Chapter 39: Chapter 39

While the others were still making fun of Freki, Angel sat down to ponder on his plan. But the scent of Nadia clinging to his skin, kept distracting him, forcing him to dwell on what they just shared.

He patted his pocket to make sure the keys were still there even though he knew they were. He had hidden the second phone in a small hole he dug in the concrete wall just under his bed and he tapped his right foot on the floor as he recounted what he needed to do before he made that call to Xavier and hoped by then, his cousin would have gotten his message. And with Daniel now sending guards after him, he knew once he found out that he had survived the attack, he would find other means. And he knew what the bastard was capable of. His eyes darted from one cell to the other, watching his friends chat animatedly, making Blaze recount their ordeal over and over, word for word.

His eyes settled on Blaze and his heart tightened, happy that for once the young Were had something to laugh about. He had always been a sullen, angry pup, and the determination to make sure he got him out grew inside him.

Nadia's sweet scent whizzed into his nose again and his beast whined in longing. He sighed. ‘Cut it out, we just saw her!’ Angel thought to himself but the beast in him wanted his mate. The urge grew and so did the tapping of his feet. Soon enough his agitated state attracted the attention of the others, and one by one they stopped talking to glance his way. Without looking in their direction, Angel knew they were watching him.

“Tell us, Angel. What do we do now?” Kurt asked.

Angel raised his eyes to meet his gaze and said, “I can't involve you guys. You know ... in case I get caught.”

“We are in this together, brother,” Blaze said.

The statement gave Angel pause. ‘Indeed they were, and involving his friends would allow him to get things done faster’ he thought to himself.

“I know where we can get explosives...” Angel said and all the Weres got up. “My … friend wants to come for cover... I think it might get dangerous. I would like to go as myself without hiding. It makes it faster. We need to get there and come back before sunrise. I also want us to plant the explosives in the main building before I call the white wolf to come to get us.”

“Shit! I can’t believe this is actually going down!” Blaze said in excitement.

“You are certain he will come?”Amarok asked. He was the Were in the cell opposite Blazes’. He sounded almost scared to hope. And Angel knew that feeling too well.

“He wants Antonio Rufus dead and keeping our kind save is kind of his thing. Plus, I am his blood. He will come,” Angel reassured.

“Use us to get the explosives. The more of us the better,” said Blaze.

“We all can’t leave though...” Angel replied.

“Why not? We can be fast. Get in, get out, and come back before anyone notices,” Kurt said. Angel hung his head pondering the suggestion.

“You are right, we can work faster as a pack. But you guys remember it’s been a while since some of us actually turn. I know Angel and Blaze can because of the mission Antonio Rufus used them for...” Fenrir, another Were interjected.

Angel didn’t try to correct the other Were. Only Kurt knew when and how he got his beast back and it had nothing to do with Antonio Rufus' experimental drugs.

“That damn doctor has a drug that can help us feel our beast if we can get it from the main building...” Odwolf, the wolf occupying the cell before Freki's former cell grumbled.

“We don’t know the side effect though,” Ralph, another Were replied.

“It could be dangerous,” Hrolf, the Were in the cell after Odwolf’s cell interjected.

“Do we really need our wolves to do this? We are strong and fast even as humans. We can do this. If we need the strength of a wolf Blaze or Angel can shift!” Kurt snapped.

“He is right. We are still strong as humans,” Blaze said.

“I still say we get that damn drug too,” Odwolf insisted.

“We will. It might come in handy. But for now, we need to keep this quiet and avoid mistakes,” Angel replied.

“Alright then! Let’s do this!” said Blaze.

Angel got up to pull his bed aside and gingerly used his nails to pull out the concrete block covering the hole he created in the wall and brought out the phone, leaving the medical supplies he had gotten from the experimentation room there. He replaced the block, put on the phone and called Nadia. She picked up the call on the first ring. Angel shut his eyes when she whispered his name. Her voice carried a certain level of emotion that sent thrills shooting through his body. His beast felt elated and the effect gave him goosebumps. Excitement and lust welled inside him.

“Do you think you could meet me in the secret passage?” he asked. His voice was low and husky.

“Yes!” she replied.

“Good. See you there in 4 minutes,” Angel said and ended the call. And to the others, he said, “Guys, remember any slightest mistake and it’s game over for all of us. We must stay together, be as quiet as possible and get back fast.”

“Thank you, Angel,” Amarok said.

“Don’t thank me yet, brother, let’s get out of this shit hole alive first, then we can celebrate,” Angel replied as they all started to file out of their cells.

“Take me with you...” Angel heard Wolfe say from his cell and he paused.

“You have to wait this one out, brother. I promise you when it’s time to get out of this hell hole, I will not leave you behind,” Angel said, meaning it too. The other Were held his gaze for about a minute and nodded.

A few minutes later, Angel used the secret passage key to get inside the tunnel and found Nadia already waiting there dressed in all-black combat gear. His heart soared. His beast whined. He thought she looked absolutely stunning with her hair held up showing off her perfect diamond-shaped face. He took a step towards her, wanting to kiss and hold her but then paused, remembering they were not alone. Nadia met his gaze and her tongue flicked out to wet her lips. Angel groaned silently. The urge to claim her increased.

“Hey!” she said, waving to the others behind him. The Weres replied to her greeting in several intonations of awkward baritone voices. “Shall we?” she said with excitement, gesturing to the other tunnel. Angel nodded, literally clenching his fists to keep from reaching for her.

“Come, stay behind me,” Angel said and she immediately did as told. The others filed behind her, forming a line as they all marched after Angel.

Upon getting to the end of the gate, Angel opened the gate and peered out, gesturing for others to wait. He then beckoned to them and they followed him out.

“Keep up, guys,” Angel said to the others and to Nadia, he said, “climb my back and shut your eyes.” She held his intense gaze for a millisecond and then nodded. He then crouched low in front of Nadia so she could reach his neck. She held on to his broad, muscular shoulder and he straightened his spine, lifting her off the ground.

Nadia wasn’t certain, but she thought she could feel him grow even taller which she quickly dismissed as impossible. But she felt the smooth feel of his exposed neck replaced by a soft silky texture of his fur. She gasped silently in awe but kept her eyes closed as he had asked.

She could not, however, resist the urge to rub her cheek against the silky texture. Unknowing to her that she was heightening his desire to have her.

Angel took a deep breath, trying to take his mind off how great she felt and started to jog before breaking into a run. The others followed him. Nadia held on tightly to him.
