Chapter 31: Chapter 31
Three days flew by like the hot summer air. Lily didn't return to Haidee's clinic because she was embarrassed by her thoughts and begged another doctor to remove her stitches, which was a long process for her, but she managed to make it through.
And now she's back at work. Lily thought of putting herself at work like she always used to, but now even harder. Everyone around her was confused as to why she didn't take a break, and everyone was nearly getting one done because she was getting their work done for them.
"Maybe her confession didn't go well."
"I know, right. Didn't we see them talking in the hallway?"
The other woman said, looking at Lily, who was mopping the floor continuously, and the other lady shook her head.
"Let her go; less stress for us and more work for her," said the woman who cheerfully stood up and clung to the woman beside her as the other one collided with a wall in front of her.
"Can you watch where you're going?"
She couldn't continue what she was going to say when she saw that Cath, their manager, was standing in front of them, as if Cath was getting bigger and bigger and her shadow was casting them like a poor child with a stinking smell of fear, and in front of her, they were both scared.
"Back to work or I'll send you back home." Cath asked briefly, with a glaring eye.
Both of the girls bowed their heads and headed inside the kitchen. Everyone that was looking at where those ladies were standing with Cath was now busy doing their so-called task. Cath crossed her arms in front of her chest and looked at the girl cleaning the center of the restaurant. Dafne was approaching Cath and was about to ask for a sign on her computation at the end of the month. Cath just raised her hand to stop Dafne.
Dafne just looked in the direction where Cath was looking, and saw that Lily was mopping the same spot for like 3 hours, and Dafne clicked her tongue 3 times, and she caught Cath's attention.
"It was really dreadful to see her push herself like that." Dafne said
And Cath was just looking at Lily and decided to turn her gaze on Dafne.
"Do you happen to know why she's acting like that?" Cath asked.
As what Cath saw that night flashed through her mind, she was checking the surveillance camera after the police had gone to know about the fight that had happened in the past month. Then, as Cath was thinking and sitting on the swirling chair, her eyes caught something.
She saw Lily and Christian in the hallway looking at them. Christian was holding Lily 's hand, and that made Cath's blood rush to her head. She didn't know what to do and just looking at that one TV out of the 12 televisions on each surveillance camera, she placed her intertwined hand in front of her mouth as she was looking at them talking to each other, and she hit her fragile glass, and the moment she returned her gaze, Christian was left alone.
"That's how she became like that." Dafne said to Cath, but it was obvious that she didn't understand everything because she was spacing out.
"I'm sorry, but can you repeat the last few words you said?" Cath said, and Dafne just smirked as she approached Cath's ear to whisper something.
And Cath was so confused about why this woman was smiling like that, but she listened to what Dafne had to say.
"She's heartbroken because Sir Christian declined her confession."
--
Lily didn't expect herself to be like this and it was the first time. But it helps her a lot. She's aware that many people are talking behind her, but she doesn't have time to take notice because what she's doing was helping her, and then when her shift was done, she could still feel her feet but everyone was making a way for her when she walked, and some are just sticking to the wall as if she's some type of virus.
But Lily didn’t mind, even though she was scared of all the things she had done. She just brushed it off.
She placed her uniform in the locker room, but she paused and decided to take it home, especially since she was so tired from work and she might get dehydrated.
Lily was just arranging her things when her phone suddenly rang and looked like someone was calling. She almost dropped her phone when she saw that Justine was calling.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked bewildered, "Did something happen?"
"Nothing happened, Miss," Justine assured her.
Lily sighed and continued to arrange her things. She was ready to leave, but she decided to take a seat in the chair placed next to the locker room.
"I was about to ask for your permission to go out, because my mom called to say that they badly needed money, and I have to send it now." said Justine.
"Sure, just wait for me. I'm about to head home now. " Lily said.
"Don't worry, Miss, Steve has a guard with him."
"I'm just calling you, for you to know."
"Oh, Jenny left school early?" Lily inquired. said as she was finding her way out of the locker room. Then Justine started laughing.
And Lily fluttered her eyelashes as if they were a butterfly out of confusion and
"Are you making fun of me, Justine?"
"Because I'm not in the mood for something," said Lily .
"You didn't say that your husband came home today, Miss, so I decided to take a day off."
"And I'm aware that you deserve the right to privacy." Justine said.
And Lily 's jaw was locked and she couldn't find the right words to say. and thought that maybe she's too dizzy because of work because she's hearing things that aren't right.
"Are you making fun of me, Justine?"
"Because I'm really not in the mood, sister."
"And I don't have a husband. I'm a single mother, Justine. " Lily said, and she paused, making everything sink in.
"But is Jenny not really the one guarding Steve?" She asked Justine as her heart started to throb fast.
"No, Miss, a man who resembled Steve but was more mature." said Justine, and Lily dropped what they were holding.
