Chapter 88: Chapter 88
(Vivienne)
The case of Victor reminded me of the fact that indeed a doctor cannot heal themselves. They were humans just like us and needed help sometimes and now I was running around trying to help him
Several times he refused me to touch any part of him and reminded me of several promises I said about staying away from him but this was a life and death situation
He was shivering like a child and his fever had gone high hence I quickly washed his feet with warm water, dipped the clean normal socks in cold water, and made him wear them, and above I slipped in some dry wool socks since he was suffering from fever to get rid of the fever and increase circulation throughout the body.
"You'll be fine sir," I said as I sat down and placed a damp cloth on his forehead. I had to run between the bathroom and him just to get access to warm water from the tub. It would have been easy if I had a small basin to put water in. Unfortunately, I didn't have one hence I had to improvise and now I finished sponging him. His forehead, his groin as well as the back of his neck, and feeling his skin, I could tell his temperature had gone down a little by the time the lady I sent to get some fever medication knocked at the door, the grumpy man was calm and wasn't tossing and turning
"Thanks a lot," I said, taking the meds and some hot ginger tea I asked for. Whatever I was doing was good for him. The ginger tea do the trick and get rid of his fever
"Madam, do you need anything else...should I call for the doctor," the lady asked but I glanced I side looking at Victor now lying in bed, I shook my head
"No...it's fine now," I said with a smile and the lady nodded, bowed, and left from there. I closed the door and walked back to the bed
"Ms. Payton you didn't have to...this is nothing, "Victor said as he struggled to sit up, his eyes closed for a while and I heard him exhale deeply. I guessed he was adjusting to whatever discomfort I made him go through
"So which one is it?"I said holding the cup of hot ginger tea and the box of paracetamol. His eyes narrowed as he shifted his gaze from the cup then to the medicine. He was a doctor to others and well I was now his doctor. It was fun as I smiled like a child
"This" he pointed at the medicine and I nodded and discarded the tea to the sides knowing I was going to trick him into drinking it
"How many?"
"Just two" he replied and I popped out two tablets, got a glass of water, and handed everything to him. I watched as he took the medicine and gave back the empty glass of water and I put it aside on the table and turned my attention to his feet. I guessed I had to make him take off the two socks I made him put on
"Sir why did you come if you are unwell?"I asked him not sure why he was being careless with his health. He needed to stay in bed for a few days so that he could feel better
"This is nothing... Ms. Payton you are the one treating this as a big deal"To my surprise, he answered me rudely, I wanted to counter back and tell him things but I dropped the idea, by now I knew he was a stubborn man. He was a proud man who thought he wouldn't need anyone's help and now that I jumped in and meddled in his affairs he was likely to insult me for being nice to him
"That's your problem sir...trust me with me you are in safe hands," I remarked with a smile showing him his harsh words meant nothing to me. He could as well as drop an entire bucket of insults but I wouldn't be affected in the slightest
"For a mistake made...for breaking the second rule in my rule book...I have no choice than to deduct from your payment" like a shrewd man he was, Victor said and Immediately the words left his mouth, I looked up at him with wide eyes. He was ridiculous
"What? But this...this was a life and death situation...I…"I didn't even know what to say, this wasn't a mistake but saving his life. Yes I broke some rules by touching him and meddling in his affairs but this was serious not a joke
"I didn't cry for help, did I?" he spoke looking at me with a dark expression letting me know he was not happy and I frowned as I folded the wet socks angrily
"You were groaning and tossing and disturbing my sleep...just say thank you!"I lashed out feeling irritated, he was such a bad man so ungrateful that I just wanted to smack him on the head and insert some nice words in his business-minded brain but I dropped the harsh idea because he was my boss
"I don't say thank you ever" he spoke nonchalantly and I was done being nice to him. He was a soaked cat a minute ago now that he was feeling better the man was insulting me I was bound to get angry
"Fine then...you... ungrateful...sir" I stammered searching for words to describe him. He was a total jerk for that matter. I had nothing to say to him as I finished up what I was doing
"Okay now you'll be fine," I said as I covered him back and set the socks aside. I turned back to him and was stunned to find him staring at me. I thought he would avert his eyes from me but he was just looking at me without blinking
"I'll take my leave?"I blurted out just to avoid the awkwardness in the room hence I removed the cloth from his forehead and tried to get up. Unfortunately, I was grabbed so suddenly and so quickly that I fell on top of him, gasping at his actions. I looked up and Victor had that serious expression that had me nervous
"Sir...I" my lips parted and the words escaped but before I couldn't say anything when Victor's hands moved to the sides of my face and cupped my cheeks with his warm smooth large hands
I was dumbstruck, shocked by the position I was in with him. My heart raced rapidly not sure what to do about the situation but I quickly averted my eyes from him
"Ms. Payton does it hurt?" he muttered looking straight into my eyes but I didn't know what he meant, whether it was his insults or something else so I shook my head as I remained there without moving. I waited for him to speak but he just looked at me not sure what he was thinking
"Okay" just like that he said and let go of me, I moved away from him and he turned away to his sides "lights off" Victor murmured after a while and I nodded still confused as I got off the bed and cleared the place
By the time I was done the man was fast asleep which was what assumed hence I walked to the floor hoping to get some shut eyes seeing that he was fine but just as I was about to cover myself and put my head down Victor spoke
"The bed is big enough for two...take the other, side," he said and I grew alert, the room was dark and I thought he was sleeping already but I guessed he was not
"I'm fine here" I mumbled and slept there closing my eyes shut
"Your choice," he remarked but I already decided, I didn't want to share a bed with him. It was best I stayed away from anything which would make me get close to him

The night passed by and when morning came, I was woken up by birds, not what I wanted but several birds were by the window chirping loudly which made me groan in my sleep as I moved around trying to sit up. My head hurt a little as I slowly flickered my eyes open. The room was bright hence I closed my eyes for a while then opened them again
"Good morning sir," I said with a lazy yawn glancing at the bed hoping to find the grumpy man around but to my shock, there was no one there. I grew alert wondering if he was bathing but the bathroom door was slightly open and I saw a few suits on the sofa which meant he had gotten already gone out
"He has to learn to take care of himself," I said out of frustration as I got up not sure why he was being so careless, I stomped away but stopped when I found a note on the bed and it was from Victor ("I'll be gone for some time...I've arranged for a driver and someone to escort you around the City if you want to explore") I read what was written on the card and frowned
"I thought he was unwell but now...such a grumpy man" I muttered feeling irritated, he was such a pain in the neck and acted like a baby. I didn't understand why he brought me with him when he was going to leave me with some driver. I didn't care because I had a brochure to help me go around the city and see some fun stuff. While Victor did the work he came here for, I would take my time having a wonderful time by myself and promised to get into trouble so he could run back to me.
