Chapter 142: Chapter 142

After finishing the meal, Maxwell took Robin upstairs.

Watching their departing figures, Mrs. Smith snorted angrily and muttered under her breath, "That damn Flora! She really infuriates me!"

Chiyoko looked at Mrs. Smith with a face full of grievance and hesitantly said, "Aunt, my Uncle called me again this morning, asking when we are getting married. He said he wants to come in person to congratulate us."

Mrs. Smith tensed, staring at her in astonishment. With a worried and helpless expression, she spoke softly, "Chiyoko, have a good talk with your uncle. Wait a bit longer. As for Maxwell... you know, he hasn't forgiven you yet. Give him some time, okay?"

Whenever Itou Tokugawa was mentioned, Mrs. Smith felt a bit uneasy, afraid that upsetting him might lead to actions detrimental to her family. After all, the Yota Gang was an exceptionally powerful organization, and everyone feared them!

"But what about Flora? What about her child?" Chiyoko asked, feeling helpless. Although Mrs. Smith had been reassuring her that Maxwell would eventually change his mind, she had spent so much time trying to please him and still hadn't received a smile or a glimmer of hope. She was losing confidence!

Moreover, now there was not only Flora but also a child. If her child truly was Maxwell's, what should she do? The position of Maxwell's wife would undoubtedly belong to Flora!

"Don't worry; I won't let Flora marry Maxwell." Mrs. Smith said. Even if she had to risk her life, she wouldn't let Maxwell provoke the people from the Yota Gang, let alone marry the daughter of their enemy. Regardless of whether the child was his biological child, Flora couldn't stay!

"But Maxwell is taking the child as his now; he even dares to defy your words," Chiyoko murmured, appearing gentle on the surface but sneering inside. Mrs. Smith always said she would help her and that Maxwell would change his mind, but she couldn't see any assistance from her. She lacked authority, and Maxwell didn't take her words to heart!

"Maxwell is temporarily insane because of that woman. He will return to normal one day. Chiyoko, you need to be patient, happiness relies on yourself. Don't give up easily." Mrs. Smith urged with a sense of urgency.

Chiyoko looked at her, nodded obediently, and fell silent, her heart in turmoil and pain. Was it worth it to wait for a future she couldn't see, to invest in a future that seemed uncertain?

Late at night, Flora was restless in Maxwell's bedroom, unsure of what to do. Should she continue staying in this room? As far as she knew, all the bedrooms on the second floor were already occupied, and Maxwell hadn't assigned a room for her.

Even if one were arranged, it would have to be on the third floor. The thought of the third floor sent shivers down Flora's spine.

However, did she want to keep occupying Maxwell's bedroom like this? Where would he sleep? Would he share the bed with her? Thinking about it, Flora decided that the third floor was acceptable for her. With the trump card she now held, Maxwell probably wouldn't do anything to her!

Having figured things out, Flora sat up on the sofa, walked to the door, and, when opening it, was startled by the sudden appearance of Maxwell. Why was he outside? Seeing his hand half-raised, she knew he was about to open the door.

Maxwell, observing her visibly improved state, felt reassured. However, he maintained a stoic expression and asked, "It's so late, where are you going?" Wasn't she supposed to stay close to the bedroom?

"Finding a place to sleep," Flora truthfully replied.

Maxwell didn't move aside, leaving her standing at the doorway.

Maxwell raised an eyebrow, glanced at the spacious two-meter-wide bed, and said indifferently, "What? Isn't this bed enough for you?"

"I'm sleeping here; where are you going to sleep?" Flora stared at him and asked. She didn't want to share a bed with him, especially now with the child matter at hand. Even if Chiyoko treated her poorly, she still felt guilty. Having someone snatch away your love must feel terrible. She understood, having experienced the pain of losing love herself. Henry! Thinking of her stepbrother, whom she had admired for many years, made her heartache.

So, she sympathized with Chiyoko and felt sorry for her. As for her own future, she didn't know how things would unfold. After the child was born, she had no idea how Maxwell would handle the situation.

Would he kick her out, preventing her from being with her child? She wouldn't leave the child, but would Maxwell agree to let her take her child away? It was all so confusing and frustrating! Flora shook her head, forcing herself not to think about the inevitable events that would come.

"I'll, of course, sleep in my room," Maxwell sneered, closed the door as he entered, and glanced at her mockingly, "You already have a child; is there a need to act innocent here? Who are you pretending for?"

Flora suddenly turned around, glared at him, and said angrily, "Do you think I wanted this? If it weren't for you causing trouble at the hospital that day, I would have gotten rid of him long ago. Do I need to go through all this trouble?"

If it weren't for him, the child would probably have been terminated long ago. It was only later, after she started developing feelings for this unborn child, that she reached the point of vowing to protect him.

Maxwell didn't understand what she was saying, raised an eyebrow at her, and looked at her, thinking about the hospital. Yes, he did see her at the hospital once. At that time, was she there for an abortion? And wasn't he the one who coincidentally messed it up? It was less than a month since she had escaped, and Kevin had returned home only half a month ago!

Suddenly feeling relieved, he became even more convinced that the child was his. However, his brow furrowed, and he glared at her, gritting his teeth, "Did you dare to get rid of my child?"

Flora sneered, stared at him mockingly, and said, "It's funny. Last night, didn't you almost kill him yourself? He's just a pitiful creature that nobody welcomes!"
