Chapter 167: Chapter 167
(Vivienne)
"Why is he so difficult?"Alexis asked as we rushed for classes. We were so late and Mr. Whitlock was a ridiculous professor. He didn't tolerate late coming and of course, he gave difficult exams...forget tests and assignments which were like he didn't have a heart
"It's cool he's just preparing us for our future," I said, fixing my hair. I was a total mess. I was only wearing blue skinny jeans with a blue tank top and some sneakers. My hair looked like a bird's nest because I didn't blow dry it but just washed it and applied conditioner to soften it
"Come on, let's hurry or it will be a full lecture on being late which would apply to our resume, "Alexis said sarcastically and I wanted to laugh because her words made no sense. But I understood her unlike me, she was the center of it all. Being the vice Chancellor's daughter wasn't easy. She and to be the perfect example and she was exceptional
"Oh thank God" she exhaled in relief when we got to class and it was as noisy as ever. We walked in getting glances from others. I greeted a few students I got to know and we took the second seats in the front
"So I guess he's taking his time...should we charge him for being late...I mean let's say it's an important meeting," Alexis added, throwing her hands in the air. I laughed seeing how ridiculous she was mimicking our professor..she got him good unfortunately that was cut off when the class suddenly went out and went silent. We stopped what we were doing and looked towards the front if yes. The bald man with specs walked in holding his laptop. His move was graceful as if he didn't make any mistakes. We called him Mr almost too perfect
"Good morning class...I presume you did the research I gave you" he spoke in a serene lazy voice. Alexis elbowed me and I muffled my mouth to stop myself from laughing. The man was wearing a brown suit ironed to the fullest. His red necktie was way too tight that I felt uncomfortable on his behalf
"As a business student, you will learn to take academic theories and apply them to real-world problems. Business schools craft students into astute decision-makers and professionals who can readily navigate uncertainty, risk, and change."The man recited the words like he always did. I saw some students at the back yawning and when I secretly glanced at Alexis she was a total mess. I guess the late-night party we went to must have worn her out but she was busy puffing out air with her mouth open while supporting her chin with her hand.
There was a small pool party downtown at a farm house and we were invited by her friend from another school. She called it small but it was big and exciting and sinful. luckily I managed to get out of it alive while she got wasted knowing we had classes the next day
"It's always necessary for a student to know exactly what they are doing... Business studies require concentration... dedication and hard work…" he said and I took out my notepad to take down a few notes. Yes sometimes he went overboard with his lectures but I wanted to learn the best. This was important for me especially when I was about to go for my first internship. I didn't know which company would accept me but I already started looking around New York
"Shut him up...he's so boring...dad should handle this"Alexis whispered as she dozed off but ended up exhaling out loud getting the professor's attention
"Ms. Crawley...may I know what's wrong...do you perhaps have anything to share with the class," then said as he adjusted his specs and I saw Alexis got awkward. She didn't expect this especially when everyone's eyes were on her
"Umm...not at all," Alexis said awkwardly while scratching the back of her head. The professor scanned her for a while then he got back to the whiteboard
"As I was saying... finance…" he continued and the rest of the two hours of his class was all yawns and people dozing. The class had many students and he bored them to death
"But I'm worried...yours is secured but the company I go to is important," I said to Alexis who was busy stuffing her face with ice cream. We were walking down the passageway coming from the library and she kept on nodding
"It's cool...I'm sure you'll figure something out" she said nonchalantly and I was forced to snatch the bowl of ice cream from her and she whined
"It's everything...I need to go to a place which is solidified...this is more important but so far I found none who would accept me unless I had some sort of...you know"I didn't even have to finish the sentence. I was so worked up that Alexis must have gotten bored of me and my future goals but this was important
"I'm not worked up about mine because Dad already has plans for that...he has a friend who owns the biggest company across the world...he's dad's friend...I'm sure I'll go there" Alexis said as we got out of the football field. I could go play basketball with the guys but I was too exhausted
"Hey Viv...wanna play!"the football team captain shouted from across the field showing me the ball but I shook my head
"Later Gibs!"I yelled back and he gave me a thumbs up. When I came here I got Interested in sports and tried out something new. The guys liked it and since I played quarterback. They always called me for their training
"What I mean is...I'll talk to Dad...he already asked me about you...I guess he looked through your grades and he said you are exceptional" Alexis said and emptied her backpack and the books fell right on the grass. I took mine out one after the other and knee the vice Chancellor was barely seen. Even a meeting with him was hard but I got to meet him a couple of times Alexis invited me to her house
"But that's not what I want…"
"To work hard and do this yourself...but trust me...my dad is the best...he knows students like the back of his hand and I heard this time...the school will be selecting the companies we'll be going to, "she said and I was surprised. I didn't know that
"Really how is that possible" weren't we supposed to choose for ourselves
"I heard dad say it...that's why you need to chill I'm certain if it's dad in charge then both of us will get something good...I just hope he recommends his friend,'s company to you too"I heard Alexis loud and clear but I didn't want to get anything just because I was her friend but if her dad was in charge then I was hoping for the best
"Our internship will start in a month or two...I'm so nervous okay...three years feels like forever" I said and dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes, the slightly wet grass pricking my back and exposed arms but I didn't care. I exhaled and inhaled the wonderful fresh air of wet grass and opened my eyes to look at the blue sky. It was slightly sunny that was why we were sitting in the open to study. The boys were shouting and yelling while they played their game and the girls were cheering loudly.
Time passed by so fast, I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I only had a year to finish my studies and go into the real world of job hunting. But first I had to do a three-month internship and that was my worry, I needed to be assessed at a well-known business company to become a part-time employee which was the best part
"Just chill... you've done great compared to me...I mean I had to rewrite my finance course twice while you aced it...I'm sure you'll be able to get an MBA after we are done"Alexis said lazily and I tilted my head to look at her. She was something else. I liked her so much and I wished we could do the internship at the same company but that wasn't the case when her dad was making contacts and finding the best for his daughter
"Okay fine," I remarked with a heavy exhale and we went silent. I smiled a little and took my phone from the ground just near me and powered it on. The first message I found
("Hey princess so I'm leaving in a few hours...wanna see me")I read the message from the only person I talked to and felt better. I quickly typed a few words and waited for a reply ("ditch classes and this celebrity will do wonders")he sent back and reading his message I wanted to smack him on the head, Leo was impossible. He came to the city to pause for cameras. In fact, for the past years, he was always there for me. He came to visit me even if I used to ignore him at first
At some point Alexis reported him to the police because she thought he was some psychotic stalker but when she saw him. She went gaga over the fact that the hot model she loved was actually in disguise
("Fine I'll come to say goodbye my sweet prince")I sent it back with smiley emoji and a kissy face
"I see now...so is he the lucky one. I didn't know you had a hottie for a boyfriend" Alexis said with a smirk when she saw me smiling not what I did but I couldn't help it with Leo
"He's not my boyfriend, just a friend," I said, frowning at her assumptions. She didn't believe me, and well who blamed her when Leo treated me like some princess. It was because of him that I got to be a part of my little girl's first birthday.
He recorded everything and showed me. When she first crawled. Said her first papa word. I was more than satisfied to know she was growing up to be the best and Victor was doing a great job. Although it was just a video it still felt wonderful to see her happy. She had the cutest smile and the most beautiful eyes.
I was happy when the family was celebrating her two years birthday. I laughed hard when she smeared Victor's face with strawberry chocolate. She did it with everyone including Kyan who did the same to her. The giggles she made when she did something mischievous sounded like melodious music to my ears. I guessed Leo was always there to capture every sweet moment although he stopped.
It has been three years now and I told him not to send any more videos of my Skylar. A beautiful name Victor chose. I didn't want to lose focus because she was my weakness. As much as I wanted to know everything about my baby and Victor, I wanted to be something in life to depend on myself and my capabilities, I wanted my sweet baby to be proud of her mother if I ever got a chance to meet her. I just couldn't bring myself to ask about Victor but I knew he was okay. I saw Martha was always there by his side as well as Monica and doctor Justin. My baby was surrounded by people who adored her
"First street cafe please, "I said to the driver immediately as I boarded the taxi. I left Uni a while ago since Alexis was going home to get some things she left and I decided to say goodbye to Leo before he left for London.
