Chapter 205: Chapter 205
Qin Xi frowned as he looked at the person who wasn’t covered with anything, woke her up to remind her to lock the door, and again instructed her to cover her stomach before leaving. He didn’t say anything about Li Xianglu’s overly dry hair, as if he had already gotten used to it.
The next morning, Li Xianglu was woken up by a sudden stomach pain. A sharp pain in her lower abdomen—it was over, she thought of her menstruation starting last night and hurriedly got up and rushed into the bathroom.
The first thing she saw were bloodstains on both sides of her sleeping pants. Okay, stained. Li Xianglu wiped it clean with a wet wipe, changed her underwear and pants, and used toilet paper as a temporary pad. At that moment, someone knocked on the door, and Li Xianglu, in a frantic state, went to open it. Seeing Qin Xi, she began to cry: "Qin Xi, I’m so unlucky!"
Qin Xi saw her coming and quickly embraced her and walked inside, somewhat puzzled, "How are you unlucky?"
Li Xianglu said pitifully, "My relative has arrived."
Qin Xi blinked, realizing it was that time of the month for women, and asked with a frown, "Why did it come early?"
This time it was Li Xianglu who was stunned, then angrily thumped Qin Xi’s shoulder before saying, "How do you know when my period is!"
Qin Xi said helplessly, "You are almost always at the beginning of the month, this time might be because of the long journey and fatigue, maybe you should rest today and not go."
Li Xianglu shook her head, "I should still go and check on things, these two days are critical. Once things are settled, we will stop worrying about it."
Qin Xi nodded, agreeing.
But Li Xianglu hesitated, "I’m out of supplies."
Qin Xi didn’t hear clearly, "Out of what?"
Li Xianglu pouted, "Menstrual pads, I didn’t bring any."
Qin Xi suddenly realized, "So, what are you using now?"
Li Xianglu pouted embarrassedly and leaned her head on Qin Xi’s shoulder, whispering, "Toilet paper."
Qin Xi chuckled and patted her head, "Shall I go buy some for you? What kind do you want?"
Li Xianglu blushed, wanting to go buy them herself, but the thought of leaking in the morning made her worry about the pad falling out while walking, and the embarrassment of being laughed at if a sanitary napkin fell to the ground made her nod vigorously, "Okay, you go buy them. We don’t have a monthly ticket, so just buy the more expensive ones that don’t need one."
Qin Xi nodded, kissed her forehead, "Alright, then you wait here, I’ll go buy them and bring back breakfast, and after we eat, we’ll go to the hospital."
Li Xianglu nodded in agreement.
After Qin Xi left, Li Xianglu laid back down to continue sleeping. She was a miraculous person, never suffering from insomnia. In a daze, she heard knocking, jumped up and hurried to the door.
Qin Xi was holding a red bag and two lunch boxes. Li Xianglu quickly took the lunch boxes from him, Qin Xi glanced at the bed and knew she had fallen asleep again.
He handed her the items, "Hurry and go change." Then Qin Xi took out a pink cord with strings on both ends and handed it over to her.
Seeing this, Li Xianglu’s face flushed red, and she spoke with embarrassment and annoyance, "Qin Xi!"
Qin Xi smiled without saying a word, opened both lunch boxes, took out two spoons from the backpack, wiped them clean, and placed them in the other lunch box. He then took a pack of brown sugar out of the bag and placed it on the table.
Li Xianglu finished cleaning up before pouting and coming out from the bathroom. She felt a little embarrassed when she first saw the brown sugar, but her mood improved when she saw the wontons. She hurried to eat, as wontons should be eaten quickly; if they soak too long, they lose their fragrance.
After the meal, both of them went to the hospital together. Li Xianglu went to the ward first, while Qin Xi went to get food.
At that time, doctors were making their rounds in the ward and discussing Li Erfu’s condition. Li Xianglu approached and listened for a while. The recovery was going well, just needed to be careful to avoid a high fever again. It had been a timely visit to the hospital; otherwise, there was a real risk of amputation.
After the doctor left, both were terrified at the close call. When they saw Li Xianglu entering, they didn’t even know what to say.
Li Xianglu asked about the situation from last night. The pain had been intense, and the doctor had provided some painkillers, but advised not to take too many. A fever had flared up in the middle of the night and only subsided in the morning.
Seeing Chunhua’s dark circles, Li Xianglu knew she hadn’t slept all night, and quickly told her to rest after eating.
Meanwhile, Qin Xi brought up some porridge and buns.
Li Erfu had indeed suffered a lot of pain the previous day; today his face was pale, showing little appetite. But as the food would spoil otherwise, he endured the pain and started eating.
Li Xianglu urged Chunhua to eat more, saying that she needed strength to care for the sick. But Chunhua was concerned about when they would return home.
Li Xianglu pondered for a moment before saying, "Expect three or four days. Once his condition stabilizes, he can be transferred to the hospital in our county. I think it’s best you stay here until he’s better. Otherwise, running back and forth might be detrimental to his recovery."
Chunhua was worried about the child at home and took a while before saying, "Hehua is all alone at home. I’m concerned."
Li Xianglu expressed understanding and nodded, "We’ll head back to the county in three days to pick up a few things and can bring the child along then."
Chunhua thought about it and again felt reluctant, as it would mean more burden for the hosts with two people eating and drinking in the provincial capital.
Li Xianglu decided, "Bringing him here would be ideal, as they can share a hospital bed. Don’t worry about the cost of the meals, as the child can also run errands. We might need to head back by then anyway."
Upon hearing this, Chunhua nodded and said, "Then that would be kind of you."
In the following three days, Li Erfu recovered very well, and with about seven or eight more days of anti-inflammatory treatment, he would be ready to go home and rest.
Dr. Li thought that staying seven or eight more days would be better spent at the county hospital. Li Xianglu, seeing that Li Erfu truly was recovering well over the past few days, agreed, and on the fourth day, the hospital’s car arrived once again, called by Li Xianglu after speaking with Grandpa Lan the day before.
The bill for the discharge was 130 yuan and some change. Chunhua had already tried to give Li Xianglu money during her stay, but Li Xianglu had not accepted it, saying Li Jianqing had already given enough.
By 2 o’clock in the afternoon, they arrived at the county hospital. After settling in, Qin Xi went to the guesthouse to extend their stay and also bought some food to take to the hospital.
Approaching the ward, they heard crying and saw a crowd of people gathered outside the room.
Qin Xi made her way through the crowd and saw Li Xianglu staring angrily at a person kneeling on the floor, while Chunhua was trying to get the kneeling person to leave.
That person was Ge Sanmei. Why had she come?
All they could hear was Ge Sanmei sobbing breathlessly, "Xiangxiang, please forgive Mom. I was blinded back then, it’s all my fault. All my children, and I couldn’t think straight. Please forgive me, I’ll never let you down again. Please, I’m begging you." Ge Sanmei was kneeling on the ground, tears and snot covering her face.
