Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Chapter Fifty - Eight
Ava's POV
The first thing I felt when I regained my consciousness was that my head was pounding. After that I realised that somebody's hand was placed over my head. It was a big, rough hand and somehow, I thought I recognised the gentle touch.
Jasper.
"Uhh ..." I let out a pained sort of voice. The hand on my head, stroking it or checking my temperature, whatever it was doing, halted in its movements.
"Doctor, I think she is waking up." I heard a distant voice. By the sound of it, I knew it was Jasper and thus, I realized that the voice came from somewhere near me and not from some far distance.
I opened it slowly. My eyelids fluttered, trying to adjust to the light.
"Jasper?" I called out, my voice raw and raspy. As if I had been asleep for a very long time.
"I'm here." Jasper said, suddenly appearing in my vision. He was sitting by my bed, his hand flattening on my forehead. He withdrew his hand and stared down at me with a frown. Worried and concerned about filling his features. Was he always this gorgeous or is it me just hallucinating everything?
I let out a sigh.
I would be okay if I could notice how good looking he was.
"What happened?" I asked him, the haze clearing out completely out of my sight. When my vision cleared out completely, I realised that I had been bathed in my own sweat. It was like somebody had thrown a bucket of water on me. I could feel my t - shirt, my pajamas all soaked with it.
"Miss, White. I am Dr. Halstead, here to look for your condition." I heard someone call out my proper name. It was when I looked on the side of Jasper did I realise that he was not alone.
A middle aged man was standing over me with a kind smile on his face. He had his normal clothes on and did not look like he was some sort of doctor. Until you see his face. There was some sort of way about doctors. Some distinct vibes that anyone can recognise from far away.
"Hello, Dr. Halstead." I greeted him, pushing myself to change into a seated position. Watching me struggle, Jasper slid a hand behind my neck and helped me to sit down on the bed. It was quite a struggle. When I finally managed to sit down, I was heaving with deep breaths. There was an ache in my lungs.
I had not realised how weak I had become until I had to perform a small task to push myself to sit down.
I met the doctor's eyes.
"What happened to me?" I asked both of them, simultaneously. My eyes darted from Jasper to Doctor.
"I passed out." I asked Jasper, moving my face to meet his eyes. Jasper glanced at the doctor, who took a step forward to speak.
"Yes, miss. You passed out. But you are alright now." He told me, a varied smile on his face.
He and Jasper were hiding something. The doctor's assurance had sounded a bit doubtful, as if he himself was questioning something.
None of us spoke up for a few seconds, so I took the initiative to do it.
"Umm ... I know I could be just being irrational. But I think both of you are hiding something." I told them both. Taking notice of the weird look passed between them.
The doctor cleared his throat.
"Yes and no." The doctor stated, confusing me.
"You passed out but I don't really know the reason why. Mr. Gray, here told me about your condition. You are pregnant, right?" The doctor asked me, no judgement in his tone.
I took a quick look at Jasper and then very slowly nodded my head. Agreeing with the information, he told me.
For a second, I felt bad that Jasper had told the Doctor about it. After all, I wanted to limit the number of people who knew about this, but I saw his reasoning through it. Hiding such a major detail about someone's health from a doctor was not right at all. Especially something like pregnancy. It was not something you hid from your doctor.
"Well. I think you should get some tests done." He suggested it to me, making me worried.
"But why? I just got back today from getting the routine check up." I opposed it. Why would I need for another check up while I already get checked for everything else today?
"Just to be sure. I don't think it is normal for you to pass out so frequently. I would suggest that you get a full body check up. Get thoroughly checked up, so if there is any problem, we could tackle it early. Before, it became something bigger." He explained it to me.
"Anyway. I had prescribed you some medicine. It will help with all the dizziness and fainting in general. But I insist on you having a whole body check up." He told me. With those last words, he closed his briefcase that I was just noticing he had with him.
"Well, then. I'll get going." He said, giving me a nod.
"Thank you. Dr, Halstead." I said, and he smiled at me.
"I will guide you out." Jasper said, pulling the cover more over me, he tucked me in.
"Just wait here for a second. I'll help the doctor out." Jasper whispered, before giving me a smile getting up. Both of them looked at me for the final time, before turning around and walking out of the room for good.
Leaving me alone with my thoughts.
Was my fainting and feeling dizzy frequent? Was it normal? And I need to go for a full body check up? But why? I mean, I had been sick and feeling this way because of pregnancy, right? What possibly could else be the reason? The doctor's words gave me a reason to be worried.
Was something wrong with my baby? Or was it something else?
