Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Chapter Thirty — Four
Ava's POV
The next place that Jasper showed me was way different from all other places in this house. I didn't even know that this place existed. I know that I had said the same thing before about the wine cellar before, of not knowing that it existed, but this time I meant it.
Before I, at least, knew that it must be in one of those rooms in the house. But to be here, we actually had to leave the house and walk in the backside or some might call it a backyard, to get to this garage. Again, the garage door was normal. Like, normal people had, but when it opened it was certainly not one of normal one. One calls it a private parking lot.
“Welcome to my own personal garage.” Jasper whispered as the door gave away to the most expensive scene I could witness.
A gasp left my mouth and I covered it with my hand.
Well, hell.
There were cars. Many cars. It was like I had entered a car showroom. There were almost eight to ten cars all lined up, one after the other. Some were big. Some small. Red, Black, white and even dark blue, but the prices of all of them seemed the same.
“Oh my god.” The words left my mouth, seeing and watching all these shiny and slick cars in front of me. With my mouth half open and my hand covering my mouth, I turned to my side and looked at Jasper with my eyes wide open.
Jasper let out a laugh at my expression and shook his head a little.
“At least, I got that reaction from someone.” He said humorously, and jerked his head towards the inside of the garage.
“Let's go inside.” He said, and placed a hand on my back to move me inside. I just followed his lead blankly, unable to fathom what I was seeing.
“Are all those yours?” I asked AGAIN. The same dumb question I had asked him in the winery.
I let out a curse in my mind and tried to correct myself immediately.
“Why do you seem so shocked? Didn't you tell me that you think rich people have many cars? Why were you not accepting it from this one?” He asked me. That question seemed like an accusation. I ignored his taunt and resumed with the question that I was asking him.
“What I really meant to say was, why do you have so many cars when you only seem to be using only one?” I questioned him. The question seemed like a taunt. However, for some reason I did not take it back nor did I try to correct myself.
Was it weird that I actually wanted an answer to that question? After all, I had never seen him or maybe his driver drive another car than his usual one. What was the point of having so many cars when he did not even drive it?
“Just to show off.” He replied, his face and voice all serious, and I gulped a little. His honesty took me off a little. My mouth was still a half open when I asked him my next question.
“These many cars? Why don't you have just one?” I asked him.
Jasper leaned down to me and whispered, “Why not?” He answered before straightening to his full length. His eyes skimmed over all the cars. And he gave me a smile and walked over to one of his cars. He placed his hand on one of the cars and slid it down a bit. He tapped before looking at me over his shoulder.
“Do you really think that I bought all of these cars just to show off?” He asked me. This time there was a hint of seriousness in his voice along with curiosity. His question threw me off once again, and I was rendered speechless once again. If I think about it, there was no reason I could find apart from him showing his cars off to people. However, if that was the case, then I wondered why he only used one car to go everywhere. It did not make any sense. So, I just told him what I think about it.
I nodded my head and Jasper looked away. It was my cue to open my mouth and begin explaining.
“I mean that's what I think since I cannot find another reason. But then again, if that was the case, then why would you only use one car to travel daily.”? I answered him. He glanced at me and nodded his head, smiling.
“Would you like to know all these cars' names?” He asked. I slowly walked over to him and stood at his side.
“Sure, but don't go into the details and tell me about the features of it all. I am not a car person, so please don't try to make me one.” I warned him. He smirked at my answer and raised an eyebrow. I frowned at him, feeling defensive. I knew what he was thinking, and I wanted to clear that out before he started making assumptions about me.
“Wait. I know what you are thinking. That I am a woman, so small brain that dislikes “Manly'' Topics like cars and sports. Let me clarify this thing before you make assumptions about me. I don't like cars because I don't know much about them. When I buy one for myself one day I will eventually begin to know them, then I will probably like them as well. But for now, leave me out of this topic.” I told him. He let out a half laugh before shaking his head.
“No. No. I was not thinking that at all. All I was thinking was that you must be the first woman who actually accepted this without pretending to know about it. I have seen many women who pretend to know things when they don't know anything about it.” He told me while smiling at me, but I knew he was probably trying to stifle his laughter.
His comment about other women seemed indigestible to me. Hold on a second …
“Women only pretend to know the things that they had no idea about because they get judged for it easily. Not knowing a thing is directly connected to women being stupid and dumb in general. When it is absolutely normal to not know things. You would be shocked how telling a man that they don't know Something can turn into a montage about how small their brain was to comprehend all this knowledge.” I lectured him. It was true, more than often I had seen it happen in front of my eyes. When people judge a whole species over a mere fact that a woman did not know one answer. It was annoying and demeaning. It was like one woman represented a whole gender.
The jasper smirk soon changed into a genuine smile.
“You are assuming something entirely wrong. I was not trying to insult you or any woman. I was just stating what I had witnessed in general. Furthermore, I don't think of a woman any less if they do not know about something. It is just a matter of learning.” He replied.
Jasper exhaled loudly and nodded at the cars. His answer eased something in me. Truth be told, I disliked guys who put women after each other. Thank goodness, he was not one of them. Or at least, he pretended well in front of me.
“So, do you want to know? About the names?” He asked, gesturing towards the cars. I smiled at him and told him, “Yes.” He walked after the first car and pointed at it.
“It is the first Lamborghini Veneno car. I bought it after I started this company.” He told me. This car hardly looked touched, so it was hard for me to believe that it had been used for rides. The structure of this car was smooth and the black color of the car looked shinier.
“I was so proud and happy when I brought this.” He said, pride filled his voice before he moved on to the next one.
“This is Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita. It was my dream car during college. I had dreamt of buying it one day, and I did. Right after this car.” He nodded towards the Lamborghini. Then he moved to the next one and introduced the next car as well.
“Bugatti Divo.” He told me as an introduction before moving on to the next one. I was admiring and analyzing all the cars he was showing me, and also loving every detail that he was telling me before buying a new car. So, when he just told me about the next car and moved on to the next one without giving me the background story, I stopped him.
“Wait.” I said and stopped him from introducing me to the next car. Jasper halted in his tracks and gave me his all attention and confused looks.
“That's it about this car? No background story behind it?” I asked him. He glanced at the car before shaking his head.
“No. There is no story behind this car. I just liked it, so I bought it. There is no other reason.” He commented.
I raised a brow then shrugged at his explanation.
“Okay.” I said passively. He tapped the hood of the next car and began explaining the next car.
After the first two cars, he only told me the name of the next car without giving me any background story. Maybe, because after the first two cars, he did not need a reason to buy one. He had the money, wanted to spend it, so he did. On the cars.
Next few cars that Jasper gave me the name of were very famous like Mercedes — Maybach Exelero, Rolls — Royce Boat Tail and Ferrari while the rest of the other cars just were not so famous. Anyway, One thing that was clear that day was that he was super rich and liked to buy cars.
“So, did you like them all?” He asked me, pushing his hands into the pocket. We were standing near the last car he just introduced me to. I darted a glance at all the cars and nodded my head with conviction, smiling a little.
“Yes. All of them are great.” I said because I did not know what else I should say. At first, when I entered this place it was a shock for sure, but now the shock has passed. And now, I felt nothing except, except well, I did not know, maybe passive was the right word. It was hard to describe what I was feeling. I just knew that it was not yearning. I was not feeling like having all these cars to myself. Or jealous that I did not have these for myself. I did not know what was along with me.
“You did not seem impressed, though.” He told me.
“Were you trying to impress me?” I answered him without thinking and suddenly realized that I just threw a flirty line at my boss. He appeared just as stunned as I felt.
Abruptly, I back tracked.
“No. No. I did not mean that. I certainly mean that. What I mean was, that — uhh … yes. I'm impressed, but not so much.” I blurted out.
“Why?” Jasper asked me.
“Because … I tried to find a reason, but could not come up with anything.
“I don't know. I — I am just not that impressed with all of this stuff. I don't have a reason to explain. I don't know.” I said, unable to gather my thoughts completely. Jasper bobbed his head up and down once, like he understood what I was feeling.
“After a while, I lost interest in this stuff as well.” He explained, making me wonder what he meant by that. His somber and exhausted voice almost made me question him out loud. Was he tired of buying these things? What did he mean by losing interest in stuff like this?
Both of us quieted down, and I stared off into space. Jasper also seemed to have gone lost in thoughts. For a whole minute, none of us spoke before a question popped into my mind. It was a completely random question that I had wanted to ask but forgotten a long time before. Which was a little weird considering the fact that I wanted to ask this question desperately at that time.
“One random question, if you don't mind me asking, why did you come to my house when it was almost burglarized by the intruder?”
