Chapter 69: Chapter 69

“Look, Liam. This is not the right way. All that I am asking is...

“I know what you want, Lynn. You don’t need to say it. You deserve more respect than anyone. I know how hard it was for you to agree to do this for me. I know how much you held back your feelings for me because you respected my marriage and didn't want to break it. Nobody knows your worth more than I do, and I will make them all know how much you mean to me.” He says this, taking my breath away.

For a long moment, all I manage to do is just stare at him, wondering whether he knows the intensity of what he is insinuating. “And the consequences, Liam? Are you ready to face them?” I ask because, in a way, I also want them to know who I really am to him. We know that our love never died and is now rekindled, and we are not letting it go.

“Nothing will go wrong; trust me, love. And besides, whatever is bound to happen will happen in the end, no matter what we do. Let us just end this, love.” He says.

I think this time around, he has gone completely nuts. How can he be so serious about this?

“You are not thinking straight, Liam. This is a hasty decision. You might regret it later. Please think it over carefully.” I plead.

“I have made up my mind. There is nothing to think about.” He states, sounding serious. It does not seem like he is changing his mind.

“I would listen to your surrogate mother if I were you, Liam!”

We both snap to the voice of his mother. We didn’t even have to look further, as she stood right in front of us in a minute with this she-dog beside her. I see they are done planning our downfall. And what bad timing before I could speak some sense to Liam!

“Now that you both are here and since you are so good at calling for meetings, I would like you, dear wife, to call for an urgent family meeting at dinner tonight!”

Shoot! Tonight? As in, he wants to reveal the truth tonight itself?

Both Mitch and Liam’s mother are thunderstruck. I can’t say that I am not too, but at least I had a clue that he would do something like this. Only that, I didn’t speculate that he would be this crazy to do it tonight.

“A meeting?” Mitch asks while still battling with dismay.

“And with such urgency? What is going on, son?” His mother is the most confused of the three of us.

I guess she would be so happy to know that Liam wants us to confess our sins. That way, she will not have a hard time or even move a muscle to keep watch on us, waiting for us to make a mistake. I believe this will be their auspicious night. They will probably sleep with their boots on tonight. And Liam and I? Our fate will be decided tonight. What will become of us?

“You will know all about it tonight. Just call your husband, Mother. Everyone should be here by seven.” With that, he turns around with me in his arms, taking me with him as we leave these two confused beings, or so I thought until his mother grabs my hand.

We stop, turning to her. “I want to speak to this woman!” She says it in a tone that I don’t like.

“No! Whatever you have to say, mother, wait until tonight.” Liam affirms.

“And I say no! She and I need to talk. It is just a simple talk, Liam. That is all I ask.” His mother pleads if this at all can be called pleading. It is more of a demand.

“No. If you had anything important to tell us, you should have done it before going behind our backs and conniving with these people. Lynn is talking to no one!” Liam says.

“Why are you speaking on her behalf, huh? I don’t think the lady has any problem speaking to me, son. Right, Lynda? I don’t bite, you know.” She says this, looking at me.

I cannot describe this look of hers. I can’t quite explain what aura she is bleeding, but I don’t like it. It is giving me bad chills. I don’t like it at all. But I accept her challenge. Maybe it’s high time we talk woman-to-woman and face-to-face. It is high time that we face each other.

“I said…”

“I will talk to her, Liam!” I cut him off, pressing his hand more tightly to let him know that I could handle this.

“No, Lynn. I won’t allow that!” He insists.

I turn to him. “Come on, Liam. I don’t think your mother has it in her to hurt a woman who is carrying her first grandchild, right, mother?” I challenge him, throwing his mother a side glance.

“I already said that we were just going to talk. We will be done before you even realize she isn’t in your sight, son!” She speaks, looking at me.

“You heard your mother, Liam. I doubt she is that bold to lie to her son. Please leave us. I will be fine.” I state, still maintaining her gaze.

Liam faces her mother fully, making her avert her gaze from me as she gives her all to her daring son. “Make sure that you are being sincere here, Mrs. Adams! Because if I find out that you have insulted her even just once or offended her even in the slightest way, you can forget that you ever had a son!"

After making his point crystal clear and making sure it has sunk into his mother’s skull, he turns to me. “I will be waiting inside. And if you can’t take her dialogue, feel free to walk out.” And with that, he storms out and takes big steps toward the mansion.

“Di you see that mother? They are so…”

“Give us some privacy, Mitchell. I will be with you in a minute.” Liam’s mother cuts her off, sending her away. She furiously taps her feet on the tiles and walks out, leaving Liam’s mother almost murdering me with her scornful glares.
