Chapter 25: Chapter 25
Maxwell gazed at the young girl in his arms, her left cheek swollen and crying like a small kitten. The sound of Flora's desperate and hopeless cries echoed through his mind as she fell asleep. There was a strange feeling in his heart, whether it was sympathy or empathy, he couldn't say. He believed that both were impossible, as he never sympathized or empathized with anyone, especially not his enemy!
Nevertheless, he carried her horizontally and walked upstairs, placing her on the cold bed in the bedroom. He stared at her pained sleeping face, the swollen left cheek, and the faint traces of kisses on her neck. Every mark was a manifestation of pain!
Maxwell stared at her for a long time before turning to leave. After taking a few steps, he hesitated and turned back. He pulled the nearby blanket and covered her before finally walking away.
Even Maxwell personally went to the engine room to raise the temperature. When he returned to the bedroom, he couldn't believe his own actions. Since when did he start feeling sympathy for this despicable woman?
In a dilapidated small shack, Henry White was chained to the windowsill. He had been deprived of his freedom for many days and had lost his former vitality. Even his sharp eyes had lost their edge.
The wooden door was pushed open, and a man dressed in a mid-length black coat and sunglasses appeared before him. Henry had only seen this elegant yet ice-cold man once before, and just like the last time, he couldn't make out his face.
Although he was imprisoned, Henry was not afraid. This premeditated kidnapping reminded him of Flora's disappearance. He was even certain that Flora had been taken by these people!
Henry glanced at the man, just one glance, before shifting his gaze away.
Maxwell admired Henry's courage and bravery, but it didn't lessen his hatred for him. Lifting his long and powerful leg, Maxwell took two steps forward, hovering over Henry's bruised and swollen face as he sneered, "Mr. White, I wonder if you are accustomed to living here?"
Henry's eyes narrowed as he stared at this man he had never seen before, his voice cold and harsh, "What have you done to Flora? Where is Flora?"
"Don't worry, she's doing well. I've almost trained her to become a qualified prostitute," Maxwell's lips curled up slightly, giving him an evil smile.
As soon as Henry heard that Flora had been forced to become a prostitute, he became restless. The iron chains that bound his hands rattled as he glared at Maxwell angrily and shouted, "I want you to release her! She's still a college student! How could you treat her like this?!"
"Don't you know that these days, girls pretending to be college students are more valuable?"
Henry was so angry that he stomped his foot, but Maxwell remained calm and collected, thoroughly enjoying the expressions on his face as if he were watching a good show.
"You—" Henry's eyes were bloodshot as he clenched his fists tightly. If he were free right now, he would fight back and give him a good beating!
"Why do you treat her like this?! She's innocent!" Anger turned into despair, and Henry knew he was a failure in front of him. Trying to force his way wouldn't yield any benefits. He wasn't afraid of being locked up for ten years, but he was afraid of Flora being locked up for another day! So he suppressed the urge to curse him and called out in despair.
"The downfall of the Smith Family Group was my act, and the annulment was my mother's doing. From beginning to end, Flora has never done anything to harm the Smith Family. Don't you think you are being too cruel to treat her like this?" He finally realized the extent of what he had done to Flora and realized that it was truly unwarranted!
"Mr. White, indeed you are clever to guess why you have fallen into this situation." Maxwell mocked him. "But as far as I know, Miss White loves you and wants to marry you. Haven't you been trying to annul the marriage all these years?"
"Joshua Smith is not even worthy of Flora!" Henry said coldly.
Besides the collapse of the Smith Family Group, he couldn't think of anyone else he had offended. So, he immediately thought that this kidnapping case must be related to the Smith Family Group. But he didn't know who this man in front of him was. Could he be a hired killer sent by Joshua Smith?
"That's right, Miss White is more suitable for those physical men!" Maxwell gritted his teeth and, with a wave of his hand behind him, coldly commanded, "Come here. Miss White is always thinking about seeing Mr. White. Record an exciting video to give to Miss White."
After speaking, Maxwell adjusted his sunglasses and closed the distance between them, "With the downfall of the Smith Family and the deaths of its members, I will slowly settle the score with you. In this lifetime, you will never be able to repay it!"
Old Mr. Smith's death, and Joshua's injuries, how could he ever repay them? What can he use to make amends?
Turning around, Maxwell walked out of the small room, standing in the bright sunshine, listening to Henry's agonizing screams. The smile that had been lingering on his lips deepened by a degree as he climbed into his car and drove away.
When Flora woke up in bed, her first sensation was that the temperature was unusually moderate. Every morning she would wake up from the cold, except for today!
She wondered who could have made this exception for her. Besides Maxwell, who else had the authority to control the temperature here? Could it be that mischievous Robin again? She would never believe it could be that evil man, Maxwell!
There was no time for her to ponder over this question. Flora threw open the covers and saw that she was still wearing the maid uniform. She had fainted last night, and she had no idea who had brought her back to the room.
