Chapter 469: Chapter 469

With a single thought, Star Splitting Sword Intent pierced through the void and a quasi-Legendary void snake off in the distance was instantly beheaded. Once it died, Space energy flowed through the void back to Captain Doofus.

More slashes of sword intent soon followed, and each took the life of a powerful void beast. Captain Doofus was able to quickly accumulate a large amount of Space energy. The more important aspect was that in its current state, Captain Doofus’ proficiency with the Star Splitting Sword Intent rapidly increased.

Somewhere else in the void, a black-haired girl was fighting a void beast with her quasi-Legendary familiar. In the middle of their battle, all three of them sensed a terrifying, life-threatening power coming from deep within the void.

Before her eyes, a ray of sword intent cut apart the void beast she was fighting before dissipating. Everything happened in the blink of an eye, but it was enough to make her sweat profusely as if she just walked through the valley of death. She didn’t even have enough time to crush the stone the Void God gave her. Even her level 70 quasi-Legendary familiar wasn’t enough to resist that single ray of sword intent.

Where did that attack come from?

What surprised her even more was that the void beast corpse soon emitted Space energy that flew off in the direction the sword intent came from.

Isn’t this the ability from the Void Hunter talent? I thought I was the only one to have it?

She looked in the direction that the Space energy flew off in and followed it, hoping to find its destination.

Back in the forbidden area, with the power of the Void Grass, Captain Doofus felt that its power was about to reach the pinnacle after just a dozen or so minutes. It was about to achieve the same level as the Void Grass and Dark Crow, being able to kill enemies across vast distances. It also felt that its domain was also reaching another level. It was now big enough to encompass an entire city!

A single slash from it could destroy an entire city. This was the true power of a quasi-Legendary! It was previously quite adept with the Space attribute but it was now on a completely different level.

"This should be enough," the Void Grass said as it left Captain Doofus’s body.

"Thank you." Lu Ran finally spoke up and expressed his gratitude.

Although it was doing a favor for Six-Path Flower, Captain Doofus really benefited this time. Besides comprehending the Star Splitting Sword Intent, the hunt just now saved them multiple days of grinding.

The Void Grass didn’t respond. After passing the sword intent onto the swordgrass and helping Captain Doofus kill so many void beasts, it had expended so much energy that it was on the verge of dissipating.

The ethereal form was bound to fade away eventually—either once it completed its unfinished business or exhausted all of its energy. It was essentially a type of energy clone that could exist even after the main body died.

As they watched the Void Grass slowly fade away, Lu Ran said to Six-Path Flower, “Don’t be too sad. You were able to revive through Limitless City, so perhaps the Void Grass will have a similar opportunity in the future.”

"I am not sad, but I am now more determined to kill the Chaos Dragon God. The Void Grass helped us so that plant life could achieve the final victory in the war against that dragon.”

In reality, the one who was the most sad over the Void Grass disappearing was the swordgrass who was weeping loudly.

Lu Ran felt a headache coming so he quickly said, "We should start the evolution."

Something that the Void Grass said before disappearing stuck with him. It told him that Captain Doofus should evolve right there in the forbidden area. There was still some Star Splitting Sword Intent lingering in the void that could be absorbed during the evolution process. With Captain Doofus’ comprehension, it should be able to improve its skills to another level. Evolution was the best time to comprehend new abilities so it could definitely reach a deeper understanding of the Star Splitting Sword Intent.

Once he gave Captain Doofus the Wind God's Heart, everything was in place. The opportune time for evolution was at hand.

Manager Ying knew that it made the right decision when it decided to tag alone. They were originally there to get special training from the Void God, but ended up receiving an opportunity from the Void Grass along the way. The best part was that the Void Grass at one point was even stronger than the Void God! At this point, Lu Ran wasn’t just the favorite child of Limitless City. He was the favorite child of the universe!

Captain Doofus felt that everything was a bit rushed, but seeing Captain Lu’s enthusiasm, it couldn’t help getting excited as well. It ate the heart in one bite and the four attributes inside its body began churning.

At first, the Void Hunter talent made its Space attribute overpower its Wind, but the Wind God's Heart was able to remedy the situation. White Wind energy seeped out of its body and with its high proficiency, it rapidly integrated its Ice attribute into it. The Wind energy took on an ice-blue color as a result.

The change was reflected on its contract card.

[Attribute: Wind (Ice), Space, Light]

Captain Doofus was integrating its attributes even faster than Dark Crow did with help from Ghost Mother! The energy surrounding it suddenly gleamed with dazzling light and another change appeared on the contract card.

[Attribute: Wind (Ice, Light), Space]

Now that two of the attributes were integrated, Captain Doofus could feel that its Wind power had become significantly stronger. Its Wind energy was able to move so fast that it approached the speed of light. With a single huff, the entire forbidden area became a land of ice and snow. Its power was apparent but there was still room for improvement. The final and strongest Space attribute was still remaining.

It could sense that integrating the Wind and Space attributes within itself was particularly difficult. The Wind energy enveloping Captain Doofus started to lose its color and became increasingly translucent.

A Wind sword materialized in Captain Doofus’ mouth and it gave the sword a few swings. Each swing tore apart the space in the sword’s path, creating a spatial tear that led to the spatial turbulence region. Captain Doofus could now create stable wormholes!

Seeing the new development, Lu Ran took a deep breath.

Is this Legendary-tier Wind-attribute power? The spatial turbulence region is a well known danger zone that’s fatal even for Epic-Legendary beastmasters!

Dark Crow felt the powerful energy fluctuation radiating off of Captain Dooufs.

Sudden Death King let out a roar of defiance.

This still isn’t enough to beat me, but it doesn’t look is over...

"So powerful!” Six-Path Flower couldn’t help but give it some praise.

It had only integrated its attributes. Without evolving, its species rank already increased.

[Species: Sword Domain Dog]

[Attribute: Wind (Space, Ice, Light)]

[Species Rank: quasi-Legendary]

It was on the brink of becoming a Low Legendary. This was quite the accomplishment, but Lu Ran couldn’t help but worry. The Wind sword in Captain Doofus’s mouth didn’t trigger the effects of Sword Sovereign. If it did, it would be a Low Legendary rank already.

"It must be because its species rank has outpaced the talent’s rank," Lu Ran analyzed.

Sword Sovereign was its first species talent that it awakened at level 10. Captain Doofus was bound to outgrow it one day. It was clear that the talent was limited to below the Legendary Rank. Now that he thought about it, if the talent worked while Captain Doofus held a sword as a Superior Legendary, then wouldn’t it have the power of a Primary Divine? That would clearly be a game breaker.

Once he thought it through, he felt a lot better. None of it mattered anyways once Captain Doofus evolved and all of its skills were upgraded. There was bound to be a new iteration of the Sword Sovereign talent.

"Captain Doofus!" Lu Ran called out as he threw out the trait crystal he prepared.

[Trait Crystal (Equivalent Exchange): The user can establish a personal covenant, permanently sacrificing certain abilities in exchange for permanently enhancing another ability. The greater the sacrifice, the stronger the enhancement.]

Lu Ran had Captain Doofus sacrifice all of its attributes to boost its attainments in the sword. Attributes were undeniably useful, but all of Captain Doofus’ skills were centered around swords. Its sword intents far outstripped anything its attributes brought to the table. Its kin and species talent also fell into the same theme. Even Lu Ran’s Super Beast Mimicry was used to augment its sword skills.

Its attributes only played a supporting role. It made more sense for its main attribute to be something sword related. With its comprehension and sword intent, it could still perform attributed attacks without the attribute themselves. It was just like how it comprehended the Blizzard Sword Intent without the Ice attribute and the intent infused its attacks with Wind and Ice energy. The sword intents compensated for the lack of attributes and its attack power wouldn’t suffer in the slightest.

Its core skills were bound to make significant improvements, and perhaps gain new Legendary-ranked talents. Its attribute power had reached the pinnacle and with the Equivalent Exchange trait, it should be able to obtain a more specialized ability.

Terrifying sword intent fluctuations soon radiated from its body and compounded with the energy from its evolution. All of the attribute energy around its body disappeared, replaced by sword energy that engulfed its entire body. The attributeless sword energy pierced through the void, traversing a vast distance in an instant.

Each of its skills underwent their own individual changes as well. Its Sword Sovereign talent took on a new form as expected.

[Species Talent: Sword God (When using a sword, the familiar can transcend levels and automatically become a Sword God. Depending on the grade and number of swords it has, the familiar’s species rank can be increased to Legendary.)]

Just as he predicted, Captain Doofus’ abilities underwent a qualitative change. Not only could it now reach the Legendary rank, but the new species talent granted a buff based on the number of swords wielded—not just the grade. Its three-sword style was no longer just for show!

Sword light shot out from Captain Doofus’ body and into the sky. The sword energy that manifested was like a force of nature. The blinding light shook the void, and the Star Splitting Sword Intent surrounding them hummed as if it encountered a deity. Captain Doofus seemingly developed the ability to absorb sword intent which it demonstrated by soaking up all of it that was nearby. This allowed its strength to rise once again.

A vortex of sword intent gathered, spanning 30,000 miles and forming a vast sword domain. Unlike Dark Crow and Sudden Death King’s evolution, Captain Doofus’ evolution was particularly dramatic, much like Six-Path Flower’s. This was a sign that it was about to reach the Legendary rank. Previously, it hovered in quasi-Legendary because of the Legendary Wind Seed, but Equivalent Exchange gave it the final push over the threshold. Quality over quantity proved to be the correct philosophy.
