Chapter 28: Chapter 28

Chapter Twenty — Eight

Michael's POV

The door opened and Linda stepped inside it first. I followed her but not before I looked over my shoulder to see Adan giving Linda a reassuring nod and then another to me.

With that he stood outside the door with his crossed arms. Guarding the door. He seemed more alert than he appeared. I knew that he was being vigilant without being obvious

I halted in my steps and connected my mind link.

“Show yourself. Now.” I said. Four bodyguards appeared in front of me from different sides. Two appeared from the corner and two came running to me, at the speed of light from the forest. Climbing the wall that connected the roof to the ground. All of them were bulky, broad and big dudes.

I nodded towards the gate and the hallway.

“You know what you have to do.” I said. They all gave me a nod and went for their work. Guarding the gate during our meeting.

Usually, board members do not like to see people visibly guarding the grounds, but this time everything was different. They could handle this for once. And even if any of them had any sort of objection and did not like the set up, then they would not show blatant disapproval.

Not directly anyway.

Finally, I stepped inside the room completely. This room was big enough to fit two big rooms inside it. Twelve chairs were put in a way to create a half circle. Leaving space in the middle for people to stand and answer.

All chairs were filled with Eleven big, bulgy men, except for one. Which once had been reserved for Oliver. Among them, in the middle chair sat my dad who looked furious. His eyes were red and his body gave his cold and very rare The Alpha vibes. His whole body was stiff, giving away the tension brewing inside him.

And for the first time in our life, his eyes did not soften after he saw us enter. Not only that was rare but also the way he looked at all three of us. His look made clear that Linda being our mate would not change her fate, if she was found guilty. Even if James and I did not agree with it.

And I was simply not ready for it.

As soon as we walked inside the room, all the surrounding voices quieted down. Linda walked inside the half circle while James and I stood either side of her. Only two steps behind.

Behind us the door shut closed. Linda let out a shuddering breath. For once, nobody said anything and a heavy and tensed silence descended over us.

Finally, someone spoke.

“So you are our suspect?” Eason asked. One of the members of the board. His question was mocking in a non — so — subtle way. He was clearly mocking, not only Linda but also us.

He was the type of person who never liked humans in general. Furthermore, he considered them weak. And when he found out that we, the sons of Alpha, were mated to a human, it was all too natural for him to hate Linda. He thought that we were making our pack look weak in front of the council and every other pack out there.

Like I gave a damn about what he thought about his opinion.

Linda tensed at his question. Unnerved by the way he asked the question.

I guarded my emotions and reaction to anything that was about to come next. Things would get dirty. For sure.

“What is your name?” This time Kye asked. Another member of the board. His voice was devoid of any emotion. Not giving away anything.

“Linda.” Linda replied.

“Okay Linda. Tell me where were you today?” He questioned her. Again, keeping his voice neutral. Linda kept fidgeting with the top that she wore. She hesitated before answering.

“I was with Cary today. He told me that James had asked him to keep me company because Adam was busy with... Alpha — Alpha Elijah.” She answered him. James nodded his head in agreement.

“Yes. I had asked Cary to keep her company while we were away.” He said, backing her up like a good mate.

She seemed nervous. However, Kye's calm yet blank voice seemed to have calmed her down a little.

Eason's eyes narrowed at his answer. And I knew whatever he was about to speak would not be good.

“Company? For what?” He asked her. Almost barked out the question. Linda tensed up again, at his tone. She was on edge more probably because of Adan's earlier words. Who told her to watch her words. Or things could turn ugly.

“I — I was” She stumbled on her words. I did not want her to mess this up therefore I spoke on her behalf. Not only to show her that I was with her through all but also because this meeting was getting on my nerves.

“How's she a suspect? On what behalf, any of you are accusing her? Do any of you have proof? Or any witness?” I snapped at Eason. Unable to keep the agitation out of my voice.

“And Eason, I thought that you considered women and especially a human woman weak. Then how could you even imagine that Linda killed anyone?” I asked Eason. He snarled at me.

“We have a witness!” Dad shouted pounding his hand on the table and standing up.

“Bring her in.” He growled loudly. Behind us the door opened and one of the bodyguards pushed a woman inside the room. The most unexpected person.

Janet.

Even though I had guarded my expression earlier, I could not hide my shock.

Her eyes looked wild as she took in everything before her. After taking in everything, her eyes finally settled on Linda. And her face turned into an ugly expression.

I could not believe it.

“Her?” James and I said in unison. We looked at our dad in disbelief who returned our gaze back with a snarl. Which looked more directed on Linda than us.

“Yes, her.” He snapped at us.

“Is this really happening?” James asked, looking dumb struck. My own expression turned ugly.

“Are you serious, dad? How can you believe her? She tricked Linda, planned her rape, and you are trusting her? As a witness?” I asked my dad, trying hard to restrain my anger inside but failing to do so.

“I owned my crimes head on, Michael. I never denied what I had tried to do to her.” She spat at me with venom in her voice.

“But you never accepted your crimes until someone else had found out, Janet. Only when someone else outed you out, that you decided to tell the truth. And you did it probably, so that Alpha would go lenient on you. Which exactly happened after that.” James accused her.

For the first time in my life I had the serious urge to kill a female. Never once, I had raised my hand on a girl before but now that restraint was on the urge of breaking. I wanted to snap her neck and bury her, head down into the ground.

Janet pursed her lips and watched James with her narrowed eyes.

“Enough.” The walls shook a little with the force of dad's voice.

“Tell them what you know.” He said. Janet glared at Linda who stood still like she was in shock, but spoke up.

“I saw her killing Oliver by making him drink melted silver. She held him by his hair while he choked on the silver. And when she noticed that Parker was coming her way, she disappeared in the forest.” Janet explained. If I was not so angry at the situation than I would have rolled my eyes at her stupid and nonsensical explanation.

“I tried chasing her, but she disappeared into the forest. Much faster than I could have imagined.” She said.

“Parker found the bodies?” James asked. The same kid who was bullied by Logan and Cary. And by Cary, I was reminded something.

“Where is Cary?” I asked.

“He is missing.” Dad's voice boomed. And everyone quieted down.

**Hello. Seems like I'm late but still on the time. Can any of you suggest any another platform then Facebook? Seems like I'm pretty illiterate at handling social media. Honestly, I'm struggling to know how to create an author page for myself. Anyway, enjoy. :)**
