. I promise to liberate you" he tells her ' if only it was that simple' she thought nodding.
She could tell he wasn't used to taking no as an answer. Alvin will kill her if he finds out she cheated on him. Heaven knows she fears for that day but knew it was inevitable.
" Good. Can I have your number? Or should I give you mine? He said happily
" Please don't call me. Don't look for me. He has eyes watching me " he didn't argue as long as she gave him her number.
" Kate" he called about to leave
" I'm going to set you free. He's never going to hurt you again I promise" she smiled. If only he knew the truth. The truth about her submission to him.
' Thanks, Dante" she appreciated. He tends to give her a peck but she stepped back waving her hands.
" You don't have to do that you know"
" Do what? She asked squinting her eyes
" Stay faithful to an unfaithful man. A barbaric man. Someone that doesn't know your worth. You shouldn't feel guilty. Your body is yours" he tells her
" That's what I thought. I don't know what to believe anymore. Thanks anyway. Let's see what tomorrow brings" she smiles as he studied her for some minutes then sighed taking his leave.
Naomi was on her way to Kate's office when she saw Dante leaving. She looked at his exiting figure and sneered taking u-turn.
