Chapter 64: Chapter 64

Angel waited for Amèlie to join them before excusing himself. Nadia watched him leave and tears filled her eyes. When the door shut behind him, she shut her eyes and looked away from Amèlie, trying to hide the tears. Amèlie sat on the mattress and reached for her chin, forcing Nadia to look her way.

"What is going on? Come on, you can tell me," Amèlie said.

"Nothing…" Nadia whispered.

"This nothing must be really weighing on you for it to put you in this state," Amèlie said. Nadia tried to smile but more tears spilt down her face.

"Let me give you a piece of advice from one human to another, if you have unsolved problems with your mate, you should always hatch it out. They are straight forward unlike our kind. They don't say what they don't mean and mean what they say. With the little I have seen of your Angel, he seemed pretty possessive of you and attentive. And around here, I know what that means.”

Nadia refused to meet the other woman's gaze. She figured since the doctor didn't know about her history with Angel she would not be able to interpret his actions accurately.

Angel was attentive all right, but Nadia knew he was that way because he had taken her against her will. And was simply keeping an eye on her. He had told her why he took her and the doctor may be right about Weres not being deceitful, but Angel had spent quite a considerable amount of time with mean people and had learnt to survive by playing their games. He had used her to escape his bondage while hating her for taking advantage of him. He had used her body and toyed with her emotions and had done it with a straight face. And when the mask was off, he had subdued her so he could take her to torment her further. Nadia was convinced that if Angel had had his way and was able to escape on his own with no assistance, she would probably be in some dingy room tied up now. And even though the thought of being in that position seemed horrific, Nadia would have done anything he wanted just so he would forgive her. And she would not even want to escape because she would want to be with him. The thought of escaping reminded her of her father, and Nana Viktoriya. She knew they would be worried sick once they hear about the incident at her uncles’, and figured she ought to give them a call at least to assuage their fears.

Raising her tear-stained face to meet the other woman's gaze, she said, "I need to call my dad, and my Nana, so they know that I'm alright. They must be worried sick. My dad calls me every day to check up on me and once the news of …. What happened at my uncles reached him and my Nana..."

"I will help you to discuss it with Xavier. I am sure he will think of something.”

"Thank you, " Nadia said.

"Tell me how are you feeling?"

"I have a headache and my face hurts."

"Okay, let me give you a shot to take care of that," the doctor said and prepared an injection for her. She gave Nadia an injection on her bum and used cotton wool to press the spot before using a band-aid to cover it.

"Thank you," Nadia said as she settle back on the bed.

"I don't want to give you sleeping pills because you just woke up after being unconscious for a while, but I'm certain Angel will take care of you and you will feel much better before we leave," Amèlie said. Nadia merely nodded, knowing Angel would not be doing any such thing.

"If you need anything else just ask Angel to get me, okay?"

"Okay, thank you so much."

"You are welcome. Once we get back home I will run some more tests and give you a thorough check-up. But I think there is no cause for alarm, but let me know if anything happens."

"I will, thanks," Nadia said again. The other woman patted her on the back of her hand, got up and left. Angel walked inside immediately the door closed behind the doctor.

Nadia couldn't help meeting his gaze. She doubted she would get used to seeing him fully clothed any time soon. He looked different from the Angel back on her uncle's estate.

"How are you feeling?" he asked in a low bland tone.

"I'm not dying if that is what you need to know…" Nadia retorted. Angel nodded and stood at the foot of the bed for a few minutes before lowering to perch on the mattress.

"I heard you asking the doctor about calling your father…."

"Were you spying on me?!" she said with indignation.

Angel tapped his ear and muttered, "It's a wolf thing, we hear everything, and I was just outside."

Nadia lowered her gaze, embarrassed he had heard their conversation. "You can't reach out to your people."

"What?"

"It's better to let them think you died in the fire."

"What fire?!"

"We blew the estate up. There's nothing left there but rumbles and of course, burnt bodies."

"Oh, my God! How could you sit there and tell me you mass murdered people so calmly!"

"People? Those weren't people, they were animals. The only people who deserved to walk out of there alive are already on their way back to their families…."

"And me?"

"You what, Nadia?"

"How long do I have to pay for my crimes before I'm allowed to go back to my family? Because you must know I don't want to be with you!"

Nadia saw anger flare in his eyes and he stood up. Holding her gaze for about a minute, he directed his gaze to a side shelf and walked to it, opening one of the chests of drawers, he brought out a pen and paper. Hurriedly scribbled something in it. Nadia's heart beat faster in her chest and she rose to sit up, watching him and for some reason she was afraid.

He walked back to her and dropped a piece of paper on her outstretched legs.

"Say the words to me and I will make sure you get back home to your family," he said. His voice was cold and withdrawn. Nadia's hand shook as she reached for the paper and her eyes blurred when she saw what was written on it.
