Chapter 80: Chapter 80
“HER!” Liam says this, pointing at someone, and I follow his hand.
It is pointing at this bitch. Her? Why, for God’s sake? She wronged him too, right? I throw a glance at Mitch. For once in our lifetime, we are sharing something in common: shock. Even she can not comprehend this move of Liam
“Okay, sir! Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, move, and don’t make us force you to move.” The officer said, but the lawyer stopped them first.
“Just a minute, officer.” The lawyer spoke as he grabbed the agreement folder from the floor. He handed it to Mr. Edward. “Sign this before you leave. It’s simply terminating your partnership with him. All of your shady companies will cease operation from this moment, and all your money in the bank accounts will be distributed equally to the companies that you have scammed.” The lawyer explained.
"What if I am left with nothing? Not even a single penny for my daughter to inherit? Or even hire me a lawyer?” Mr. Edward roars.
“Well, I didn’t want you to get a lawyer and waste my time with stupid hearings. I didn’t also want you to get a shorter sentence, so I made sure you were left penniless. As for your daughter, she is working, so I believe she will be just fine.” Liam explains.
“Screw you, Liam Morgan Adam!” He hisses as he stamps his signature on the documents.
My! The future is about killing me. But I am blocking it somehow until I know why Liam had to save this bitch’s ass.
“We will be on our way, Liam. Thank you for the job well done. The nation is less than one fraud, all thanks to you. We will make sure he will never see sniff freedom again.” The officer says this as they drag the two people away.
“Curse you, bastard!” Mr. Edwards curses as he walks.
“Have a nice stay in hell, Mr. Edwards!” Liam retorts.
Funny how the two didn’t even say anything to their daughter as they walked away. What kind of parents are they? Even her daughter does not seem worried at all that this is how they are partying.
Another loud clap startles Liam. Again, a strange face walks in. Actually, it's not strange. I know this is the son of a bitch. It is that guy who made Liam and me participate in that stupid truth-or-dare game, all in a prank to expose us. What the hell is he doing here?
“Joel?” There is no way in hell I can forget this man’s name. He was weird at that party. What the hell is he doing here, and how does Liam know him to even summon him here?
"What are you doing here, Joe?” Mitch asks in confusion as she walks to him.
“I looked for him.” Liam starts. “I know all there is between you and him. I don’t know if you really know the meaning of love, Mitchell, but this man loves you more than he loves himself. That day, your plan was different, but he did what he did just for love—to make you see that you cannot stand between two people who love each other.” Liam takes a break from the long sermon.
“That is true, Mitch. I have told you time and again, and I have shown you just how much I care for and love you. You know that, don’t you?” Joe asks.
“I could have thrown you to jail together with your parents if I wanted to, because truth be told, you are as guilty as them. I just felt pity for you to waste all your years in prison. I wanted to think that maybe you did not agree with your parents using you like this. You don’t deserve this given how you have treated me in this house, but I am risking all by giving you this chance to revive yourself. You have a bright future ahead if you choose the right path. I am handing you over to Joel. Whether you want to value what he genuinely has to offer and be happy for once in your life or throw it all away like you are used to doing, it is entirely your choice. For now, pack your bags and everything that has your mark on it; leave and forget that we ever met or that you once lived in this house.” Liam states.
Mitch’s face is soaked wet.
I was moved too. I definitely could have thought that Liam could have come up with such a wise decision. She does not deserve it, true, but maybe, just maybe, she can change?
She hikes towards Liam with arms wide open as she burst into tears, but Liam stops her. He pushes her away. “Don’t misinterpret my gesture, Mitchell. Giving you a chance does not mean that we are okay or that I have forgotten all that you have done. One more thing: don’t try to help your parents or do something fishy, because I will not think twice about reuniting you with them in jail. Now get out before I change my mind.” Liam states.
She nods her head. “I know. I promise that... I will not regret giving you this opportunity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. And Lynda." She turns to me as she clears her vision. “I bow. You have won. You have always won. And thank you. These scars that you have given me will serve a great purpose in my life. They have taught me how to be responsible and accountable, something that my own parents didn’t teach me. Thank you, and sorry."
Ooh, wow! She learned, huh? Does she have to wait the hard way?
Just like Liam, I have neither cordial words for her nor affection to show her. I don’t even nod at her. She takes the divorce papers, signs them, and hands Liam a copy that remains with hers. “I wish you both nothing but happiness. And don’t tell your child that a creature like me ever existed. Excuse me.” She says this and walks upstairs to gather her belongings.
Huuu! Can we rest now? Finally! Peace, peace, peace, at last! What a….
“Mario?” Liam called, cutting my inner glee short. Who the heck is Markario, Marko, or whoever he called? A voice answers from outside the door. “Bring him in.” He orders.
Who is it this time around, for goodness sake? I am so tired of this. Mu Babay has heard too much. I was about to recline on the couch, but I find myself springing to my feet when a very familiar, unnerving face pops inside.
I felt all the anger and hate that I had been concealing rise. “What the hell is this man doing here?” I ask as he racks before me, head hunched down. He looks worse than the last time I saw him. Where the heck did he come from, and how did he find me? “Look me straight in the face, Father, and tell me how you can show your face to me after everything that you did.” I howl.
“He was the man who was staying at your house. Only that I didn’t know it was him.” Liam says, sounding sorry and shocked. “I am sorry, Lynn. I wouldn’t have brought him here if I knew it was him. He does not deserve it.
“He deserves nothing. A cowardly and heartless being like him deserves nothing at all.” I state, and finally, the man who left me to care for my mother, the man who did not even show up at my mother’s funeral, the same man who did not care to find out how I survived after mom left, has the guts to face me.
“I am so sorry, my child. Please forgive me.”
Forgive? Only God can do that.
“I don’t need your sorry, and I am not your daughter. If your sorry could take away all the pain that you caused me, I would have taken it, but it can't. I want you gone from that house, and don’t ever show your face there or to me again. You lost all your rights to me and that home when you abandoned your responsibilities as a husband and a father. Go back to where you have been. You have until tonight to pack up and vanish.” I state.
“But, dear, I have nowhere else to go. I also know that I messed up, but I am here to make up for that. I can still be a father to you. You are even expecting my"
“Dont….” I cut him off. “I don’t need you, and neither does my child. Get lost in my life. And don’t you worry; I will be giving you a small monthly allowance for your upkeep. Unlike you, I am responsible. Take this man away.” I saw, and the man started dragging my father away. “Take it easy on him.” I howl behind them as Mitch and Joel join them at the door as they leave.
Sometimes, forgiveness is heard. And we do not need to act up or fake anything just to make others feel better.
As I watch my father go and Mitch, as I reminisce about how all this started, I just realize that problems and challenges don’t necessarily have to break you. They can make you stronger. As I look back on this journey, I don’t regret at all what I did or why I chose this—because for love, no risk is too much to take. And now, it is us—me, Liam, our baby, and the rest—that the heavens will bless us with, and his family to the end of the world. I would say this over and over again and again for the great love of my life, Liam Morgan Adams.
“Weldone, son! This calls for a cessation. We need to at least welcome our authentic daughter-in-law, the apple of your eye, in style. What do you say, son? We, as your parents, have a lot to make up for.” Liam’s father says
Liam looks at them. "That will have to wait, Father! We have had a hectic time with Lynn in this house, and today was the climax. We need a breather. Even our babies do.”
I snap at him. What is he saying?
“We are going away to clear our minds and take a break from all this. You both have the entire company to take care of, so you won't be bored. We will see you after six months!”
Six what? “What? Where are we going?” I asked this crazy husband of mine.
“Dubai!”
Hello? What kind of joke is this one? “I don’t have a passport. I…”
He pulls two passports from his jeans, shutting me up. He got me a passport. It seems like he had planned this. My! Even our baby is thrilled! “Any other excuse?” He teases. I shake my head. He smiles and turns to his parents. “I hope there won't be any other mess for me to clean up when I return. I will still be available on the phone for anything you might need.” He says.
“Never again, son! Take all the time you need. You both deserve it!” His father says:
“I will miss you, son. Lynda, I will be shopping for that child until you come back. You both enjoy yourselves.” His mother says as she pulls all for a family hug.
Mmh! This feels like home! Perfect home!
