Chapter 57: Chapter 57

Chapter Fifty - Seven

Ava's POV

"Jasper. Please, help me?" That was the first thing that I said after watching him enter my bedroom. Pleading him to release me from my current situation. I was unable to bend my face forward and look him directly in the eyes.

Although I could not see his face entirely, I knew that he was currently staring at my condition in shock. Somehow, I knew that I was looking ridiculous too, even without me seeing myself this way. Who would not find this situation ridiculous?

For a few seconds, Jasper stood in the doorway, frozen. But then the shock wore off from his face, and his eyes crinkled with amusement. I could see from the corner of my eyes that he was very trying not to laugh at my condition.

"What did you do?" He said, entering inside the room. While trying to conceal his laughter.

Was I looking ridiculous?

Who was I even lying to? Of course, I looked ridiculous. If someone else was in this condition then I would be laughing too. But, right now, that laughter was at my expense, it stinged badly.

"The hook of my top got tangled by my hairs. Can you get it out?" I asked him, completely ignoring his reaction to my current situation. Right now, all I could think about was that I needed to get out of this situation.

I saw him nodding.

"Sure. Let me have a look." He told me.

He lazily walked over to me, hands in pockets of his own shorts and hair messed up. He came up behind me and swiftly, removed my hand that was trying to get my hairs untangled from the hook.

His hands were warm and big and it felt way too intimate to have his hand hold mine and remove it personally. I could feel him behind me, his closeness slowly shutting down most parts of my brain slowly. His breath on head was warm and gave me goosebumps every time I felt it graze my hairs.

I felt his hands come up behind me and gently began working on my tangled hair. Gentle was a word I used because, beside a gentle tug, I did not feel any pain or any sting while Jasper worked on my hair. His hands worked on the knot like a pro, and in no time my hair was free from any sort of tanglement.

I was just going to say thank you when Jasper went to another extent in helping me.

He gathered all of my hair and pushed it around my neck, over my shoulder. Baring my one side neck to him.

This action caused my body to react in a way that I was not expecting. Not only did I stop breathing, but I also stilled at my place. Stopping myself from moving even an inch. It was like I was anticipating something, as if something was coming in the next few moments. I did not exactly know what it was but I was certain that something was coming.

Right after Jasper pushed my hair aside, I felt his hand hook my up my toy.

I corrected him right away.

"No. Leave the hook unhooked." I blurted out, stopping him from doing it.

The sentence sounded so not right, that I hurried off to elaborate myself. Or else he might get the completely wrong idea.

"Actually, I was trying to take the top off. So, you could leave the hook unhooked." I explained it to him, wishing he would not get any wrong idea from my first sentence that I had spoken to him.

I waited for some sort of response out of him but he just, without ever speaking a word to me, proceeded to unhook my hook and then his hands rested on my shoulder, lingering there.

During this time, none of us spoke or said anything to burst the bubble of the moment, whatever we were having. His hand trailed down on my bare skin, and I did not even stop him. But then I heard him shudder a deep breath, like he was holding his breath just like me.

Suddenly, he firmly placed his hand on my shoulder and spun me around. Removing his hands from my shoulder and placing them right back into his pockets, he shrugged.

"It's done." He said, his voice sounded way more heavy and huskier than usual. Although his exterior was all casual and filled with indifference, I knew better. His chest was rising and falling way more deeply, like he was trying to control himself by taking deep breaths. Or maybe it was just my imagination. After all, my mind was unclear from the haze he created.

If I were in my right mind, I certainly could tell. But right now, it must be clouded by my own mood.

I also let out my holding breath and inhaled deeply. Doing it in a subtle way, so that he would not notice it. I pushed my hand backwards and felt for the hooks. Yup, both of them were unhooked.

I gave him, grateful smile and let my hands fall on my side.

"Thank you. I was trying to get those hooks unhooked for a very long time, but was failing miserably." I told him.

Jasper took a step back and returned my smile with his own.

"Well, now, there you have it. Now, you do not have to struggle anymore." He told me, smiling. For some reason his smile appeared strange, more strangled. Like he was smiling to hide his pain or something. I was pretty sure that I looked the same as he did. Because, I was also trying to hide what his closeness was doing to me recently. It was strange.

It was like I was intoxicated but without getting drunk. It was like I had taken a hit of drugs and had gone in a transit like state but was not. His intoxicating scent was so overwhelming that it was shutting down most parts of the brain.

As if he had performed a magic that had left me high.

"Yes, all thanks to you." I told him, suddenly noticing that his pupils had dilated for some reason. There was a change in his expression that I did not want to decipher.

"Well. Now, go ahead and change." Jasper said, and he took another step back. Finally, he turned around and walked out of the room, this time not so casually. Not like when he entered this room.

For a second, after seeing his expressions, I had a very dangerous thought in my mind. That was so no healthy to think about.

Was there a chance that he might be attracted to me as well?

I shook that thought off as soon as it entered my mind but it was too late. It had contaminated my mind already. There was no way that he would be attracted to me. No way. There was not even a chance that he would even think of me that way. No way.

I mean, come on. I was a lot younger than him. We had an almost five to six year age gap. And not only, I was pregnant but I was carrying a baby from a stranger. Well, not a stranger anymore.

I knew who it was now.

Daniel Cooper.

Whom I met in no other than Jasper's damn office. I met him in person and he did not remember me.

Grabbing the top from my side, I pulled it over my head and off my arms. The memory of him sitting in Jasper's office ...

Picking up my normal t - shirt, I straightened it and then pulled it over my head and down my waist.

Letting out a sigh, I sat down on my bed and then fell behind, half lying and half - dangling off the bed.

And then I let my thoughts loose.

I had not let myself ponder over the incident because my mind was swirling from many other things. However, it did not mean that I had forgotten about it. How could I forget about it?

Now that I knew who he was and what he does for a living, my situation still had not changed one bit. He did not even remember me. And even if he did, then I had a serious doubt that he would actually step up to take responsibility for this kid.

"Ava came downstairs. The dinner is ready." I gasped at the sudden intrusion of the voice that tore through my thoughts.

It was Jasper, yelling from downstairs, breaking me out of my thoughts.

I pushed myself in the seated position in a rush and felt my head become light headed, and I suddenly became dizzy.

"Coming in a minute." I yelled out a reply so that Jasper could hear my reply. This was getting annoying.

Clutching my head, I let out a curse. I should not have jerked it up like this. Nowadays, any sudden movement could make me feel dizzy very quickly. I forced myself to stand up. My head still banged like it was hit by a heavy object.

Damn it to hell.

Avoiding the weird banging sound, like a metal was being hit by another one, I got out of my room and walked downstairs. Step by step, I made my way to the kitchen and when the dizziness got too much for me to handle, I rested my head against the wall.

"Hurry up." Jasper yelled from inside the kitchen again. Making things worse. God, how I wish he just stopped yelling.

"Already here." I spoke loudly, as I pushed myself off the wall and entered the kitchen.

Jasper spun around to glance at me. When he saw me, he gave me a smile.

""Ah, you are here." Jasper said, putting the pan on the kitchen counter before heading my way. Before anything could happen, like me fainting out, I sat down on the nearby counter stool. Steeling myself from the dizziness, I asked Jasper to bring me a glass of water.

"Umm ... Jasper. Can you get me a glass of water?" I asked him, hoping he did not notice the way my voice felt a little delirious.

"Sure." I heard him say. I heard in the background, Jasper's footsteps tapping on the floor board as he walked around the kitchen. He picked up a glass from the rack, then walked over to the faucet. He grabbed and filled the glass with water before walking to my side.

"Here." He said, extending me the glass of water in his hand. I felt him jump on the counter stool next to mine and settle in. I grabbed it without looking him in the eye and slowly drinking it.

Ah ...

The water certainly helped in the dizziness a little. The fuzziness around my eyes cleared and I finally managed to raise my head and meet his eyes. He was smiling at me like usual.

However, as soon as I did meet his eyes, the dizziness washed over my head once again.

Out of the blue, Jasper's smiling whooshed into the thin air and his expression changed into a worried one.

"Ava, are you okay? What's happening?" He asked, looking weirdly alert.

Something was not right. I was not feeling good. Something was wrong.

"I am going to bed. I need to rest." I told Jasper.

I placed the glass on the counter slowly and stood up from the stool that I was seated in. And, the moment I did, my whole body swinged like I had been drugged.

Jasper jumped up from his seat and grabbed my shoulders.

"Ava. Ava." I heard his call but then I completely lost control of myself. My legs gave out and I fell down. Only saved because Jasper was holding me by my shoulder, hence he caught me in mid fall.

"Jesus, damn it. What's wrong?" He questioned me, and then I blacked out. Letting the darkness take me in.
