Chapter 60: Chapter 60
~Aurelia Storm~
"WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!" suddenly shouted a naked, muscular man who emerged from the forest covered in blood.
I assumed he was one of the guards and was just in wolf form since he was naked. But what was he talking about? What attack?
Arsen immediately tensed in front of me and pushed me protectively behind him. The man came to a halt in front of Arsen and bowed.
"The rogues have breached our eastern border. You're coming here." He said.
"Why didn't you stop them?" Arsen's voice sounded angry.
"We've tried, Alpha, but there are just too many. It seemed like a large crowd of them had banded together."
"FUCK!" Arsen yelled. The fact that he was so tense now scared me. The situation was beyond serious.
"Gather together the rest of the warriors. Also, I need every wolf over 18 strong enough to fight." Arsen gave more orders, but I was too shaken up to notice any more.
"War," was the only word I caught. Arsen turned to me. I could see him moving his lips and saying something to me, but I couldn't hear it. Eventually he put his lips to my forehead.
Then he broke away from me again and turned into his wolf. He stormed off just as a strange wolf jumped out of the bushes. He grabbed him by the neck and spun him around.
Only now did the noise in my ears stop and I came to. More and more of the enemy wolves charged towards us through the bushes.
One of the warriors—his name was Shawn—appeared next to me and grabbed my upper arm.
"Come Luna! We have to get you to safety."
I went with him voluntarily, because last time I almost experienced how that could end for a person. Arsenic can do it, I kept encouraging myself.
Unfortunately we didn't get very far. A wolf jumped at Shawn from the side and bit his neck. As he jerked his jaws back and Shawn's throat with it, I screamed. The wolf fixed on me. Then suddenly his bones cracked as he transformed back.
He was a thin man with tousled brown curls. As he fixed me with his empty yellow eyes again, he started grinning at me with a creepy grin.
"Look who we got there? Not the Luna?" The medium-sized creepy man kept walking towards me, still grinning perversely.
I took a few steps back and hit an obstacle with my lower back. Moving my head to the side to see what's holding me up, I realized it's the buffet.
Luckily there were some knives here. I quickly grabbed one, then pointed it menacingly at the man in front of me.
"Stay away!" I threatened him, trying not to sound like a weak human girl.
"Geez. Now I'm scared," he said in a wry tone. Then he started laughing. "You little human don't really think you can kill me with that, do you?"
"Yes, and I won't hesitate to do it."
The man in front of me laughed again.
"My name is Clinton."
"Why are you telling me that?" My voice wasn't sounding so brave anymore. But that was because he kept walking towards me.
"I want you to know the name of your killer."
I widened my eyes in disbelief. Then I looked around for arsenic. He certainly wouldn't let me out of his sight. Unless he thinks I'm safe.
I look again at Shawn's lifeless body and swallow.
Clinton wanted to jump at me again. But at that moment, Arsenic's black wolf jumped in front of me and growled menacingly.
"Shit," I heard from Clinton's direction. He doubled over and there was the sound of bones breaking again. He didn't get very far, because in the middle of the transformation arsenic jumped at his throat.
I closed my eyes as blood spurted out of his throat. When I opened them again, Arsen's naked form stood in front of me. It all just happened so incredibly fast.
"Fuck, Aurelia. Are you all right?"
I nodded. Still, tears welled up in my eyes. I was clearly not cut out for this life. My eyes went back to Shawn's body. Arsen head turned to him.
"Fuck, Shawn." I felt the sadness in him too. "He was a good warrior and he died for his Luna."
I sob as I think that he's dead now because of me. If I hadn't distracted him, he would certainly have seen the attacker.
"Hey it's not your fault." He tried to calm me down.
Another snarl appeared next to us and a large silver wolf with cold yellow eyes appeared.
Arsenic pushed me behind him.
"Don't move!" he ordered me.
Then he started to transform. I was afraid that the other wolf would take advantage of this brief moment of weakness. And rightly so.
The other wolf rushed towards us.
"Arsenic!" I screamed in shock. Luckily at that moment Costa's light brown wolf jumped at him from the side and stopped him Silvers and fought alongside Costa.
I exhaled, relieved that Arsen had support. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath.
I watched the wolves fight. In the end I couldn't do more. Also, Arsen ordered me not to move. He would surely take me away from here in a moment.
My gaze swept around. Wolves fought with other wolves, biting at each other, clawing over their bodies and ripping out their throats. Then my eyes met a cappuchino-colored wolf with ice-blue eyes. He lay beneath an enemy reddish wolf, trying to dodge its deadly bite.
The courage in me came back. My hand clutched the knife I was still holding, and I ran to Steven's wolf to help, just as he helped me back then.
The other wolf didn't even notice me, so I was able to get close to him.
Even Steven didn't notice me at first. When he finally did, his eyes widened to look at me in shock.
In that moment of inattention, the other wolf took his chance and sank his fangs into Steven's neck. I immediately yelled and, without thinking too much, sank the knife into the stomach of the strange wolf, whose eyes immediately darted to me.
'Oh oh' shot through my head. Now I'm screwed...
The wolf looked at me angrily. However, seemed unfazed by the knife. It was probably just like a needle to him. Such crap too. Maybe I should have put it down his throat...
He growled menacingly and began to transform back. Steven's blood was still around his mouth as he grinned evilly at me.
"Ow...Auri...run..." came Steven's choking voice. He too was now back in his human form.
"Oh god," I said as I looked down at his huge wound in his neck, blood pouring out of it.
I didn't want to run away and leave my best friend dying. He did not deserve that. He just turned 18 today. Today his life really begins.
The man in front of me grabbed the knife that was still in his stomach. Without turning a corner of his mouth, he pulled out the piece of iron.
"...run..." I heard Steven's voice, only quietly.
Before I even knew it I felt an unbelievable pain in my stomach and somewhere behind me I could hear someone screaming my name.
I looked down at myself to understand what was happening. The knife I used against the enemy wolf was now lodged in my stomach and blood pooled around the wound.
All I could think about at that moment was my baby. All my plans for tonight were gone. My baby will die and so will I. Arsenic will lose us both. He didn't even know I was pregnant with his child.
I fell sideways. Black dots moved in my field of vision as more pain spread through me.
My head turned sideways again. Steven lay next to me and looked at me. His eyes seemed almost lifeless.
Then I suddenly felt something on my hand. My eyes wandered to her and I saw Steven's hand close around mine. With the last of his strength he gave her a reassuring squeeze, almost as if to tell me everything would be fine.
I looked again at Steven's face. He gave me a smile and I smiled back before finally the darkness called me.
At least he's with me. My best friend by my side. If we do something, then together. Thank you for always being there for me. Too bad I couldn't tell you that...
