Chapter 15: Chapter 15

I could hear a heart beat, it was loud and clear, kind of like a ringing in my ears, it was almost as if I put my head through someone's chest and placed my head on the heart. Because it was loud, it was excessively loud. I blinked a thousand times per second, it only got louder. Was the heart beat I could hear.. could it be possible... it was coming Joseph? My eyes squinted, trying to find him again, in the darkness. There was no much light, and my eye sight was terrible. I could only see his silhouette. I didn't think it was possible, but the heart beat was some how faster. My fingers found my glasses on my desk, and he was suddenly a person, all of a sudden I could see the features of his face.

He was wearing a loose black T shirt, his tan arms folding across his chest.. his arm muscles flexed. I gulped. Because of some weird reason, I felt excited at the movement. I couldn't see what he was wearing underneath the T-shirt, but it looked baggy, I didn't understand why on Earth it was so important for me know what he wore with the T-shirt, because I was seriously concentrated on finding out, like it was a math equation.

He cleared his throat, rather forcefully. My eyes snapped up to his face that instant, he looked even more beautiful, I knew from the droplets of water that dropped from his hair, that he just had his bath. The cheap halogen bulb above his head that was flickering on and off at intervals, illuminated his face, and gave him a glowing look, at that exact moment I knew it was my own heart beat that I could hear.

"Uh oh..." I whispered, I could feel my eyes wide open, and I stopped breathing for a few seconds.

He sneered at me in irritation and before I could say anything he shut his window. With a bang, the resounding echo let me know he was not pleased with my staring.

Shaking my head, ending my reverie. I found my mouth dry, and my throat sore, like I screamed or something. I felt breeze blow across my cheeks from the open window, I shivered a bit before closing it.

A million things were running through my mind at the moment, why was my heart beating so loud? Why was he living right across from my room? Couldn't it have been his sister, or mother or some other member of his family? Why him?? I blinked, and why was my hand shaking?

"What happened honey?" Dad ran into my room looking around frantically.

"Why are you here?" I asked him confusedly.

"You ask me that? Why did you scream?" He asked me back. Mom came in that exact moment. She was struggling with her night gown and holding a baseball bat that dad owned.

"Where is he hiding?" Mom asked, she was searching my closet.

"What is going on here?" I asked them, looking from one parent to the other. They looked odd, both wearing their matching night robes, and matching bed heads.. my eyes went to the digital clock on my bed stand, 10:23pm.. too early for a bed head..

"You can't mess with my daughter in our house you hear! Come out, and I'll whop your ass." Mom screamed. Pointing her bat in every direction.

"Stop!! Nobody is in here except me." I tell them, I didn't understand anything going on, was this a parent thing?

Confusion passed through mom's eyes, she shared a look with Dad, before putting down the bat.

"What do you mean sweetie?" She asked, her eyes still looking around, but her voice was lower.

"I'm alone in here, because it's my room, and it's late at night." I explain to them slowly, dragging out each word so they can understand.

"Huh? Then why did you scream?" Dad asked.

I plopped on my bed tiredly.

"I didn't scream." I tell them.

"Oh no, you did, we heard you loud and clear." Mom says coming to seat with me on the bed.

Before I could defend myself, and tell them they were mistaken, Dad cursed and I winced.

"Don't tell me you stopped me halfway because you had a nightmare." He said massaging his temple.

"Stop you halfway from?" I asked in confusion.

Mom cleared her throat awkwardly.

"Not the point sweetie, why did you shout?"

I opened my mouth to defend myself against their accusations, then closed it immediately, I remembered that my throat hurt like I screamed... My eyes widened. I don't remember screaming, but I feel like I screamed, my parents heard the scream, how did that happen??

Mom sighed,

"You saw a roach didn't you?" Mom asked standing up from the bed. I wanted to say no, but what reasons would I give for shouting?

"I saw one earlier too, I told your Dad to call the exterminator, he postponed, don't worry sweetie, they don't bite, hopefully it won't come here again, you are safe for now, and it won't hurt you, okay sweetheart?" Mom asked.

I blinked, she gave herself a reason and I was lacking one of those, why bother correcting her? I just shrug. Dad sighed before leaving the room. I forced an awkward smile for my mom.

"See you tomorrow. Go to bed straight away, you have school tomorrow." She tells me before placing a kiss on my forehead.

"It's Saturday tomorrow mom."

She shrugs before leaving the room.

I turned towards the window, his window was closed, so I stood up quietly to peep at his window. I found him staring straight at me for the second time this night. My palm pressed flat against my lips before I could scream. I drew the curtains down instantly, later, I ran to my bed. Getting under my duvet, in a bid to hide myself from him, as I could still feel his eyes on me.

My heart was still racing at one in the morning. My eyes wide open, my thoughts all over the place, but loud enough to let me know that I was only thinking about one person, one scary, very sick (because he gave me the disease that I still have.) Creepy, very beautiful person. I shook my head, while turning for the hundredth time this night. Trying to get rid of him, and his beautiful face, and very silky hair, I groaned. This was not helping. I got up from my bed, my destination was the kitchen, I was going to drink water, I was sure it'll help me sleep.

Three bottles of water, two hours later I was still wide awake. Giggling stupidly each time I thought about his square jaw, or his devilishly beautiful face. Which was every single second.

Slapping myself across the face, I go to the kitchen, I remember my mom say milk helped people sleep. So I drank one carton.

Yup, five cartons later, I finally felt sleepy, that was 5:30am. But I was grateful, because I could finally go to bed.

"Wake up!!!! We have a picnic with our neighbors!!" Mom shouted, as she entered my room.

I blinked, the sleep didn't leave my eyes, so I turned facing away from the door, facing the window. Big mistake. Because mom pulled up the curtain. Sun rays flittered into the room. I shot up instantly. Then laid back down, as I was struck with an over powering headache. I hissed.

"Mom!!"

"Get up!! The picnic is in few minutes."

"What picnic?"

"The one with the Wilson's silly."
