Chapter 80: Chapter 80
"You seem eager to stay by his side," Maxwell raised an eyebrow.
To provoke him, Flora gritted her teeth and said, "Yes, staying by his side is a thousand times better than staying by yours!"
"Really?" Maxwell lifted her from the floor, staring at her intensively. "Alright then, I'll let you continue to stay by his side, continue to be his assistant!"
"Really?" Flora stared at him in disbelief, his furious expression sending shivers down her spine. His sudden change of heart and this expression didn't seem like he had any intention of letting her go. Whatever he was planning, it was still better than staying at the Smith Family mansion. Let him have it!
"Of course it's true!" Maxwell sneered, his mind quietly calculating something. Kevin! What was he up to? He couldn't wait to find out!
While Flora was still in doubt, the sound of a key unlocking the door suddenly came from the entrance, and a group of ladies who had just left rushed in. They surrounded Maxwell, pushing Flora to a corner, and giving her the chance to slip towards the door.
"Flora, don't go yet!" Maxwell tried to catch up as he took a step forward. But his arm was grabbed by the ladies, who chattered, "Sir, don't go out yet, those people are still in the hotel!"
Listening to his shout, Flora not only didn't stop, but quickened her pace towards the elevator. Secretly grateful to the ladies, she couldn't be sure whether Maxwell was being genuine or not when he said he would let her go. So slipping away was the best option for her!
Maxwell couldn't shake off these 'well-meaning' girls for a while. He glared at Flora, watching her figure grow farther away, a mocking smile appearing on his face. Fine, she was so eager to escape him! Let her go, then!
He originally wanted to kindly remind her, that as the situation was getting tense, it wasn't wise to show herself casually in the hotel. However, seeing how desperate she was to avoid him, he decided to teach her a lesson!
Flora rushed into the elevator, feeling triumphant as the doors slowly closed. It was great, she had once again escaped from Maxwell's clutches!
The elevator went down smoothly, and with a 'ding,' the doors opened. Flora walked out briskly, planning to head towards the main entrance. But suddenly, two plainclothes police officers rushed over and pushed her to the ground, sternly ordering, "Don't move!"
"What... what are you doing?" Flora was startled, glaring at these two inexplicable men. Were they crazy? They immediately pressed her to the ground upon arrival!
"We are police officers, please follow us to the police station!" The two people in front of her showed their identification, grabbed her from the ground, and led her to the hotel entrance like they were escorting a criminal.
"Hey, why are you arresting me?! You've got the wrong person!" Flora shouted, struggling. Damn... it's true what they say, police and bandits are the same! They not only have no sympathy, but they also nearly broke her arm while arresting her!
Most importantly, who did she offend to encounter such a gang leader? Flora yelled as she was pushed into the car. It was only after the car started moving that she suddenly realized she must have gotten into trouble by meddling in other people's business earlier!
Oh my god, she almost lost her life just now, and she thought she was safe and sound, but it turns out that there's more trouble ahead! They couldn't catch any of the main characters, but they had to capture her, an audience member!
"What are you going to do...?" Flora stared at the two police officers, trembling as she asked. Is she going to be okay?
The two police officers didn't answer her. The car quickly arrived at the police station, and Flora was escorted inside and forced to sit on a chair. One police officer began questioning her about the recent events at the hotel.
"Who was the person you were running with in the hotel just now?" the police comrade asked repeatedly, playing the hotel surveillance video and glancing at her.
Flora was stunned, it was indeed because of that incident! Instinctively, she shook her head, "I don't know." Wait, why did she lie and say she didn't know? She should have told the police that it was Maxwell Smith, so that guy could eat a few years of jail food and it would be a good revenge for herself!
Did her heart start to waver just because he protected her from the gunshots and was willing to let her go? No..., she betrayed herself when she decided to go back and stop him from going to room 3003! There's no reason, she just chose to do so!
"Are you sure you don't know?" the police officer asked suspiciously. Due to an 'accidental' glitch, the surveillance video didn't capture anything useful.
"I was just a coerced server who was forced to lead him. I don't know anything," Flora explained anxiously, looking innocent.
"Was it you who helped him escape?" the police officer raised an eyebrow, staring at her with sharp eyes.
Flora stumbled, stuttering, "Um... am I guilty? I'm sorry, I'm innocent. He caught me and threatened me to lead him to a safe exit, that's why..."
"What's your name?" Suddenly, a deep male voice sounded from beside her.
Flora turned her head and saw a handsome face with distinct edges and a slightly ominous aura. Surprised, she didn't expect to find such a handsome man hiding among the bandits.
"Officer Frank is asking you a question!" the officer who asked earlier reminded impatiently.
Flora snapped out of her daze and almost blurted out her real name, but at the last moment she changed her words, "My name is Irma Brown."
