Chapter 141: Chapter 141
Maxwell reached out and held her waist, lifting her from the lounge chair, staring at her expressionlessly, "Why not go inside and sleep?"
Was this statement a form of concern for her? Flora couldn't understand because his expression revealed nothing.
So, Flora didn't know how to answer him. Lowering her eyes, she looked around, realizing he still hadn't let her go. It seemed like he was waiting for her response. She casually said, "I... accidentally fell asleep."
"The sea breeze here is strong. Don't you know it's not good for the baby if you get sick?" Maxwell reproached disapprovingly.
Flora was startled, looking up at him in surprise. He... was concerned about her baby now? Wasn't he the one who ruthlessly wanted to kill him last night? He changed faster than a chameleon!
A smirk appeared on her lips, and she flashed him a mocking smile, coldly taunting, "Are you caring about him? This doesn't seem like a behavior you would exhibit, right?"
Maxwell's hand, still around her waist, slid down to her flat stomach, gently caressing it as he said indifferently, "Since he's my child, I'll naturally love him. Your responsibility is to take good care of the pregnancy and ensure he comes into this world healthy."
"Yesterday, it was me who swore to protect him, so rest assured, I will ensure he is born healthy and well," Flora grabbed his wandering hand on her abdomen, preventing him from continuing the teasing behavior.
"That's for the best." Maxwell once again took her by the waist, leading her into the bedroom. He glanced at the dinner order on the table and commanded, "Eat all of these things, not a drop should be left."
Flora looked at the large quantity of nutritious meals on the table, listening to his domineering command. These expensive meals weren't prepared for her but for the little baby in her belly. However, finishing all of them proved to be somewhat challenging.
Seeing her hesitant expression, Maxwell knew she wasn't afraid. After pushing her to sit in the chair, he turned to Betty and instructed, "Watch her eat, so she doesn't waste any."
"Yes, Big Young Master," Betty responded.
Maxwell then strode towards the door with long steps, leaving Flora staring blankly at the food in front of her, feeling a wave of nausea. However, there was no choice but to obey his command and finish all the food.
Mrs. Smith was about to instruct Nancy to call Maxwell down for dinner when she saw Maxwell coming down the stairs. Chiyoko considerately pulled out a chair for him and then bowed her head, quietly eating her meal.
Maxwell sat down, and Robin, sitting beside him, asked, "Big Brother, when is my Second Brother coming back? I miss him."
Maxwell glanced at him but hadn't had a chance to respond when Mrs. Smith chimed in, "Yes, next month is your birthdays. Make sure he takes the time to come back."
Actually, Mrs. Smith could have called Oliver herself, but to balance the strained relationship between the two brothers from childhood, she had to ask Maxwell to make the call. Family harmony is paramount. Mrs. Smith had always dreamed of Maxwell and Oliver sitting down amicably for a meal.
"Aunt, I will call him," Maxwell said with a smile, then playfully patted Robin on the back of his head, urging him, "Hurry up and eat, and after dinner, go to your room to do your homework."
Robin obediently lowered his head, took a few bites of his meal, and then spoke again, "Big Brother, can you go to the parent-teacher meeting this Saturday this time? I don't want Darren to go; Darren always has a cold face, and the teacher always asks me why my grades are so good, but my parents are never satisfied."
Mrs. Smith burst into laughter and added, "How about on Saturday, we let Nancy accompany Joshua at the hospital, and I'll go to the parent-teacher meeting."
"No! I want Big Brother to go. My teacher is always happy to see Big Brother each time." Robin protested. Apart from that, after the parent-teacher meeting, he could rely on Maxwell to take him to the amusement park and have some good food. As long as his requests were reasonable, Maxwell would always fulfill them.
"Alright, I'll go." Maxwell didn't hesitate much and nodded in agreement.
Robin excitedly shouted, "Great! I knew Big Brother was the best for me! Thank you, Big Brother!"
"Robin... about your teacher... is it a man or a woman?" Chiyoko looked at the excited Robin and chuckled, asking. Was his teacher happy just to see Maxwell? This statement made her feel quite uncomfortable.
"Ms. Harper is a woman, of course. Ms. Harper is good to me." Robin answered with joy.
Chiyoko sneered, knowing that with his family background and having such a handsome and single Big Brother, how could Ms. Harper not be good to him? Poor her, wherever her fiancé went, he would attract these little admirers.
"If she's good to you, you should work hard in your studies," Mrs. Smith indulgently smiled.
Robin made a face at her, expressing his annoyance at this comment. Clearly, he was very serious about his studies.
Mrs. Smith chuckled and then turned to Maxwell, suppressing her smile as she hesitated to speak, "Maxwell, let Flora and Chiyoko switch rooms. Let Chiyoko stay with you; that's only fair." The thought of Maxwell leaving Flora in his room made her feel extremely uncomfortable and angry. Flora simply didn't deserve it!
Chiyoko, who had already been heartbroken by this matter, also knew that Maxwell would never agree. However, she still lifted her head, gazing at him with anticipation, waiting for his response, hoping against hope.
Unfortunately, her hopes were dashed!
Maxwell glanced at Mrs. Smith, chuckled, and said, "No need to switch. I want to personally take care of the little baby."
Mrs. Smith immediately felt speechless, almost choking on her food. Glaring at him, she grumbled, "What can you take care of? Besides, it's the safe period now; nothing will happen to the fetus. Even if something happens, Betty can take care of it."
Taking care of the little baby? What a lame excuse! Both Chiyoko and Mrs. Smith thought indignantly. They had harbored deep resentment toward Flora.
Mrs. Smith continued, "We don't even know if the child is yours. You've been fooled by her temporary lies!"
"Aunt, don't worry. When the child is born, a paternity test will reveal whether it's mine or not." Maxwell continued to reassure in a good-natured manner. Even if the child wasn't his, even if it belonged to Kevin, it would still carry the bloodline of the Smith Family! He shouldn't be so cruel as to kill his kin!
However, he couldn't say these words to Mrs. Smith because she didn't know who Kevin was. He couldn't imagine her reaction when she found out. She couldn't remain as calm as he was now, could she?
"Anyway, no matter what I say now, you won't listen. Handle it yourself." Mrs. Smith spoke with dissatisfaction, lowering her head to continue her breakfast. Since Flora entered the picture, Maxwell had become reluctant to heed her words.
How could she not be angry? How could she not hate Flora? Moreover, she simply didn't believe that the child in Flora's belly would be Maxwell's. After all, Flora had denied it before, and only Maxwell would believe her nonsense!
Maxwell didn't respond to her, feeling a bit apologetic in his heart. However, he preferred to keep Flora in his room rather than look at Chiyoko more than necessary. Mrs. Smith should understand this, but she always made things difficult for him.
