Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Chapter Thirty — Three
Ava POV
Has it ever happened to you that you made an assumption about something, and it came crumbling down right in front of your eyes?
Like assuming a person was poor, based on their clothing style, but they turn out to be way richer than you could imagine? Or you see a person sitting alone in the cafeteria by themselves, and you pitied them for being alone, but it turns out to be, that person chose solidarity and preferred alone time, or maybe they were just trying to avoid their friends' company?
Yes? No?
Well, it happened to me.
My assumption about this place being a small place shattered right in front of my eyes as Jasper showed me the first place in his house during a house tour.
Right after we finished lunch, Jasper asked me.
“Is there something that you always wished to have in your house?” The question totally took me off guard, making me think. I had never given a thought about it. One thing that I always wanted to have in my house? I always wanted to have something in my house that I could not afford.
I heard a chuckle beside me, breaking whatever trance that I was in.
“If it's making you think that hard, then it could only mean one thing, that you never thought about it. Okay. Let me rephrase that question, “What do you think that a rich person has in their home?” Jasper asked.
I tucked a hair behind my ear, feeling self-conscious. Why did he have to put me in a situation where I had to answer him such a question? Couldn't he just show me his whole house without asking a middle-class rich person a question? What was I supposed to say now?
As all these thoughts ran through my brain when I suddenly felt guilty like thinking this way. This man, who was always busy, had made time for me so that I could know the places that existed in this place, for goodness’s sake. He did not have to do any of those things, he could just ask Maria to the same job, and I was thinking this way? This person did not need to show me around, he already knew this place, this was his house goddammit! Of course, he knew.
And here I was questioning, why could not he just shut up and show me around this house without asking these questions?
But then again, it did not improve it that he was asking a non-rich person to give a rich person an answer. This was a valid point too.
How was I supposed to know what rich people had there in their house and what not? It was not like I had done any research or something. I mean, he was asking this from a person who lived in a two-bedroom house with their parents.
“Seems like I should not have asked you that question. Okay, I should give you a tour of this on my own.” He said, a little disappointment in his voice. I closed my eyes.
God! I did it. Again.
What was wrong with me?
I was such a horrible person.
“Wine cellar. Many cars and bedrooms, Gym.” I blurted out every single thing that came to my mind. My eyes still squeezed shut. I peeled my eyes open slowly to see Jasper's mouth hanging open a little, looking at me with stunned expressions. Did I say something wrong? Why was he looking at me that way? What did I say to make him stare at me that way? Man, I should keep my mouth shut, I always blurt stupid things.
Suddenly, Jasper let out a free laugh. His shoulder shook, and his eyes twinkled with his smile reaching his eyes. It was such a good laugh. It lit his whole face up.
“Correct. Exactly.” He was still laughing a little. His face was tension free but sincere, and I realized that he Actually agreed with me.
My heart warmed at his words when I finally found out that he was not making fun of me and did not think what I said was stupid.
“Really? Or are they just making fun of me?” I asked him. I was still a little doubtful.
He shook his head and his laugh changed into a heart-warming smile.
“No. No. I am not making fun of you. It is just that you guessed all of it correctly. What made me laugh was that just now, you were not even giving me any answers. And then you blurt out every single thing correctly.” He said. His head tilted to a side as he gazed down at me before nodding.
“I do have all those things.” He told me. He rolled his shoulder in a circular motion, making his muscles in the biceps move in a way that drew my attention. Quickly, I forced myself to gaze at the floor.
“Okay. Let me just show you this time. Come on.” He said, and walked me out of the dining room. He led me to a room that was just beneath the stairs. It was a well-made wooden door, maybe carved by a professional carpenter. However, it was still, just a normal door. Nothing special. Jasper opened it completely and gestured for me to walk inside it.
“Ladies first.” He said. A blushed creeped in my cheeks, could not help it. It was just weird to hear from your boss. I kept on forgetting that even if I called him Jasper at home, he was still my boss.
“Thank you.” I whispered and took a few steps forward and was directly met with a railing that was curved from the side and led downstairs. As soon as I stepped inside, the whole dark room lit up with lights.
There was a system of motion lights. One that lights up a place sensing motions. Great.
Right as the place lit up, my mouth fell open a little and my eyes widened. It was the correct reaction for what I was witnessing. I did not even bother to close my mouth as I took in the place.
I stood at the top of the stairs looking down a big room that was filled, no let me rephrase that, which was stuffed with expensive wines. Wines after wines. Everywhere I looked, I was met with wines. There were as many as forty -five to fifty-five wines — holding racks. Filled with wines from the sides.
“Whoa …” I said. Finally, being able to comprehend what I was seeing.
“This is wonderful.” I said out loud. I felt Jasper walk behind me as he towered my small figure once more.
“Is it?” He asked from behind me. I spun around with my hand covering my mouth and met his eyes.
“Are they really all yours?” I asked him in a wonderful manner. He threw a glance behind me, taking in everything, and looked back at me again. He had his hands in his pocket.
“Yup. All of it is mine.” He answered and stuffed his hands in pockets again.
Right as he answered, I closed my eyes and clasped my mouth, feeling stupid. Especially at my stupid question.
Of course, all of it was his. Who did I think it was for?
“Let me take you downstairs.” He said and placed his hand gently behind my back to guide me down the stairs. I descended the stairs with Jasper right behind me. We reached the ground, and this time Jasper walked around from behind me and took me to one of the aisles that was in the middle.
“Wow. I have never seen so much wine in my life. I am just amazed.” I said and walked over to Jasper.
"Are you a big wine fan?” I asked him. Moving closer to look at the wines.
They certainly were expensive. I was pretty sure that I would lose my monthly salary if I decided to even buy one of them. And that will be stupid.
However, here the whole place, every stack of aisle was filled with them. Seeing all these wines together, someone might have the idea that all of these wines are cheap. Unless, you pick one and check the price tag. Of course, only a billionaire would afford these expensive things.
Jasper came to my side and picked up the wine that I was staring intently and handed it to me for inspection.
“No. I am not a big fan of wine. But usually the guests like to have a drink. Therefore, I keep a big collection. Not to mention, sometimes I invite people from business to home. Therefore, I have to make sure that this place remains loaded with wines.” He answered.
The bottle itself seemed costly, so I could hardly guess the price of wine in it. Cautiously and gently, I placed the bottle back in its place. Jasper picked up a bottle and twirled around and placed it back in its place. I glanced around the place.
“I would offer you a drink but if I am not wrong, then it is not healthy for baby's health right?” Jasper asked. I did not know why, but it amazed me a bit to know that he knew about that.
I nodded.
“Yes. I am off wine. Even though I am a wine person, I can't drink.” I told him. I liked it mostly. It was better than the other drinks. It was a little sweet and spicy. Its bubbly taste always got to me. I was not a heavy drinker, only a few shots were the maximum I had gone to drink, but this drink made me feel light-headed easily. Even thinking about it, made me want to have a taste from one of these.
Jasper smiled at my answer, looking humored.
“It is weird, isn't it? I am not a wine person, but I can drink. Still, I would not. On the other hand, you are a wine person, but you can't drink.” He said and we both exchanged a grin. It was true. And a little hilarious.
“Do you have your own winery farm, or did you buy them all?” I asked. Despite seeing all of this in front of my eyes, I was still unable to believe it. Raising my head, I got a chance to look at them all.
EXPENSIVE.
“A little of both. I do own a winery farm and some of these wines came directly from that farm. Although, most of it is brought from abroad. Especially Italy. They have the best wines in the world.” Jasper told me.
“Is there anything else that you drink aside from wine? Do you prefer anything else?” Jasper questioned.
I felt a little ashamed when I answered him.
“No. I never tried anything else aside from wine. I never gave any other drink a try besides this one.” I told him. It was embarrassing. I had given it a thought to buy other drinks and try those, but whenever I was in a bar or club asking for a drink it was always wine. I was weird, man.
Jasper chuckled a little and heaved out a sigh.
“So, I guess I could not get you anything besides wine?” He asked, and I just smiled in answer and shrugged.
“Okay, then.” He said, and both of us quieted for a bit.
After a second, Jasper pointed to the door.
"Come on. I will show you the rest of the places in this house. We have many other places to go.” He said. I nodded my head once.
I was not sure how many more places there were to see. Before I was a bit skeptical, but now I was ready to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Since, I never even imagined that this house had a wine cellar in his home but there was. If this could be here, then god knows what could not be.
Anyway, I was ready to see everything else just the same. Jasper was a wonderful company.
Anyhow, I began to walk back to the door. While ascending stairs, I stumbled on my foot and lost control for a second. Two hands caught me from behind, and I gained my balance back. This was the second time this had happened to me.
“Are you okay?” He asked from behind me.
“Yeah, thanks.” I replied to him and then both of us got out of that room.
