Chapter 51: Chapter 51

Smoke. Smoke clouded my glasses. I felt faint, cough spluttered out from my lips, I was scared. I tried to call for help but my voice would not come out. In the thick smoke I tried to lift my hand and signify that someone was there, unfortunately I couldn't find the strength to lift it.

Someone, anyone, please...help.

"There is some one here!" Was the last voice I heard before everything went black.

I heard machines beeping around me. I peeled my eyes open. Everything was blur, my fingers started to find my glasses. I couldn't find it. I managed to sit up, but everything was still blur.

"You are awake." I heard Lucy's voice say as she rushed to my side.

I was happy to hear someone familiar, but I didn't know if I could trust her.

"Yes, can you help find my glasses? I can't see anything." I tell her as I try to figure out if she was trust worthy or not.

"Joseph went to get you a new one... The old one's frame was made from plastic. It was melting on your face when Joseph pulled it off." She said, I couldn't gauge her emotions since I couldn't see her face.

I swallow, my throat felt like sand paper. I felt a glass passed to my hand. I couldn't use my eyes so I trusted my nose, sniffing it to know what it was.

"It's just water."

Yeah and your mom was just mentally unstable, look where that got us. I say in my head but drink the water any way.

"Where is my mom?" I asked suddenly alarmed. That should have been my first question.

"She is fine, you both didn't suffer burns, just that too much smoke got into your lungs."

I nod thankfully.

"And my Dad?" I hesitate before I ask her.

She sighed.

"That's the thing, your dad and my mom are gone. They just disappeared. The police have been looking for them all over. The thing seemed properly planned because she knew how to get your dad out of the house and to God knows where."

The words rang in my head. She was going to marry him. I sagged into the bed.

"And what happened to Joseph? Was he injured?" I ask.

"I managed to escape with a inhalation just like you." I heard him say as he came in.

Relief flooded my veins as he entered.

"I took your old glasses and went to find your prescription, unfortunately they say it's only done in new York, but the guy had it in contact lens."

I blinked, I have not used contact lens before.

"Uhm thanks. I don't even know how to fix it. Could you help me?" I ask him.

I needed my eyes as fast as possible so I could go find my remaining family.

I felt the side of the bed dip. My heart started to beat fast, even if I didn't have my eyes, my heart could him.

"Open them and look up." He ordered.

In two swipes I could see his face so clearly, it was close to mine, he looked like he had not slept. He hadn't rested but he went to find glasses for me.

"Do they feel uncomfortable or itch.." he started to ask, but my lips claimed his before he could continue.

Five seconds later I disconnect our lips, because I knew it was a terrible kiss.

"I see it works just fine." He said smiling happily. Causing me to smile just as happily.

"Wow, you guys, in front of both your elder sister too." Lucy said laughing.

I blinked. In the beginning I knew she felt familiar. I couldn't tell why but now I could.

"I have a big sister" I say out loud.

Her face fell, "I don't want to take any inheritance from your dad like my mom planned, it's all yours, I'm not taking it I swear."

I waved her off, and opened my arms for hug. And she came. Hugging me because we both needed it.

"We are happy to have you." I tell speaking for Gabby and I.

"Wait, is this not kind of incest? I mean, she is both our elder sister!" Joseph said standing with mouth open wide.

"Oh my baby!!" I heard mom cry as she came in.

Tears started to prick the corners of my eyes too, her husband had been lying to her all of their lives together. He had a whole other family outside ours. I couldn't imagine how hurt she was.

"Are you okay? The doctors didn't let me leave until I was stable that's why I couldn't get to you sooner." She said hugging me.

I hugged her back with the same intensity.

"I'm okay mom.. I'm glad the police got there in time."

"And someone called the fire department ahead of time, I am thankful to that person." Mom said. My eyes strayed to Lucy. She looked away. I smiled.

"How can you see without your glasses?"

"Joseph got me contacts!" I say excitedly.

She looked at them smiling.

"Can we go home now?" I ask.

Not too long we, by we I mean all four us, were in a taxi heading home. Nobody said anything through the ride. We were all lost in our thoughts.

Reporters. I should have known theyd be there. Packed in front of the house. Forcing us to use the back door. Fortunately, Andrina and Sophie were already in with Gabby.

They gave me twin hugs as soon as they saw me. I relaxed into the hug, no words were being exchanged, no questions asked, we just hugged. Hugging was so comforting.

One hour later, only a few reporters were left, everyone asides my mom was downstairs trying to make ourselves feel busy so we didn't have to think about anything.

"We have to go now." Lucy said speaking for her brother and her.

"Where would you go?" The fire department managed to save the house from absolute destruction but it was not inhabitable.

"We'll find a hotel or something."

"Just stay here, we have two guests rooms you can use." Gabby says.

Lucy looked like she was going to decline,

"Please stay here." I pleaded.

She smiled the best she could after everything that happened to us.

We were no longer the cute happy family anymore.. we would never be. But at least. The little broken fragments from the once perfect family had each other...
