Chapter 17: Chapter 17
Zaira's POV
The schoolhouse was the largest building apart from the dining hall. It had three floors, enough classrooms to accommodate all ages, a small library and a canteen. I listened carefully to the secretary as she explained every little detail and showed me around the school building.
When the tour was over, she gave me my schedule and the key to my locker and told me that I would find all my books there.
After thanking her with a small smile, I went to look for my locker. I was early so there weren't many students in the hallways, blessings of the moon goddess. This was hard enough, no need to make it harder for me.
Arrived at my locker, I took out all the books I will need today and stuffed them in my bag.

Story
Story. I stared at that word and curiosity filled my veins. I didn't know much about the world, had only picked up a few words here and there, the rest I had figured out myself. But the fact that I would now learn everything about the world and its history made my heart falter.
The chatter of the students and now my packmates increased and more and more drummed through the entrance. I didn't bother to look for Grace, Amber or anyone else from last night because they were all in their 20's like me and so they had already finished school. I quickly looked for the first classroom and ended up on the third floor. The room was empty, I headed to the back seat next to the window and sat down. After placing all of the books and notebooks for the lesson on my desk, I eagerly awaited the lesson.
15 minutes before school started, the first student walked in and her eyes widened immediately when she saw me. I automatically pressed my body against the window, trying to get as far away from her as possible, but still fixed her eyes.
With quick steps she came towards me and sat down next to me.
So much for distance.
My pulse was about to skyrocket as she began to speak.
"Hi, so nice to meet you!", unlike all the other pack members I'd met so far, her voice wasn't jittery, excited, loud, or energetic. No, it was soft and pleasantly quiet, like a gentle wind that playfully flew around you. "I'm Melodie, but feel free to call me Melly."
Her smile was sweet. Yes sweet, Melly was sweet. With her brown tresses and golden eyes, she literally embodied the word. Her freckles and little snub nose also complemented her cute demeanor. I had never met anyone I would describe as cute. My tension subsided immediately.
"Hi I'm Zaira." then she giggled. I cocked my head in confusion, what was so funny about that?
"I know that, the ceremony, remember?" Oh! I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment. I mumbled an apology to which she giggled again.
"Don't be silly Zaira!" still giggling, she playfully patted my arm. Now I smiled too.
Suddenly a loud ringing of the bell interrupted our conversation and I suddenly realized that the whole classroom was full. I'd been so distracted by Melody that I didn't even realize it. As Melly focused on the incoming teacher, I gave her a sideways glance, wondering if she'd done it on purpose. I could tell from her smell that she was an omega and maybe, just maybe, she realized how nervous I was and decided to distract me. She had cared for a pack member and done something for him, for me.
My heart warmed. Yes, the Silverstorm pack was a good pack.
The lesson started and I soaked it all up like a sponge. My curiosity and interest was so great that I leaned forward and listened spellbound to his words.
And that's how every lesson went. Melly and I had compared our schedules and discovered that we had almost every subject together. In the lessons she wasn't there, friendly students quickly approached me and sat down next to me. I enjoyed it, but sometimes it seemed too much for me, I haven't had as much contact with werewolves in years as I do now.
At noon I ate with Melly and her colleagues. Even though I was mostly silent, I still took part in the conversation from time to time. When I finally got to the history lesson, I couldn't wait.
"This semester we will be devoting ourselves to the history of Semeera, how our country came into being and how it has developed. You have all been given a history book and this is what we will be mainly relying on during the lesson, which means that you will read the book at every lesson have to have with you.", a groan went through the round. "Please turn to page 6 and start reading the chapter." After that he sat down and went about his own work. Actually, it should bother me that our teacher didn't try harder to organize the lesson, but I was so excited about what these pages revealed that I didn't itch in the slightest. I opened the book and started to read.
~
The Legend of Thera
Thousands of years ago, the three gods created the sacred land called Theras. Hades created the earth from the ground up, his sister Luna created the great seas and the three moons that orbited the earth. Gaia, his second sister, awakened the landscape and its fertility in abundance.
Each of was born to create a race to evenly divide and balance rulership of Theras.
Luna created the werewolves, Gaia created the Gis and Hades created the humans.
But not everything happened as they had imagined, because Hades did not want to share Theras. He craved power and was gripped by an undying need for control.
While Gaia and Luna were busy creating their people, Hades created a hiding place beneath the earth's surface. She should serve him to create his own army without the knowledge of his two sisters, who should help him to take over the rule. Warriors soullessly devoted to him.
However, he did not succeed, his sisters noticed his plan and a big war broke out. Hades was forced to surrender and they imprisoned him in his underworld. Doomed to be imprisoned for life.
To protect the werewolves and the gis from further harm, the goddesses created guardians. Defender and protector of all Theras.
Protected by an Avatar who wielded all four elements and a Lycan, the largest and most powerful werewolf ever, they succeeded in bringing peace to Theras for centuries to come.
All of Theras worshiped the two demigods, all their hope rested on them - the guardians of the gods' land when everything turned around.
The once-revered Wardens turned against the people of Thera, and once again the world was plunged into disaster. The result was a full ten years of a catastrophic bloodbath – the red age.
And then the guards disappeared. Only their names, which have dragged the people into the dirt, were left.
The Avatar of Death and the Cursed Wolf.
After the Red Age and the end of the war, the country split in two. Semeera and Anifeira arose and the two races of the goddesses separated more and more.
~
I stared at the last page of the chapter in shock.
"Aramis, the Cursed Wolf"
Could that be my Aramis?
My Mate?!
My mind was racing, as was my heart.
I didn't hear the school bell, only thanks to Melly nudging me did I notice all the other students already running out of the room. Lost in thought, I mumbled an apology and stormed past Melly out of the room. I didn't bother going to my locker and put all my papers in there, but swept out of the school building. The last rays of the sun made my blonde-white hair flash between all the trees as I ran towards my wooden cabin.
A guard.
A demigod.
A lycan.
And a monster.
Was that him? A monster? I remembered all the painful words he'd hurled at me and how he'd wiped out an entire pack without even batting an eyelid .
Everything made sense instantly. There was no doubt that my mate was the son of the moon goddess herself.
~Supernatural strength, and it was rumored that they had other powers that no one knew for sure.~
But I knew all too well that he had other abilities as well. Aramis had lifted both Alpha Blake and Alpha Heariv into the air without even touching them. He had somehow killed Alpha Blake and the Darkmoon pack out of nowhere. I couldn't figure out how, yet there's no denying that he's more than just a werewolf.
I paced my room excitedly, unable to stay still for even a minute. I let out my breath violently, waiting for the feeling of disgust, disgust, and dislike to set in. Nothing.
The pain of the mate band was still there.
I cried out in frustration and tore my hair. Why couldn't I hate him? From what I had learned about him, you'd think I'd like to see him dead! But just the mere thought that he would die brought me inner agony.
My knees buckled and I fell to the ground. There was nothing I could do about my longing for Aramis. He was my mate, and even though there was such a gaping wound in my heart that I wasn't sure I would ever recover, I knew that no matter what happened, I would always love him.
**
Sunlight no longer penetrated through the large windows, but it was not completely pitch black, the moon shone in the night and let the entire room shimmer in its light. I must have stayed put for hours, my joints immediately started to complain as I stood up, groaning softly. I couldn't say what I had thought and felt, but it had been one of the worst hours of my life.
Since I wasn't going to sleep tonight anyway, I made myself a cup of tea and pondered how I was going to get through the coming hours without thinking about my mate when I heard footsteps and the front door opened.
I spun around and froze.
"Aramis?"
