Chapter 36: Chapter 36

MADISON POV

Oh, so Zach has a fiancée and I never knew??

I blinked rapidly at her and sighed, “Will you keep standing here? I need to see my fiancée; don’t you know he is waiting for me??” she yelled. Zach has been chasing me the whole time but he has a whole fiancée on the other side. How pathetic.

“What’s your name?” I ask with no facial expression.

“Melissa” she chirps up and I nod.

“Follow me.” I instruct and hear her stupid heels clicking behind me on the marble tile. Who is going to tell her we are in the hospital and not a runway or a hotel.

I walked back to Zach’s ward and flung the door open. “You’ve got visitors!” I yell out to Zach and his head peaks up but flops right back when he sees Melissa.

He turned back to me, “Madison I__” before he coughs up his excuse I walk away, it is not his excuses will change anything. He is not mine, why am I even angry?

I have been so stupid thinking I love a man and he loves me too not knowing I have been deceived all this while. He is engaged and I never knew, I never bothered asking too.

Oh Madison, you’ve f*cked up big time.

My phone made a buzz sound; a text from Zach.

: - she wants me, I don’t want her. Madison don’t go anywhere we need to talk. I really don’t want you to misunderstand a thing. I want nothing to do with her but only you Madison, end of story. Please go nowhere.

I don’t bother replying his text, he doesn’t owe me anything not even an explanation. Everything is fine, yes everything is, and everything will be fine.

I made my way back to my office with my hair bouncing on my shoulder. I really don’t want to think of anything, not a thing at all.

As soon as I got into my office, I slammed the door behind me shut, furious at what I just saw and heard. I am trying not to get mad but I really can’t help it. All this time, I have been blissfully unaware that the man I have finally fallen in love with, this mafia boss that had swept me off my feet, has a f*cking fiancée.

“How could he do this to me?” I fumed, gripping the armrest of my chair until my knuckles turned white. “how could I have been so blind?” I scoffed with a low laugh.

I can tell I am about to break down soon into tears. I paced back and forth gripping my chest as I muttered words to myself in frustration.

“I thought he loved me, I thought we had something!!!!!!!” I yelled and sniffed in hardly, “Oh Madison, Kingsley is right. Love is not some kind of fairy tale” I laughed out and wiped my cheeks.

As I moved to pick up a stack file, my phone rang. I hesitated for a moment but eventually picked the call without checking the caller ID.

“Madison speaking.” I said curtly.

“Madison, it’s me Krystal,” came the hesitant voice on the other end of the line. “I heard what happened, I mean, Adrian just told me what happened, where are you? Are you okay? Even though I know you are not.” Krystal said.

“I appreciate your concern, Krystal” I said, my voice softening. “But I am fine. I will get through this like. I always do.”

Krystal let out a sigh. “I know you are strong Madison. But sometimes even the strongest of us need a little bit of help.”

I felt a tear escape from my eyes. It was rare for me to show any emotions, but this was too much for me to bare alone. I think I have fallen hard for Zach and this would be the first time I would ever feel this way towards a man. Now, I am left with the feelings of betrayal and hurt.

“Can I come over? If you are done with your patients” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

“Of course, you can, right now too. I am done for now.” Krystal said

“I’ll be waiting for you.”

I hung up and collapsed into my chair, letting my emotions wash over me. It is time to face my feelings and come to terms with the fallout of Zach’s deception.

Zach POV

I have been sitting in the hospital ward, staring blankly at the wall in front of me when I heard commotion at the door. Turning around, I saw Melissa, my crazy one-night stand that had quickly become a nightmare.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I spat, my anger directed at both Melissa and the woman who had brought her here in the first place- Madison.

But in no time Madison left.

Melissa strutted towards me, a sultry smile on her face. “I’m here for my fiancée Zach,” she said, gesturing towards me. “I heard you had been hurt, and I just couldn’t stay away.”

I was furious. How could she be so delusional as to think that we were engaged? I had only slept with her once and had been trying to avoid her ever since. Now, her insanity had cost me the only woman I had ever loved.

“You have to leave Melissa.” he said, his voiced laced with anger. “You’ve caused enough trouble as it is.”

Melissa pouted. “But Zach, I love you,” she said, sliding up to him. “We’re meant to be together.”

I pushed her away roughly. “No, we’re not,” I gritted out. “I have someone else in my life, someone I love more than anything else in the world.”

Melissa’s eyes widened with shock. “Who is she?” she demanded, her voice shaking.

I clenched my fists. “It doesn’t matter,” I said. “The point is that you need to leave and never come back.”

Melissa’s face contorted with anger, and she began to yell, throwing things about the room. I glared at her, my temper boiling over. “Get out!” I bellowed. “Get out and never come back!”

Melissa finally let out a high-pitched scream and bolted out of the room, crying as she went. I collapsed onto the bed, my chest heaving. In this moment, I know I had lost the only woman I had ever loved.

Madison would never want to hear from me again.
