Chapter 34: Chapter 34

“What is the point, Mitch? No matter what we tell you, you have already drawn your judgment.” I fire back, gallantly, like we are ashamed of her accusations.

“Because I am no fool! You both reek of sex and everything that immorality depicts! I cannot be wrong about this, and you both know that I am right!” She barks as if howling to the high heavens.

“Instincts, Mitch! Just vacuous allegations! Those are mere speculations! You got any physical proof to corroborate that we are lovers?” I challenged her, and now she is really fuming. I bet her palms are about to start bleeding from the way her nails are digging into the poor skin. Poor Mitch! “What now, Mitch? You want to slap me again? By all means, feel free to slap my right cheek as well. That way, I will have more proof of your assaults!” I dare her.

She smacks the pot of chicken soup off the table. The earsplitting racket of the pot impinging on the floor echoes throughout the whole house as Liam and I leap to obviate the rain shower of soup and the scattering pieces of chicken. What was supposed to be our supper now scatters on the floor. Before us is a raging lioness. Defeat hurts, huh?

“Pray to your Gods that your secrets stay in the deep depths in which you have buried them, you fools! Because the moment I unearth even just a little bit of them, I will expose you to the world! You will both curse the day you decided to take me for a fool!” She fumes and turns around, howling the name of the housekeeper like a maniac.

What has the poor housekeeper done now?

“Yes, madam!” Serah responds, stopping a few steps in front of her enraged boss, head hunched down.

“Clean that mess up. Clean this whole house because it stinks so much! I am suffocating!” She howls.

“Yes, madam!” Serah responds, starting to hike to maybe get a mop and a bucket.

“And, Serah?” Mitch stops her.

She turns around. “Yes, madam?” Serah says.

“Who got you this job?” Mitch queries.

“You did, madam!’ Serah responds like a servant to her master.

“Good. So, you acknowledge me as your boss, right?”

Huh? She is being too... Where is she going with all this unnecessary drama?

“Y…Y…es, madam!” Serah stammers after throwing a pleading look at Liam, perhaps asking him to understand her situation.

“Good! From now on, you do what only I say if you do not want to say goodbye to this job. You do not want your children to go back to the slums where I found you when I decided to hire you, do you?”

Sha! This woman is quite a blackmailer! Why blackmail the poor woman like this?

“No, madam! This job means everything to me and my family. I would not do anything that would compromise it.” Serah says, shaking her head to emphasize her point. Poor woman!

“Good! I am glad that you know that without me, you are nothing. Now listen carefully.” She shifts as she prepares to presumably release a bomb. “From this minute on, you will only serve me alone in this house. You see those two disgusting faces over there?” Serah nods her head without looking at us. Mitch continues. “Do not serve them even just a cup of water, and do not include them in any of the meals you will make in this house! Do I make myself clear?”

I throw a quick glance at Liam as shock gushes over my face.

This witch cannot be this cruel, can she?

Liam is flat. Emotionless. It’s like this is not news to him at all. He anticipated that this would happen. Well, I didn't! I did not think that this bitch would go this far! To think that I am starving right now!

“Yes, madam!” Serah states, summoning my attention back to them.

“Good! And for that, I am doubling your pay. But don't you even think of betraying me, Serah, because you will not stand my wrath!” Mitch says, throwing Liam and me a look that says, “I have just begun”.

“I will do anything for you, madam. I will not fail you.” Serah says she is afraid of looking our way.

“Good. You can go now and start the cleaning.” Mitch says, and Serah leaves, while we both are left staring at the bossy witch in awe.

Well, the stare does not last for long, as she also sways her hips up the stairs after making her point clear with her eyes.

Holy shit! It is around eight in the evening right now, and my stomach is beginning to grumble. How am I supposed to sleep like this? And even if I manage to bear the starvation tonight, how will Liam and I survive in this house from now on?

And why is he so dead quiet?
