Chapter 57: Chapter 57
Ora’s POV
I needed Nivaan’s full name for the ritual to work. I don’t think Evaan ever told me his full name. Even if he did, I just couldn’t remember. I know I could have just asked Nivaan himself but I made this an excuse to go and visit Sandy. The truth was that I wanted to see if he was alright.
“So? Why are you here this time? To torture me or is it to kill me,” Sandy taunted the moment, I walked into the cave. His gaze was condescending. So, he had finally decided to blame me for everything.
“What is Nivaan’s full name?”
“Nivaan Lovelock….” He replied reflexively but then his face blanched. “Why exactly did you want his full name?”
“Maybe I want to save him; maybe I want to kill him,” I shrugged. “It isn’t like you can do anything about it. So, why bother.”
I was slammed against the wall the next moment with brute force. Sandy grabbed my wrists and held me there. I could have used my magic to push him away but I didn’t. I wanted to revel in this moment even if meant enduring the pain searing through my back. The bruises from the lashes were still fresh and the pain caused by the pressure was almost unbearable.
Sandy drew closer until we were barely a few inches apart. I could feel his breath against my skin and his enchanting eyes bore into mine, “Do you have any idea how much it pains me to see you like this?” My eyes drifted to his adam’s apple as he swallowed hard. “Can’t you give up on this petty revenge; for my sake, for Evaan’s sake?”
I won’t lie. For a moment, I was tempted to set him free. Then, Zaviana’s face flashed in my mind and my resolve hardened. I snorted, “Why must I do anything for you? Who are you to me?”
“Are you never going to change your mind,” his voice had dropped low, taking on a husky tone. He was so close now that his lips were almost touching mine. My breath hitched and I closed my eyes. His lips grazed the length of my cheeks and he nuzzled my neck. My entire body tingled with goosebumps.
Slash! A cold blade was thrust into my abdomen. My eyes snapped open to land on Sandy’s expressionless face. He rushed towards the exit of the cave but rebounded on reaching the veil of magic. My eyes drifted from him to the dagger that had lodged itself into my flesh. Tears brimmed in my eyes but I blinked them away, ‘
“If you want to get out of here, you have to do way better than this. The place is sealed with my life force and the only way to break it is to kill me.” My lips curved into a weak smile, “You will have to thrust the dagger right into my heart.”
Clenching my teeth, I pulled out the dagger and threw it toward him, “Want to try again?” Blood gushed out of the wound but I wasn’t bothered by it. I could heal it using magic.
Sandy grabbed the dagger from the floor and raised it in the air; my blood still dripping from the blade. His fingers trembled but his eyes were ablaze with determination. He was probably going to strike me again.
I must have been crazy to give the dagger back to Sandy; fully knowing that he had just stabbed me. It was at that moment, I realized, I had fallen for him. Only love can make one do such stupid things: Like testing whether the other person has feelings for you. Even if that means you are risking your life.
His grip on the hilt of the dagger tightened and he lunged at me. My heart stopped beating and for a moment, I thought he would kill me. A primal cry escaped his lips and he struck but the blade didn’t hit me. It zipped past my ears and lodged itself into the hard wall behind me.
Sandy’s forehead was covered in sweat and his eyes flitted with conflicted emotions. “Even after everything you have done, I can’t bring myself to kill you and I hate myself for it,” he scowled and turned away, letting out a frustrated grunt.
If I stayed here any longer, I would have ended up doing more stupid things; like confessing everything I was going to do. So, I teleported out of there quickly and made my way to the room where Nivaan was kept.
Drawing in a deep breath, I knocked at the door, “Nivaan, are you in there?”
This time the door opened very quickly; almost as if he had rushed to open it. But, the moment his eyes landed on me, his face fell. Massaging the back of his neck, he stuttered, “I thought… Emy…. Never mind….”
“You have been waiting for very long, haven’t you?”
“You have no idea girl, you have no idea….” He licked his chapped lips and his eyes glazed over, “I have been having these recurring dreams since five years and I always wake up thinking that the woman from my dreams would just appear one day…. I know this sounds crazy but that is how I feel….” His voice grew choked towards the end.
I took his hand in mine and stated, “I think it is time to put an end to your suffering, you just need to come with me…..”
His eyes twinkled, “Can you really help me?” The next moment, he pulled away and frowned, “Who are you? How did you get in here?”
Nivaan was panicking and I couldn’t afford that. God knows what kind of protection spells Valence had put on this room. So, I grabbed his hand and stabbed him with the needle I had brought along. He passed out immediately and I teleported him to the secluded cave where I had made preparations for the ritual.
Reversing Brisanje was way more complicated than performing it. It could have lasting damage on the brain of the person. He could even go crazy.
I laid him in the center of the infinity pattern chalked out with blood. Holding his hand, I sat right next to him and closed my eyes. This ritual would enable me to enter Nivaan’s memories. If I managed to unveil the haze over them, Nivaan would remember everything once he woke up. If I couldn’t, I would probably be stuck in his memories forever. However, I was willing to take the risk. It was the least, I could do for Evaan before everything was destroyed.
