Chapter 22: Chapter 22
Olivia only turned on her phone after she'd settled into her car. As she turned on mobile network, notifications began popping in again. One was a text from Rebecca, one of her close friends and roommate in Uni.
'I've been reporting that stupid post since I saw it. I promise you we will find the person running that gossip lovers blog in this Lagos and we will finish them. Instagram has flagged it as inappropriate and has taken it down, how are you baby girl?'
Tears clouded her vision as she remembered the times Rebecca had stood up for her back in University. Of course Rebecca had also judged her when they'd first met but after living together for the first year, both girls had bonded. Rebecca had apologized for judging her and they'd been close ever since.
'I'm tired Rebecca. What do I do?' she texted back. A few minutes later another text popped into her phone. 'Stay off social media and ignore those rabid dogs for now' Rebecca texted.
'Thanks' she replied and she ignited the Lexus Rx450h she'd gotten as a birthday gift from her dad the previous year.
As she drove out of the parking lot, her phone rang, it was Tekena. She ignored his calls and texts on purpose because she was sure he was the second reason she was in the lime light today. 'Prince Charming', she gritted her teeth in irritation. The social media hate she got had only intensified when he'd announced on the internet that they were dating two years ago even after she'd told him not to.
Well she was done, they could keep their Prince Charming, she wanted nothing to do with him. A little unfair since he wasn't the one who'd posted the picture but she was sure one of his fan girls was behind it.
Gogo was watching her favorite soap when Olivia walked into her mother's private sitting room . "You're home, I thought you weren't coming home tonight, aren't you spending the weekend with your Beau?" Gogo asked.
Olivia glared at her mother. "You're concerned about me spending the night with another man when there are nude photos of me circulating the internet!" she yelled.
"The man in question is your boyfriend Olivia so what's the problem? As for those pictures, it has been handled. I will find the idiot running that blog and make another scape goat out of the idiot" Gogo said nonchalantly.
Olivia sighed and dropped her bag on the chair. "Mum, don't you get it? These people won't stop" She said exasperated.
"Of course they won't, they're jealous of you. You're beautiful, popular and successful. You're also dating a real catch. Let them talk, talking is the only thing they can do" Gogo hissed. Olivia rolled her eyes. "This is not the life I want mother, I don't want to be...." she was saying when her mother cut her off.
"Olivia this is the life you have and it's a good life. Stop being bloody ungrateful and complaining about something you can't change. You better stop whining like a baby and deal with your adversaries like a grown up" Gogo said dismissively.
Olivia glared at her mother, she loved and hated this woman with equal passion. "I wish I wasn't a Falade, I wish I wasn't your daughter maybe then my life would be so much simpler and better" Olivia murmured.
"Young woman I know you're not talking to me that way. You're the one who decided to be foolish and forget all the teachings you were taught before puberty" Gogo said harshly.
A tear escaped Olivia's eyes as she left the sitting room. She walked into her room and sat on the bed feeling empty and useless. How could she face the world after that picture and after she'd been branded a sugar baby and a home wrecker?
She was still feeling sorry for herself when Tekena barged into her room. The first thing he noticed was the phone in her hand and that infuriated him the more.
"Are you freaking kidding me Olivia?!" he yelled at her. She hissed, he didn't respect her privacy and never knocked before entering her room.
"Stop yelling, what do you want?" she said dropping her phone. Tekena glared "I have been trying to reach you since I saw that bloody post on the internet" he gritted out.
"I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone Tekena, so just go home. Leave me alone please" Olivia sighed. She didn't even look at him as she spoke, she wanted to him to leave her alone for good.
"You keep treating me like crap every time and all I do is look out for you. Every bloody time, I'm looking out for you. You're never grateful, always ungrateful and rude" Tekena scowled and left the room.
She held her breath and counted one to twenty because she knew he'd gone to speak to her mum and she was about to get scolded.
She was at ten when Gogo walked in equally annoyed. "I don't want to miss the best part of my soap so don't make this difficult for me. Tekena is trying to help you, go take a shower, get dressed, he's waiting for you downstairs" Gogo said.
"Help me with what? I don't need his help, his stupid fan girls are responsible for ruining my life" Olivia shouted.
"Tekena loves you and I don't know what else you want. He is everything you need in a man and he's always looking out for you. Stop being an ingrate Olivia. Do as I say now, you're under my roof and you will listen to me or leave this house" Gogo threatened. She and her siblings knew that Gogo's words were laws in their house. She might spoil them and give them all they need but they dared not disobey her.
She was the second out of three children, the only daughter and Gogo's favorite, meaning Gogo spoilt her the most and also disciplined her the most. The pressure to be a model child was way more on her than Ben and Chris who were boys.
"Pack a weekend bag" Gogo said as she left the room. Olivia groaned after her mother had left her room. Damn this Prince Charming, there was nothing Charming about him. He never failed to use her mother as a weapon every time she disagreed with him. She hated that and that was the second thing that strengthened her resolve to leave him.
