Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Chapter Twenty — Four
James POV
“We found the guy who drugged your mate. But he is not the real culprit.” Logan told us. I let his words sink in before I straightened myself up.
“Where's he?” Michael and I growled out the words at the same time. Logan nodded his head out of the door.
“Follow me.” He said and both of us started to follow him.
“What did he say?” I asked him.
“Something, that would be better if you hear it directly from him, yourself.” He told us. I glanced at him. He looked serious enough. What did that bastard say?
Logan's words echoed in my head about him not being the real culprit. What did he mean by that? It was clearly him who pounced on Linda. I remembered clearly. That fucker was on top of Linda. His face was imprinted in my head like a tattoo.
The whole scene flashed in my memory.
My hands curled up in fists as rage shot through my veins. That guy was in for a surprise, for sure. Not a pleasant one though, I must add. My hands were legit itching for blood.
Logan led us outside the house. We rounded around the house and walked for around twenty minutes until we reached a hole in the ground.
It was a small hole that was only wide enough for one person to enter. It had steel stairs that led downstairs.
We stopped at the entrance and looked at each other. Then we heard a distant scream. That was coming from inside it. It was muffled a little though. Considering the fact that, it was coming from underground.
Logan rolled his shoulders before he dived inside it. Michael followed his suit. I followed right after him. I descended the steps until I hit the ground.
The air inside here was humid. It had a strange smell to it. Similar to a mixture of soil and fungus but not quite.
We walked straight from there. Ignoring all the surrounding chaos from different cells, until we reached the cell that we were looking for.
We all entered inside it one by one.
And I saw him.
Him.
As in the guy who I had just gotten a glimpse of when he jumped out of the window. He was strapped to a chair, looking pretty unscathed for my liking.
“You both are here. Good.” Dad's voice rang out. My snapped to where the voice came from. It was then when I noticed Dad. Standing in the corner with his hands behind his back. Looking angry. He nodded to the guy.
“James. Is this the person you saw when he jumped out of the window?” He asked.
I looked at the guy. From top to bottom. Scanning every inch of him. When my eyes fixated on his face, I nodded.
“Yes. He is the same guy.” I told him.
And before anyone could do anything, I moved. With long steps I reached him and punched him with as much as power I could muster. His nose broke with a crack, and he let out a painful yelp of cry.
“James!” Dad shouted in an angry voice. Michael pulled me back. Away from the now bloodied guy.
“Enough!” Dad yelled.
“Control yourself. And if you can't, then get out of here.” Dad barked at me.
“Not now, James. Maybe later. Control yourself.” Michael said out loud.
“We will have him ourselves later. Then you can gut him and let him bleed like a pig and no one would bat an eye on it. But not now.” Michael told me through a mind link. I calmed myself down and Michael let go of me. My wolf pounced inside me to let loose and kill this fucker who had tried to touch our mate.
“What's his name?” Michael asked.
“Jaby. He is the son of the beta from Black Root pack.” Logan answered. My brows shot up in surprise and Michael's as well.
“Then how did he escape the inspection?” I asked Logan . Turning to dad, I asked.
“You told us that you checked with every guest. Then how did he fool you?” I snapped.
“Language James. I am also your Alpha.” Dad snapped at me. It made me shut up.
“He hid in our land. Deciding to escape, once everything was settled here. He thought we would be looking outside for the intruder while he hid in our territory and rested while waiting for the dust to settle.” Logan explained in dad's place.
“So what did he say? Who is the real culprit?” Michael asked. Dad gave a look to Logan . Logan took the hint, nodded and moved out of the cell and disappeared. Finally, Dad looked at us.
“You both will find out. Where is your mate, anyway?” He asked. The taste in my mouth soured. Especially after our fight with Linda, in the morning. He must have seen the look on our faces because he became even more tense and his brows furrowed more.
“What happened?” Dad asked. Michael hesitated a little.
“Nothing serious.” He answered. My shoulders sagged in relief, a little. I had thought that he would tell the truth. Now was not the right time to mention our fight. The situation was as bad as it is.
“What do you mean by -” He stopped speaking as someone was thrown inside the cell? A figure of a female that I very well recognized.
Janet.
Logan entered after Janet. I looked between Logan, Janet and the guy. And the realization set in.
“Janet?” I whispered, not believing it.
“Janet? Janet asked him to do this?” Michael asked in an incredulous tone. I could not blame him. I was just as shocked as him. Janet moved and faced us while still staying on the floor.
“Yes. It's her. She asked me to do it.” The guy, Jaby, told us. I glared at Janet. A growl breaking out of me. My wolf roared loudly. It was not possible. How could she do it? What had happened? Why would she do something like this?
“Did you ask him to do it?” I asked her. She stared at me for a few seconds before answering.
“Yeah. I told him to do it.” She confessed. Now, I was angry. I was so, so angry.
“Tell us everything.” Michael commanded her.
