Chapter 516: Chapter 516

After thinking it over for a moment, Lu Ran finally sent out his familiar. A huge summoning diagram appeared in front of him, and from it, a cat-shaped cloud appeared. Its body was entirely white, and behind it, nine tails waved in the air.

"Finally, he sent out a real familiar!"

Everyone was sure that this cat was unlike the shield that took the stage before it, and was one of Lu Ran’s actual familiars. Based on the intel available in Stellar Moon, this was Lu Ran’s ace familiar.

Once it put on its equipment, the Nine-Tailed Cloud Cat would reach the Quasi-Legendary rank. However, unlike the rumors, it was already a Quasi-Legendary without equipping anything. This somewhat caught the audience off guard. Counting the shield from earlier, this meant that Lu Ran had two Quasi-Legendaries!

"You still won’t go all out?" Bai Lu pouted when she saw that Lu Ran was still holding back by not sending out his Legendary familiar.

"It's enough." Lu Ran chuckled.

Baby Cloud’s body gradually swelled until it was the same size as the Divine Deer phantom, and nine huge energy bombs condensed on each of its tails. With a strong swish of its tail, the bombs hurtled towards its opponent, signalling the beginning of the fight.

Each bomb quickly expanded to the size of the phantom. Despite their size, they were composed of highly condensed energy, so the crowd couldn't help but feel worried for Bai Lu. The cloud cat was clearly no pushover.

The attack finally landed. Violent turbulence instantly covered the stage. If the spectating area weren’t protected by Limitless City, the blast would have blown away the entire audience.

Although the Star Splitting Sword Intent, Flame Spirit, and dragon aura were all powerful techniques, they still couldn’t compare to the devastation caused by this onslaught.

As the dust settled, people could see that despite being heavily damaged, the phantom remained standing. Its terrifying life force only needed a second to heal itself. It was as good as new in no time. Bai Lu and her familiars didn’t have a scratch on them.

"I told you that it would be useless. You shouldn’t underestimate us!" Bai Lu proudly declared.

This was shocking even to her fans.

How could she not be injured at all? She was unlike any of the previous contestants.

This made the Stellar Moon audience even more excited.

"Ms. Bai Lu is so awesome!"

"The nine-attribute bombs attack has to be his finishing move, but his damage still can’t keep up with the phantom’s healing speed. It’s over for him."

"If this goes on, then that cloud will die from exhaustion before it can deal any real damage. The phantom’s regeneration abilities are god-tier!"

"Lu Ran’s only option is to call out two more familiars and have them attack together. Even if he wins, he will still be heavily exhausted."

Bai Lu shared many of the same thoughts as the audience.

"You can stop struggling. You’ll never beat me with just one familiar, no matter how hard you try."

Bai Lu’s words gave her teammates some comfort. Lu Ran was finally starting to feel the heat. The Divine Deer messenger was no joke, so why was she being so modest earlier?

Unfortunately, upon closer observation, Lu Ran didn’t panic in the slightest. In fact, he was incredibly calm. His expression hasn’t changed at all since he initially summoned his familiar.

"I see." With a wave of his hand, a flaming sword appeared in his hand. "I admit that the phantom’s vitality is boundless. An average opponent would be helpless against you. Too bad I’m not your average opponent. I have my reasons for sending out only one familiar. It’s not that hard to beat the regeneration ability. I just need to up our attack speed."

Lu Ran looked up a little. Earlier, he was just testing the phantom’s recovery speed because he didn’t want to go all out on their first attack. It would've been fine if it were someone else, but it would’ve been bad if he accidentally killed a friend. He would never be able to shake the guilt. Bai Lu's expression changed as she had a bad premonition.

"What?" ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ novelFɪre.net

Lu Ran's set off a huge commotion.

He wants to compensate for the damage with speed? Is he dreaming?

The cloud just unleashed its ultimate move. The complexity alone was enough to prevent rapid firing, not to mention the energy consumption. What was Lu Ran really planning to do?

"Are you going to use Time Acceleration?" Bai Lu suddenly remembered something.

That can’t be right. Even with Time Acceleration, the energy consumption will still be too high.

"Nope. It’d be a cop out if I have to help. Baby Cloud doesn’t need any kind of equipment or beastmaster skill," Lu Ran bragged with a snap of his fingers.

Before anyone could react, Baby Cloud bared its teeth at the phantom and burst into action.

Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish!

In less than a second, dozens of Nine Attribute Bombs that were just as big as before appeared and blotted out the sky. They looked like stars lighting up the night sky. The shocking scene left everyone speechless.

Bai Lu and the Divine Deer phantom stared into the air in horror. Those bombs were seconds away from hitting them. No matter how strong the phantom’s regeneration ability was, it still wouldn’t be able to keep up.

With a flash, the relentless bombardment tore the phantom to pieces.

"Is Ms. Bai ok?" Several concerned shouts sounded.

When the barrage finally ended, a disheveled Bai Lu reappeared on the stage in a half-kneeling position. Her familiars were in a similarly miserable state following the destruction of the phantom.

Despite her outward appearance, Bai Lu lived up to her title as one of the strongest beastmasters of Stellar Moon. She still hadn’t admitted defeat, but Lu Ran was waiting for her with a flaming sword. He had closed in by the time she noticed.

Bai Lu looked at Lu Ran with an aggrieved expression.

He’s an animal! Forget the flower, I didn’t even see the dog. I got beaten up by a cat! Whatever. He’s the rest of the team’s problem now.

The attack had also completely exhausted Baby Cloud, who shrank back down to the size of a palm. It wiped the condensation off its brow and gave its opponent one last glance.

Guess Divine Deer messengers aren’t all that.

Even after a long time, the crowd was still speechless. Reality was just too hard to accept.

We lost again? Again?

That cat just now didn’t take any time to charge up its attack!

The only thing more outrageous than the outcome was Lu Ran’s score from winning.

[Winner: Pedestrian A]

The Stellar Moon audience couldn’t accept the announcement. He only got an S when he sent out a kin, but now that he sent out a familiar, he got an SS? Was he right when he guessed that the score correlated with how strong the opponent was? Their guess was quickly confirmed.

[Scoring Reason 1: Pedestrian A defeated the messenger of the Low-Legendary Divine Deer!]

Limitless City revealed Bai Lu’s hidden identity. Many people knew her as the strongest healer, and her identity as the Divine Deer’s messenger wasn’t publicly known. This made the Broken Horn of the Divine Deer make a lot more sense.

The confusing thing was that Limitless City revealed Bai Lu as a messenger, but didn’t say anything about Battle God, who was also supposedly a messenger. Was his identity not official? That could be the case since Bai Lu was clearly stronger, but she still lost in the end.

Citizens of Stellar Moon just couldn’t come to terms with reality.

"She’s the Divine Deer’s messenger?"

People from the Lu Village were elated by Lu Ran’s victory, but were a little confused by the revelation. Their village worshipped the Divine Deer for generations, and Lu Ran was publicly known as its messenger.

"Maybe it’s a creature that shares the same name? Compared to ours, Stellar Moon’s Divine Deer seems weak. Our messengers are leagues apart." Pig Farmer laughed.

[Scoring Reason 2: Pedestrian A achieved victory in a 1v3 situation.]

[Scoring Reason 3: The Nine-tailed Cloud Cat perfectly integrated the Time attribute into nine elemental attributes to create instant fire attacks.]

The system continued announcing reasons for Lu Ran’s score, and the silence that hung over the crowd persisted. Everyone believed that Bai Lu was stronger than the previous contestants, but she lost despite outnumbering the enemy. If the messenger of the Divine Deer couldn’t beat him, then what did it take?

The only good news was that Lu Ran’s familiar was visibly exhausted. The victory obviously came at a cost.

Lu Ran saw that he had finally gotten the SS rating and confirmed his theory about scores correlating with his opponent’s power. He couldn’t farm points by just trampling on people weaker than him. He couldn't help but slowly turn his gaze toward Death Gun, who found his gaze extremely off-putting.

Damn it. Why does Limitless City announce the identity of the loser? If I lose and make the Underworld God look bad, it will kill me once it hears about it.

Death Gun’s biggest concern was actually Lu Ran sending out #18. He wouldn’t lose to just one mechanical angel, right? No way!
