Chapter 49: Chapter 49
JAYDEN
I had just returned from school but I could tell something wasn't right. Ethan wasn't home. I wondered where he had gone. He wasn't at school today. He had told me he was going for an interview. Although I doubted it, I couldn't prove him wrong. I thought he should be back by now. Bella wasn't at school too. When I asked Lucy why Bella was absent, I was told she had an urgent call from her mom and had to travel back to Washington, D.C.
I wanted to call her but had left my phone at home when I was in a hurry. School was boring without these two important people in my life. I couldn't listen to any of the lectures and kept starting the window just in case they showed up.
Now getting back home with nobody to talk to, I decided to stop by a restaurant so I could get something to eat. When I got there, I met Mira. It had been a while since I saw her. After the incident that happened on Bella's birthday and she had run away without looking back. I tried reaching out to her but she wouldn't hear me out. I went to her house to talk to her but she was adamant.
I kept trying to get her to talk to me but Bella told me to let her be. She said she was still hurt and would come around soon. I believed her and stopped calling or texting. I have been waiting and hoping she would come around soon. Seeing her today, made me feel guilty once more. She stared at me but said nothing. I waved at her but she ignored me. I shrugged. Maybe she still isn't ready to talk to me yet. I turned to leave and realized I haven't gotten anything yet. I turned and caught her staring at me. She turned her gaze away quickly. I stood contemplating on what to buy. Although she was a bit far from where I was, I could tell she was still staring at me. I decided to talk to her if she doesn't want to talk to me. I will get my stuff later.
I walked closer to her and when she noticed I was getting close to her, she turned in the other direction and hastened her steps. I increased mine too and finally caught up with her. I held her by her hand and she had to stop moving. "Hi, Mira"
She pulled her hand away from mine and folded her arms. I guess she doesn't want me to hold her for the second time. I waited for her to say something but when she said nothing, I spoke up. "How have you been?"
"As you can see, I'm well"
I nodded. "Of course, you are. I'm sorry..."
"We shouldn't be talking this"
"Mira, I haven't been myself since you left the party. I tried reaching you but..."
"I saw your calls. I ignored them intentionally. I saw your text too. Can't you understand that I don't want to have anything with you again?"
I sighed. "Mira, I know you're angry with me. I know you're pissed off. But I'm sorry. I was confused about my feelings. Thanks to you, I've been able to know how I feel towards Bella. I'm sorry I had to hurt your feelings to learn mine"
She sighed. "You never told me you wanted me in the first place. I just can't help it. You knew I love you but you never told me how you felt for me. I..."
"Mira, I love you". She batted her lashes. "I love you as a friend. Just within a short period, you've thought me so many things I couldn't learn for a long time. You're kind. You're beautiful. And I'm sure you will get the best guy who will love you for who you are. Any..."
She waved. "I know you're trying to cheer me up. Well I forgive you"
I furrowed my brows. "Are you serious?"
She nodded. "Or you want me to revoke my..."
"No, no, no. Thanks"
She stretched her hands. "Want a hug"
I nodded. "Sure". I moved closer to her and hugged her.
"I've missed you" she cooed
"I missed you too"
She withdrew from the hug. "You're here to get some food right?". I nodded. "Do you have some free time?". I checked through my schedule in my mind. I wasn't having much to do today, since Bell is out of town and Ethan, I wasn't sure if he was going to come back soon. I nodded wondering why she asked. She rubbed her palms today. "Why don't we chat over some plates of nice food?"
I smiled. That's a good idea. I've missed her chat and needed one right now. "Sure. We should go back in or do you have any place in town?"
She started at me. "Ain't you going to call Bella?. I mean isn't she supposed to know you're with me?"
I laughed. "Bell is not a problem, ok. She isn't the jealous type. Even if she sees me with you, she won't say a thing. She's got the assurance that I belong to her. And right now, she is not in town. She has gone to Washington, D.C."
"I think you should call her"
"My phone is not here. You have nothing to worry about. Let's go"
She shrugged. "If you say so"

I had great fun with Mira. It was a good thing I get to see her again. We talked and laughed about so many things. I was happy to hear she was now in a relationship with someone. She seems happy when I told her Bella and I are dating though I could see the disappointment in her eyes. She was still happy and showed she had moved on.
When it was time to leave, I said goodbye to her and headed home, hoping Ethan would be back. The door was locked. I opened it and entered. The room was dark just like I left it. If Ethan was back, he would have put the light on. I entered, looking around for a possible change.
I knew Ethan wasn't back yet. I decided to call him to know when he would be back. I picked my phone. Bella had given me a tonne of missed calls and had sent messages to me too. Ethan had called too. He sent text messages too.
I decided to check Bella's messages first. The first three were to tell me she had to go to Washington, D.C. to see my mom. The last two talked about Ethan trying to get in touch with me. She asked if I was fine. I called her and from the way she sounded, she was worried something was wrong with Ethan.
I was worried about Ethan too. I tried calling him but his number wasn't going through. I checked the messages he sent and that was when I realized something was wrong. He had sent me a message three hours ago to tell me my mom slumped suddenly and had been rushed to the hospital.
I blinked. My mom?. What's wrong with her?. I decided to check the second message. It said that she finally entered into a coma and had not opened her eyes yet. He hoped I could come over and see her. He said though the doctor said she might not survive it, he hoped I would be there to say my goodbye just in case she doesn't make it. He said he do not want me to lose the last moment with her as I lost, with my dad.
He sent another message saying it's the right time I forgive my mom and spend the little time she has left with her. He said he hoped I will have a change of mind and come over He added the address of the hospital just in case I finally have a change of mind.
I sat down on the bed as tears dripped down my face. I just do not want to lose my mom. Though I am very mad at her for getting married to her husband's boss, I do not want her dead. I stood up to get my things ready. I will be flying back to Washington, D.C. I need to see her and tell her, she can't leave me, not soon enough.
