Chapter 72: Chapter 72
Ora’s POV
Seven years later
I was drowning in a sea of darkness. There was nothing but a sense of deep, dense void. Who was I? What was I doing here? Why couldn’t I remember anything?
My entire body felt so sore and limp; my bones and muscles seemed like they were made of limestone forbidding any kind of movement. I couldn’t even feel myself breathing.
“Good morning, love,” A deep, velvety voice caressed my ears.
“I know you were hurt by the words I said to King Augustine. I should have never said that I didn’t love you…..”
A flicker of light pierced through the darkness, scattering it. From the deepest recess of my mind, I recalled something. I recognized this voice. But, who was it?
“It’s already been seven years, love. Don’t you think you have punished me enough….” I felt something moist on the back of mu hand. “It is time to wake up now….” The voice grew hoarse, “I don’t know how long I can go on like this, Ora… I really don’t know….”
Ora? Yes! Ora! That was my name. All the darkness that had been surrounding me scattered and the memories rammed into me with great impact. Did Sandy address me by the term ‘Love’? And what was that moist feeling? Had he kissed me?
I was suddenly made aware of my heart that had started thrumming like crazy. A long, deep sigh caressed the back of my hand, “It is time for Daily news.”
“The Lycan King finally gave up on his arrogance and met up with the new Grand Magus. They have signed a peace treaty. The werewolves and the witches have agreed not to attack each other for a hundred years. That is great news, isn’t it?”
“And did I tell you that Ayana is returning tomorrow? She is bringing her mate Eric along. The unification ceremony will be held a month from now….” Something caressed my forehead, “I really hope we can attend the ceremony as a couple.”
He patted my head, “Stop being lazy now and wake up soon….” His voice trailed off. I heard the sound of receding footsteps and then silence.
His words kept repeating in my head like a video set to autoreplay. Had I really been asleep for seven years? Was that even possible?
I tried to move but my entire body still felt like it was made of lead. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t even lift my finger. The day of the ritual flashed in my mind. Maybe, I was already dead and by some kind of magic, I could hear Sandy’s voice…
No, that didn’t make sense. He had been talking to me and I felt his kiss too. F***! What exactly was going on?
A soft creak sounded followed by the sound of door being closed. Then, there was a click of the lock snapping into place. Soft footsteps drew closer to me and the space on the bed beside me shifted. I felt someone’s hand on my forehead but it was way smaller than Sandy’s.
“Aunt Ora, are you awake now? You ought to have awoken by now. I finally got the chance to meet King Augustine yesterday. You know what I did, I tricked him into giving me the snow pearl crystal. After trying for almost an year, I finally managed to perform the revival ritual.” He paused for a moment before adding, “If you are listening to this, you have to help me keep it a secret. If Mom finds out that I am practicing magic, she will be very upset.”
There was a thud as he slid down from the bed. A few receeding footsteps, then a pause. He walked over again and grasped my hand, “You must be numb and stiff after lying on the bed for such a long time. Since, I am already here, I will use a bit of magic to give you some strength.”
A sense of warmth washed over me as energy flowed into me. It spread throughout my body healing me. When the flow of ener6gy finally reached my heart, a sharp slicing ache caused me to sit up with a gasp.
I sat there stunned for a very long time; my eyes fixed on the boy standing in front of me; too afraid to even blink. What if this was just a dream and he disappeared once I moved.
Evaan’s expression mirrored mine. He was probably thinking the same thing. The creaking of the stairs broke the moment. Evaan scrambled onto the bed and threw his arms around me, “I knew that this spell would work, Magus Ora! It had to work!”
“Evaan?” His name rolled off tongue, leaving a taste of ache mixed with joy. “Is this really you? Are we both dead and in Netherland or something?” I caressed his back as I spoke those words. He felt real; blood and flesh.
He withdrew and flashed me a sweet smile, “We are still in the world of living, Aunt Ora. You were asleep for seven years that is why you are feeling confused….” His eyes widened suddenly, “Aunt Ora, I have to leave now. Mom must be looking for me.” He said in an anxious voice and jumped down. Unlocking the door, he urged, “If anyone asks, you don’t know how you woke up.”
With those words, he just disappeared. Moments later the door was pushed open. I laid back quickly; unsure what to say or how to react. Emilia peeped inside and called out, “Evaan? Are you hiding here?”
She called a few more times. When she didn’t get any response, she closed the door again only to return moments later. She walked closer to me and took my hand in hers, “At first, I was really mad at you. I even tried to kill you.” She broke into a peal of dry laughter.
“Now, I just wish that you would wake up soon. It pains me to see sandy go through his life like some robot. It won’t be long before I relent and let Evaan learn magic. Then, he can perform the spell they have been talking about.”
There was a long spell of silence before she continued talking in a hoarse voice, “Sandy told me that you treated Evaan as your own child. You even wiped out his memories to keep him safe. I am begging you for his sake, Ora. Please wake up.”
Evaan was right. There was no need for anyone to know that he performed the spell. I groaned softly before opening my eyelids slowly. My gaze met hers and she jumped to her feet with a gasp, “Is that really you or am I hallucinating?”
“What is happening?” I managed to say in a groggy voice before falling limp again. Emilia called for the healer and soon I was surrounded by so many familiar faces; Kevin, Kiara, NIvaan, even King Augustine had rushed over.
However, one face was missing. Where was Sandy? Why wasn’t he here?
Everyone rejoiced when the healer said that I would recover within a few days. They chattered excitedly but none of their words registered in my mind. My gaze remained fixed on the doorway, waiting for Sandy to arrive.
