Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Chapter Twenty — Seven

Michael's POV

“Her presence is needed as well. We had found ten bodies. And she is our prime suspect.” Adan told us. At first, I was confused, but then I realized the meaning of his words.

My head snapped towards Adan and for the first time in life I was caught off guard. I stood up with a wind like speed.

“What?” I asked. My eyes met James and then darted towards Linda whose lips were parted in shock. A look of disbelief on her face as much as ours. Like she was caught off guard.

Her hand covered her mouth as she stared at Adan then to me.

By the looks of her, I knew. I knew that it could not be her.

How could it even be possible? She was a human on an unknown and unfamiliar territory. Surrounded by strangers. Not knowing anyone here, she barely managed a day with the surrounding chaos.

And she was a damn human. Not a Werewolf.

It was ridiculous. As ridiculous as it could get.

“You heard me. She is the prime suspect for the murders.” He answered. With his arms crossed around his chest, he stared at me with an agitated look.

“That's not possible. She can't murder someone.” James said. Adan tilted his head.

“Why not?” He asked James.

“Because she's a human. She can't fight wolves.” James snapped at him. Adan shrugged his shoulders and dropped his arms.

“It's not my decision. Your dad asked me to bring all three of you. I am just doing my job.” He said.

From beside me, Linda stood up. Still shaking but appearing calm from outside.

“Adan, I did not kill anyone. I was with Cary all the time. How could I kill someone?” She asked. Adan stared at her with a blank expression, but I did not miss the flicker of concern and softness in his eyes. Since when did they become so close? My wolf let out a low growl inside me.

“You believe I could do something like this?” She asked Adan. I knew she was asking him because her gaze never deterred from his face. My hands curled in fists.

Adan stared at her for a few seconds then he tore his eyes away. Letting out a big sigh. He rubbed his neck and put his hands in his pockets.

“I don't know, Linda. I have no idea. And it does not matter what I or you think. Unless or until, you are proved innocent, you will be considered dubious.” He told her. After a moment of break, he spoke again, hesitantly.

“But I don't think that you had done it. I know it doesn't matter what I think, but I'm certain that it was not you.” He told Linda. After hearing his words, Linda let a smile, albeit a sad one, kiss her red lips.

My insides felt like they were burning. It felt like a punch in my gut to see that Adan's view over this situation mattered to her more than asking us. By the looks of, I was pretty sure that James was feeling the same way.

Adan nodded outside the door.

“We should get going. We don't want your father to wait any more than he already has. He would have my neck for it.” He told us.

My back straightened at his words. I gave a nod, and we headed towards the field. Linda walked ahead all of the while we walked a little behind her, looking like her bodyguards. Giving her privacy and space.

James, I and Adan connected our mind link.

“Is the area clear?” James asked Adan. None of us took our eyes off Linda as we walked.

“Yeah. The ground is clear. Right after we found the bodies, I and Cary cleared the ground off from any people. Everyone working on the work field was given a day off.” He said through a mind link. For once, I got distracted by the way Linda's ass was moving. Her hips rolled in a delicious way that gave me all sorts of ideas. I still remembered having my hands gliding over her sides and curves.

My attention was jerked back to Adan when I heard him again.

“Dead. Everyone that we had placed around to keep an eye on our ground by staying hidden. One of our board members as well.” He said. My ears perked up at the information.

“Our board members? Who?” I asked. Now getting curious and concerned at the same time.

“Oliver.” He told me.

“Oliver Scott?” James asked. He almost asked it out loud as he pulled his lips out to form words, but he caught himself before that. Disbelief was clear in his eyes and voice.

That information sent chills down my spine. Oliver Scott was not only a representative on the council of Alphas, but he was also one of our spies who gathered valuable information from people. With his colorful ways.

He was also important because he was our dad's alley but also the sole, closest and most trusted friend. He would do anything for our father and vice — versa from my dad.

“The situation is bad. And it's getting worse.” James exclaimed.

“Not as bad when you find out how they died.” Adan said. We walked out of the house and Linda started walking towards the work field. Adan stopped her with his words.

“Linda. Not there. You are called in the main room for board members.” He told her. For once, Linda's face flashed with an unmasked fear, but then she visibly forced herself to be calm. She nodded her head. Squaring her shoulders, she cleared her throat.

“Lead the way.” She told Adan. Her eyes glanced towards James and my way but she just as quickly looked away.

Was she ignoring us? I thought we were alright. Then what the hell happened, again?

I wanted to groan out of frustration.

Linda walked towards us and stopped a two feet away.

“You are officially being summoned, Linda. Make sure you think before you say anything. Trust me. This matter is too serious to be taken lightly. So please. Answer wisely to any question.” Adan told her. Linda looked conflicted but she nodded her head anyway.

We started walking again. This time Linda walked beside us.

My attention returned to Adan's words earlier.

“How did they die?” I asked.

“Melted silver.” Adan answered.

James and I exchanged looks with each other. The matter was not just serious.

It was damn bloody serious.

We walked through a narrow hallway which rounded around the corner. From there we took the stairs up until we reached the floor, then we walked into the hallway from where we could see the forest wide and clear. We walked until we stood in front of a big old wooden door that had a big sculpture of a fierce wolf. Its eyes were bright yellow which narrowed to a slit because it looked like he was growling. Its fangs were sharp like blades, and it looked more alive than dead.

I saw Linda halting on her steps. Taking sharp intake of breath when she saw it.

For a second she looked mesmerized, but then she snapped back into reality. Realizing where she stood and what laid was behind the closed doors. Anticipation, curiosity and pure, utter fear was visible on her face. She visibly shivered and rubbed her arms.

I took her hand in mine, making her look at me.

“I won't let anything happen to you. I know you didn't do anything and I promise that anyone who would do you harm will go through me first.” I said.

“Through Us.” James said as he came close and took Linda's left out hand.

“Mating don't only means sex, Linda. It meant that we had bared our souls for you. That any pain, any harm coming your, we will take it far before it touched you.” I told her. Linda stared in my eyes.

“And I know that we hurt you, baby. But please give us one last chance. We will fight by your side until our last breath. For better or worse.” James told her, looking straight into his eyes. We both pulled her hands to our mouth and kissed her.

Something shifted in her eyes and Linda's eyes teared, but then she did not let them fall. She took a deep breath. Nodding her head once, and she looked at us in the eyes.

“One last chance. Don't screw this one up, okay?” She said, and I grinned like I had won a lottery. I stroked her cheek.

“I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I didn't mean any of it.” I told her. Linda gave a brief smile before squeezing our hands.

“Stay by my side and don't leave me.” She said. James and I squeezed her hand in return.

“Always.” We said in unison.

“Let's do this then.” Linda said and Adan opened the door.
