Chapter 27: Chapter 27
After I saw the flower on my table, I couldn't feel safe even in my room and so I hurriedly went to the bathroom to take a bath. Once I finished taking a bath and fixed myself. I rushed outside my room and it only took me a few minutes to do that. I was scared to be all by myself inside my room.
"Maive."
I jumped out of surprise when I heard Tobias calling me the moment I was out of the girl's dormitory. He was in front of the girl's dormitory but I did not notice him at all. It was because my thoughts were pulling me out of reality again.
I sighed in relief when I realized that it was only Tobias.
"You look pale. Are you that scared of me?" Tobias started and I could see through his eyes the pain he was hiding.
I shook my head, "No, not that. Let's go."
I continued walking away from the dormitory and Tobias was walking by my side. He looked confused but I couldn't tell him.
However, I was silently thankful that he was here with me, after that incident in my own room I was partly scared of being alone. But I couldn't say to him that I am grateful, I still haven't forgotten the things he did to me.
"Did you go into my room yesterday?" I asked him while we were walking, hoping that he would answer yes and so I would feel at ease.
From my peripheral vision, I saw him crossing his brows. He seems to not know about it.
"We can't step inside the dormitory." He answered plainly as he thought deeply.
Suddenly, he went in front of me and placed his hand on my shoulders, gripping it as he stared intensely at me. "Did something happen?"
His eyes were full of worry with an evident anger.
I shoved his hands away from me, "No. I just thought that someone knocked at my door. It must have been a dream of mine," I answered, not telling him the experience I had last night.
He will get worried and that would make another reason for him to convince me to go back to our village.
After pondering yesterday, I have decided to stay at this place. Maybe, in that way, I will be able to know more about my father... or myself. I have always never been a part of anything; I always felt like I do not belong... This might be a place for me.
And I have to find myself in this place.
"Are you..." Tobias paused a bit. "going to attend classes?" He sounded concerned about me.
I just nodded at him.
"I thought you would want to transfer," he added.
"I am still mad at you, Tobias. Stop acting like nothing happened." I firmly stated.
He looked sad upon hearing those words which made me feel a little guilty.
"Do you want me to show you my werewolf form?" He suggested, trying to light up my mood.
He even sounded so careful with the words that he said about him being a werewolf. He was weighing me and I could clearly feel that he was scared of my reaction.
"In other days, maybe," I answered.
He looked a little hurt at that but he nodded regardless. "I am really sorry, Maive."
"How could you let me apply to this university when you are aware that I am not a werewolf?" I asked. He looked unfavor of me studying here before but he never really said that I shouldn't be here because I don't belong here.
He smiled sadly. "I couldn't get in the way of your Aunt and Uncle, Maive. I tried talking to them about it but they were sure to send you here."
That made me think deeply again. "They think I am one of you? Or do they know that my father once belonged here?"
He shook his head.
"Everyone could feel that you are one of us... and no, no one ever knew about your family." He sounded sincere and I knew that he was not lying, I could feel it.
"Why does everyone keep on saying that I am a werewolf too?!" My voice raised out of frustration. I couldn't believe that my friend, who had known me since my childhood, is also saying that I am like them.
"We could feel it." He simply said.
I shook my head, refusing to believe that. How could you feel someone's identity? That's a foolish reason to convince me. "You knew my father was a werewolf too. Otherwise, you could have asked about my family. You never did that."
He stared completely serious at me and said, "How could we ask you about your family when the pain in your eyes goes unbearable every time you mention your father?"
I turned silent after hearing his words, I was not aware that they could see those pain.
"How could we ask when you still have nightmares about your past every time you fall asleep? It was difficult to see you being broken, Maive... and that we couldn't do anything about it." His voice trembled a bit and sadness radiated out of him.
I feel really guilty.
Third person POV
"How's it going?" The man who they refer to as the Lord asked his subordinates.
There was an attempt of invasion from vampires in the South territory last night. It was sudden that they didn't expect it. However, the guards from those borders were ready at all times and for that matter, the attack did not last that long and was not able to reach the other parts of the territory.
"Everything is calm now, My Lord. There were no suspicious movements in the south," His Beta answered.
He nodded, expecting that answer from his Beta.
The Lord as they called him was the head of strategic planning for security and defense of the territory. It was his own strategy that their territory remained safe and peaceful despite the attacks from other packs and vampires. He was an expert at strategic planning as he was already doing it even when he was a kid.
As he played the ring in his fingers, he was in deep thought on how to scare those vampires who had dared to invade and attack their territory.
"How many were injured?" The Lord asks. He was referring to the guards on the Southern border.
"About a dozen, my Lord. They are being treated in the infirmary right now."
"That's quite a number... Are they slacking on their training?" His jaw clenched, not pleased with the report he heard.
The Beta who was delivering the news gulped, sensing that his Lord is not pleased in any way. It was actually the opposite. He turned nervous, knowing how ruthless his Lord was when angry but he is quite used to his actions though.
"The number of injured is actually low... compared to the number of vampires who had attacked. The territory's defense is indeed strong, my Lord." He said, trying to stay composed.
It was a fact, the vampires that had attacked last night outnumbered the guards in the border. But with the training and all that the guards had gone through, the attack was hampered already at the border.
His Lord slammed the table. He is now even furious. "I did not ask about the enemies! I was talking about the strength of our army!"
He was really furious. He never cared about the number of enemies, all that he cares about is how excellent the guards had defended. He has always been this perfectionist. Even a victory seems like a defeat when the results don't reach his expectations. After all, he believed that the lives of his subordinates greatly depended on him.
The Beta immediately kneeled, accepting his defeat. "I apologize, My Lord. I hadn't been thinking straight. I deserved to be punished."
He clenched his jaw, "Employ more guards and increase the training more vigorously. I don't want to hear such weakness again."
"Yes, My Lord."
