Chapter 125: Chapter 125

"Aunt, rest assured, I won't even glance at her anymore," Maxwell replied without hesitation. He was a man of his word, although recently he had been somewhat influenced by Flora's interference. But this was something he wouldn't change!

Upon hearing his words, not only did Mrs. Smith feel relieved, but Chiyoko also let out a gentle sigh of relief in her heart. Never seeing her again, that's great! However, for a man as outstanding as Maxwell, how many more Floras might be waiting to appear?

Just as Mrs. Smith was about to leave, the sound of the front door opening reached her ears, and a luxurious car slowly entered the Smith Family mansion. Mrs. Smith was surprised to see that it was the car Mrs. Davis usually used for transportation.

The car came to a slow stop, and Mrs. Smith, wearing a joyful smile, approached, examining Mrs. Davis, who was getting out of the car with astonishment. She said, "Mrs. Davis, it's you?" Why did she come so early in the morning?

"Yes, welcome?" Mrs. Davis asked with a smile.

"Of course, welcome. It's just that I find it so surprising; that you came without notifying me in advance. Look at us; we were just about to leave," Mrs. Smith said, smiling, as she welcomed her inside.

Observing Mrs. Smith, who was in casual wear, Mrs. Davis laughed and said, "Are you planning to go to the hospital? Joshua has someone with him, so why don't you take a day off for yourself? How about it?"

"What's the matter?" Mrs. Smith asked in confusion. She came to visit, so there should be something important, right?

Mrs. Davis laughed heartily and said, "Today is Kevin's birthday. I organized a birthday party for him. Both you and Maxwell must come. You see, I came to pick you up in person to show my sincerity."

"Oh? Then I can't refuse, can I?" Mrs. Smith was delighted and forgot about Maxwell's instructions. She readily agreed. Moreover, Mrs. Davis did come personally to invite her, so it wouldn't be good to refuse!

"That's great. You have always wanted to meet Kevin, right? Today is a good opportunity," Mrs. Davis said with joy. Underneath her smiling face hid a faint trace of strangeness, an elusive strangeness! No one knew what she was planning.

Mrs. Davis, seeing Maxwell emerging from the dining room, was surprised, "Huh? Maxwell is still at home?"

"Hello, Mrs. Davis," Maxwell stared at her, smiling, and said, "Thanks for your kindness, but you may not know yet, right? I've already met Mr. Kevin, so there's no need to meet again."

Maxwell spoke in a tone that was both smiling and not, his words containing a hint of sarcasm. Mrs. Davis was taken aback. She looked up at him in amazement, completely unexpected that he would say such a thing, and even more unexpected that he had already met Kevin. Had he really met him? Why did he still seem so calm?

Unaware of the hidden waves between the two, Mrs. Smith turned to Maxwell with a smile and asked in surprise, "Is that so? When did this happen?" He had never mentioned it to her!

"It happened more than half a month ago," Maxwell still maintained an indifferent appearance, turning to Mrs. Davis and said with a light laugh, "Mrs. Davis, you have always been so enthusiastic about our meeting. There must be something good about to happen, right?"

Mrs. Davis gaped at him, her face showing a bit of unease. It was a sudden unexpected event. Maxwell's smiling expression made her feel uneasy, and his words made her feel flustered. The embarrassment was fully revealed on her elegant face.

Seeing her silent, Maxwell turned to Mrs. Smith and said softly, "Aunt, perhaps Mrs. Davis has something to discuss with me. You should rest upstairs for a while."

"Oh, alright. You two sit down and chat slowly," Mrs. Smith finally sensed that something was amiss with Maxwell's face, chuckled awkwardly, and turned to Chiyoko, who was still standing on the side, giving her a meaningful look. The two of them walked upstairs together.

After Mrs. Smith and Chiyoko left, Maxwell stared at Mrs. Davis and got straight to the point, saying, "Mrs. Davis, I hope you can tell me what's going on. What's the deal with Kevin? And what is the purpose of your return this time?"

Mrs. Davis, who had snapped out of her daze, forced a smile and replied, "Maxwell, are you overthinking? I arranged for you to meet Kevin just to give you a surprise because he looks so much like you. As for our return this time, it's merely for the management of the branch company. I was bored at home, so I decided to come back and spend some time with Kevin here."

Although she explained with a smile, there was still a hidden agenda in her tone. Because she knew very well that Maxwell wouldn't believe her explanation, and he would keep digging for the truth. Saying this was also a way to preemptively block his upcoming questions.

"Is it just that?" Maxwell asked mockingly. "It seems you have no intention of revealing Kevin's background. But it doesn't matter; I'll find out one day. However, I advise you not to do anything foolish."

"What do you mean?" Mrs. Davis didn't understand the implication behind his words and looked at him, puzzled.

Maxwell rubbed his aching head, took a deep breath, and sneered, "Because Kevin is not just a pawn. With his intelligence, he would never willingly become your pawn!"

"Ridiculous! Kevin is my son. Would I treat him as a pawn?" Mrs. Davis's face showed displeasure, rebuking coldly. She seemed very repelled by Maxwell's statement. Subconsciously, she was strongly against others saying such things!

However, Maxwell was right about one thing; given Kevin's intelligence, he wouldn't willingly be manipulated. Mrs. Davis had sensed this long ago, so many of her plans remained unfulfilled due to her hesitation and indecision!

However, she was unwilling to give up her plans for many years so easily. There were certain things, certain debts, that she must reclaim!
