Chapter 33: Chapter 33

Chapter Thirty — Three

Michael's POV

My dad was poisoned?

Now he was dead?

Linda was missing?

Everything around me faded out a little, but I forced myself to focus and clenched my fists.

My head ached badly.

Sweat broke all over my body.

My body started shaking.

All the blood rushed into my ears.

My heart beat increased.

My head felt like it would split open in half.

Tears burnt in my eyes.

My throat turned dry.

And my hands itched to burn this whole world down.

But I kept calm.

Like a real Alpha.

“Where is he?” I asked Adan. My voice came out cold and empty.

“Come with me.” He replied. Without caring about anything, all three of us used our wolf speed and rushed to Dad's room.

Five bodyguards including Logan, were standing outside dad's room. All of them bowed a little to acknowledge us, but I ignored them. We all rushed inside and I saw him.

My father.

His body was resting lifeless on his bed. His face looked ashen. The rest of the body looked blue. My heart sank, and I finally realized, even though I already knew, that he was gone for good. Nobody could bring him back.

He was dead.

The realization set in. My body gave away, and I sank to my knees. Not caring if anyone witnessed me in my weak state.

My head was blank yet many questions flashed in the back of my mind.

How could he die? How could the toughest Alpha of all time die? He lived for so many years and yet now he laid lifeless? We were still kids. How could he leave us like this? Who will work for our pack now? How will any of us rule the pack without his guidance? How the hell could this happen?

All these questions remained unanswered as he never opened his eyes or gave a hint of any life in him. He was dead.

Nobody tried to come up to me or tried to console me. They knew better than to take my calm state as a sign of peace. It was the peace before the storm. A storm that will burn everyone and anyone down, who dared to come between me and my father.

I remained where I was. My face did not betray any emotion. Nor did I shed any tears. I just kept my expressions blank and hid the internal turmoil that was raging inside me.

I will kill that person. Whoever did this will die. He will become the victim of my rage.

Raising my head, I stood up and saw James sitting on Dad's side. He looked as calm as me. He glared at dad's body. It was as if he was thinking the same questions as me. When his eyes met mine I knew that there was a reason that we were twins.

Instead of tears in his eyes, I saw anger. The pure thirst for revenge and blood. His eyes shone with resolve, to find whoever did this from hell or heaven, dead or alive, and made them wish they were dead. We will find this person. Even if we had to dig him out of his grave. We will find him.

Whoever it was.

Dr. Moore and Kye quietly stood on the side of the room. All of them looked at my face, like I would burst into crying anytime. Their pitiful looks angered me.

Both of them looked away from me. Probably because of the way I looked at them.

My feet moved me over to my father's corpse and I stopped. My gaze never moved from his face when I asked my question.

“Did anyone see who poisoned him?” My voice came out plain and calm. Even I did not recognize it. I was unable to fathom how I managed to keep myself calm when I was anything but.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Kye taking a step forward.

“No. But we think...” He did not complete his thought. My head moved in his direction.

“You know that your mate is missing? What happened with the background search your father had asked you to conduct?” He asked instead. I did not like the tone of his voice. I knew where his mind was. Very well knew what he was pointing at, but I was not ready to for that right now.

“Later. Since how much time has he been dead?” James questioned. He too, was trying to avoid the topic. Which somehow gave me a tiny bit of relief. We will deal with it later. Right now we had to face more important issues.

“For three hours. Although, all pack members just got the news.” He answered. My heart had calmed down a little by now.

“Umm. Okay. We are going to have his funeral at midnight and bury him tonight itself. Invite everyone to come and deliver their respect.” I said. Dr. Moore and Kye agreed and replied with an, “Okay.”

“If I'm not wrong then this news is already out, right? Does the Alphas Council know about it?” James asked. His voice was colder and sharper. Maybe even more than mine.

Ruefully they nodded their head.

“Whoever did this knows that we are in a vulnerable position.” I muttered to myself in a low voice.

“What happened to Eason? How did Linda disappear?” James hesitated before asking. I wanted to ask the same question from them, but I was dreading the answer as well. From deep within my core, I knew that my father's death was more important than this but still this question lurked in the back of my mind. Making me hate myself for still wanting the answer.

“We don't know anything about that clearly. I found your father in his office. His whole office was destroyed. While Dr. Moore checked him, I asked Adan to call Eason and inform every other board member. However, when Adan went to search for Eason, he found him on the floor. Fainted. While your mate was nowhere to be found.” Kye explained. My ears perked up at his answer. My eyes met James' and what I saw in his eyes, matched mine.

A small hope.

Or maybe something else. Nonetheless, that kept me away from feeling the pain. That was enough.

“What do you mean by fainted? Is he still alive?” James asked Kye. Kye pursed his lips and looked at Dr. Moore. Dr. Moore looked at us looking at him. He sighed before answering our unasked question.

“He is alive but he is out. He was given some sort of drug that I had never seen before. So I do not know when or if he will wake up.” He told us. His answer gave me pause. A little hope that was now shattered. A clue within our reach and yet so far away.

Resigned by this information, I did the only thing that was under my control.

“Let's go and do the work.”
