Chapter 82: Chapter 82
Chapter Eighty - Two
Jasper's POV
I watched as Ava took a quiet breath on a hospital bed. Sleeping peacefully. She passed out in the car when I carried her outside. And I was glad. I was glad because I did not want her to see me in tears. As far as I could remember, it had been more than ten years since I had my last cry. Nothing had me more emotional than seeing her like that. Beaten, helpless, a crying mess.
Watching her like that was so damn difficult. Her pain seemed to invade my own skin. It was such a prickly feeling, as if I was invaded by needles, to see her like that and unable to do anything. To be unable to take her pain away.
All because of that bastard, Daniel.
He got caught easily when we reached the address that Charlotte had provided us. We got there just in time, otherwise I had no idea what that jerk would have done to Ava. However, I did not have to worry about him anymore.
The Officers assured me that I did not have to worry about that anymore. He will take care of everything from there on. I knew that I could trust him.
Although, what I wanted to do with him, had nothing to do with court and law. I had my own ways. But right now, I cared about nothing except Ava. He won't get out of this untouched. I had my people dig up some dirt about him. All of it would be sent to the police next morning, and even if he did manage to escape after that, which was possible since he also had connections in the police department and not just I, then I would take care of him my way.
I just wanted him to ...
"Jasper?" A pained voice called out. I spun around to find Ava conscious, even though her eyes were shut. I reached over to her side in no time. I bent down over her figure.
"Ava." I whispered, grabbing her hand and kissing it.
Her eyes opened. She seemed unable to focus on me for once but then her eyes settled on my face and she whispered back.
"Jasper." Her soft hands squeezed mine, one that I was holding her hand with. I smiled, feeling my throat getting heavy as tears filled my eyes. I took a deep breath and sat down beside her on the bed.
"Hey." I said, caresing the hand I was holding. Ava's eyes filled with tears.
"You came. You came to save me." She whispered, her beautiful face twisting because she started to cry. I shifted to her side and cradled her head in my hands.
"Shuu ... Shuu ..." I soothed her.
"Of course, I came to save you. I always will." I told her, but she was not listening to me anymore. Her body was shaking with her sobbing. I did not say anything more, just ran my hands through her hair. Letting her cry. Letting her get all the emotions out, once and for all. She had been wronged so many times. She had faced too much injustice. She had been abandoned, left alone but she survived it all. Her braveness had gotten her out of every bad situation. And I admired it.
However, I made a promise to myself right then and there.
From now on, all she was going to face was happiness in her life. Even if there will be difficulties, I would stand by her side and be her rock, so whenever she feels like falling apart, I would be there to catch her. I would do anything in my power to save her. Anything.
*Two Days Later
I got the deal. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I was on the top amongst my competitors. Since Daniel was not there to fight against me, it went pretty smoothly. He was in a court trial because of all the dirt I had pulled up against him and the police had confirmed that he will be going to jail for a long period of time. The odds were in my favour this time.
Ava had been discharged from the hospital. She was fit and healthy. Even the baby did not have any damage. Something in my gut told me that the baby was just as strong as her mother.
I told her everything that happened between Daniel and me. How things went that way and who else was involved. I told her that Charlotte was also involved in this and was one of the reasons Ava got kidnapped. I mentioned that I would fire her and report her to the police but Ava told me, no.
She told me that I should give her another chance. For the sake of friendship that had been between us and because she did not think Charlotte was a bad person. According to her, she was just caught up in her emotions that led to the wrong things. So, I agreed, more because of her request, than because I want to let her go. The friendship Charlotte and I had was over the moment she helped Daniel to kidnap Ava. For that I hated her.
Anyway, today when I was about to pack up and go home to Ava, she was on house rest for a few days because I had forced her, Charlotte entered my room. I was in a really good mood because I was about to go home and see Ava, therefore I really did not want to see her right now.
I shook my head. Standing up to pick up my coat from the chair I was sitting on.
"Now, isn't the right time to be here, Charlotte." I told her.
"I am leaving to head home." I said while shrugging on the coat. Charlotte shook her head at me and walked forward with an envelope in her hand.
"No. It won't take too much time. I am here to resign." She told me. Her words gave me a pause.
"You are resigning?" I asked her, a hint of disbelief in my tone. She smiled at my words.
"Don't sound so shocked. It was meant to happen." She said, Walking over to me, she handed an envelope to me.
"It's a printed resignation letter. I had already emailed you a copy of it. Please accept it." She told me. I pulled out the printed resignation letter and gave it a flying look.
"Why are you resigning?" I asked, not paying attention to what I was asking.
"After what I did to you and Ava. I think it was supposed to happen." Charlotte whispered. I raised my head and met her eyes. I did not say anything because we both knew that she was right. It was the least consequence she had to go through. She smiled when I did not say anything.
"Jasper. I'm sorry for what I did to you and Ava. I was wrong. Everything I did ..." She sighed.
"I was blinded by what I wanted. I had my future planned. And my future plan involved you. I did not want to lose that thus I did everything in my power to bind you to me. When I should have just accepted it and given up." Her head bowed and she stared at the ground.
"I know that my actions don't deserve forgiveness. But please ..." Grabbing my hand, she squeezed it.
"If possible then please forgive me. Both you and Ava. I had already apologised to her but I just wanted to make sure that you both know how sorry I am for what I did. And I wanted to wish you both, 'all the best' for your future. You make a great pair." She said, Letting out a sigh, she retracted her hand.
"What are you going to do now? Now, that've you resigned?" I asked her.
"I'm going to open my business in Italy. I'm leaving this country, that was why I thought that I should say goodbye." Charlotte said.
"You're leaving this country?" I asked her, surprised by her decision. For some reason, my heart ached. It was ridiculous but deep down I knew that I was losing a friend. She nodded her head in yes. Finally, she spun around and began walking towards the door. I felt like I should say something to her before she actually left.
"Charlotte." I called out. She stopped in her tracks and looked over her shoulder.
"Call me if you need any help with your new starting business. And ... stay in touch." I told her. Hearing that, she smiled at me over her shoulder. In return, I smiled back.
And then she was gone.
Later, when I reached home, I hugged Ava and kissed the living day out of her. Later on, when we were having dinner, I told her what happened with Charlotte. Ava just smiled and told me that it was for the best. It was a new beginning for all. And I realised how true it was.
It really was a new beginning for all.
