Chapter 96: Chapter 96
Entering the hall, handsome men and beautiful women hurriedly made their way inside. Passing through a corridor, the two arrived at the hotel garden, which was the venue for tonight's banquet. The guests were already gathering. Various social elites were gathered, exchanging polite conversations.
Flora, in a state of nervous tension, had her hands wrapped around Kevin's arm, and his suit had already been creased by her grip. If the quality was any worse, it would probably have been torn off by her.
A woman and a beautiful young girl walked towards Kevin and Flora and stopped in front of them. The woman smiled as she looked Kevin up and down, then reached out her hand towards him, "Welcome, Kevin. I heard that you've been reluctant to come, and Mrs. Davis must have put in a lot of effort to convince you, right?"
"Not necessarily." Kevin laughed lightly, shaking hands with the woman. "Mrs. Black, nice to meet you."
Mrs. Black was none other than the founder of the Alma Hotel and also the organizer of this evening's banquet.
After a brief exchange, Mrs. Black, who completely disregarded Flora, suddenly turned to the beautiful girl next to her, "Betsy, why don't you keep Kevin company? Don't let him get bored and run away."
"Kevin, come sit over here." Betsy Black was quite friendly and smiled as she spoke to Kevin. Then, she took his arm and led him towards the direction of the swimming pool. As she complained, "Kevin, why didn't you respond when I called you earlier? Is it because if you don't see me for a month, you forget about me?"
"Oh? You saw me just now?" Kevin chuckled, causing Flora, who was following behind them, to freeze in place. Maxwell! Betsy must have seen Maxwell, right!?
"Yes. Who was that beautiful woman just now? She's stunning!" Betsy asked sarcastically, taking a glance at Flora, who was wearing big-framed glasses, to confirm once again that she wasn't the beautiful woman she had just seen.
"My dear, do you think she's prettier than you?" Kevin looked at Betsy, whose jealousy was evident, and became interested in the woman she mentioned. Maxwell's woman? Then what was Flora to Maxwell?
Looking back, Kevin extended his long arm and pulled Flora into his embrace, smiling as he said, "Miss Flora, be careful not to get lost, so I don't have to go looking for you everywhere."
"I got it. You keep Miss Betsy company, and I won't wander around," Flora replied, finding a more secluded spot to sit down. She realized that this spot was good, as she could survey the whole scene and make it less likely for others to notice her.
Betsy glanced at Flora and turned to Kevin curiously, "Who is she? Why does she look so lost?" She had managed to snatch Kevin to her side, but there was no reaction from Flora.
In fact, she almost wanted her to be by Kevin's side all the time. If it were any other woman, her partner would have been taken away long ago and she would have been furious. What a strange woman!
"She's my assistant," Kevin answered casually, taking a sip of red wine from the glass on the table. His gaze wandered deliberately through the crowd.
"Just an assistant?" Betsy pressed further, "What about the beautiful woman just now? Is she your woman?"
Kevin was getting annoyed by her relentless questions. It had been over a month, yet this woman still liked to pry into his privacy. It was as if she was his fiancée! This kind of woman always irritated him!
Kevin picked up a glass of juice, stood up, and walked towards Flora. He still found it somewhat comforting to interact with this silly girl. He handed the juice to Flora and said, "If you're tired, take a break and have a drink."
He wanted to tell her that she didn't need to search anymore, and she didn't need to try to avoid anything. At this very moment, Maxwell was standing on the terrace on the second floor, holding a glass of wine and embracing the beautiful woman. The beauty Betsy had mentioned was indeed beautiful, no wonder even the usually confident Miss Betsy was willing to admit that she was more beautiful than herself!
Flora didn't hear what he was saying at all. Her face grew increasingly pale, and her wide eyes filled with growing terror as she stared fixedly at a certain spot!
Kevin followed her gaze and searched through the crowd for the source of her astonishment. Among the crowd, he spotted a handsome and refined man. Was it because of him that she was so shocked? Sure enough, this young girl, with her restless soul, was always easily captivated!
Kevin looked at her and couldn't help but feel a bit jealous, "Men like him can be found anywhere, is it really necessary?" he said. He was just good-looking, Kevin could be narcissistic enough to believe that he was much more handsome than him. Yet she never once looked at him with that same eyes of discovering a new world!
Flora stared blankly at the man she loved the most, the man she missed the most, the only man who had been good to her in her life. She was too shocked to make any sound, her heart calling out over and over again: Henry.
Henry White! It was him, after two months of not seeing him, she thought she would never see him again in her life. But here he was. Flora clenched her fists tightly, trembling like an autumn leaf!
She couldn't meet him, couldn't recognize him! Because she couldn't guarantee whether Maxwell was watching her every move at this moment. Maxwell had once said that if she dared to return to Henry's side, he would make sure Henry suffered a miserable death!
If Henry discovered her presence, he would do everything in his power to take her back to the White Family! She didn't want that, she didn't want anything bad to happen to him!
Unconsciously stepping back, about to turn around and escape, Henry seemed to sense her calling. His gaze, which had been on someone else's face, turned gently and fell accurately on Flora.
