Chapter 6: Chapter 6

War zone

Elle’s POV

As it was time for the sun to come down the building had automatic light sensors that turned on as soon as it got dark but outside they had nothing so it was much more dangerous and unfortunately more injuries were being treated. Some of the fighters who were coming to get treated were deeply wounded.

One guy had his backbone broken after he suffered an attack from a Gowduger. It was my responsibility to help him heal but I could not do much. All I could do was wrap up his back to support it and suggest to him that he should rest. One other woman was bleeding from a large slash in her skin which was quite deep. I cleaned her wound and stopped the bleeding, then stitched it so to help start the healing process.

Unfortunately for one Ragnon he lost his fight to survive as one horn from a Gowdouger slashed open his chest and got into his lungs. He died due to a lack of oxygen as I tried to resuscitate him. That was very sad and was told he had a young daughter that his wife just gave birth to. The child will grow up without her father and the mother without a husband.

I figured out by now that the Ragnons had healing powers and that was a great thing to have, but of course, certain wounds would not heal in an instant. A small cut would heal within an hour or so but a broken bone or a very large wound would take them days, sometimes weeks or months. All the wounded that managed to heal quickly decided to go back and fight. They have so much pride and courage and do their best for their planet and their people.

Unfortunately the dead were not going to bring them in until the fight is over. One doctor that I managed to exchange words with told me that it is an honour to die fighting for your people but it was not honourable for the living to leave the dead on the same spot where they passed away. unfortunately, though no medic can risk their lives to get them as the Gowdougers will have a go at killing them too so they had to wait till everything was over.

To honour the dead they will then do a ceremony and burn the bodies, building a pile of wood and lay them on a flat surface. They believe that together they will find their way to be reborn.

I was very worried about Elijah and Belle as I had no news about them. I tried asking some Ragnons that came in injured and was told that were not spotted anywhere. All I knew is that they had their mission and were not on the battlefield. This war was taking hours and hours to be over and soon the sun was going to rise again.

Elijah's POV

My sister was doing a great job tightening the ropes. Some tried their best to get loose and also tried to call out for help squeaking loudly and snorting. Those that tried to help them escape were slashed down with my sword. It was almost getting dark now and so I was getting nervous as I wouldn’t be able to see that much.

Also, the Gowdugers‘s skin almost blends with the forest and so it got trickier by the time. Some of us can see well at night which was a great gift to have when you are in the middle of fighting but I did not possess such a gift yet and so I decided to call for someone with such an ability to replace me whilst I go back to the battlefield and fight along the other Ragnons. I took out my sword from its pocket that was hanging on my back and rushed towards the fortified wall.

As I reached the door I couldn’t see anything. It was pitch black and so I stopped for a second to wait for my sight to adjust. unfortunately, I didn’t spot a Gowduger that was behind me and it leapt on me from behind, pushing me down onto the soil and dug its horns into my back. I screamed in pain. Then as it pulled the horns out of me it ran off to try and leap onto another Ragnon.

Because of the excruciating pain, I felt myself drifting into darkness. I tried hard to remain conscious and made an effort to lift myself but I felt heavy and numb and dropped myself onto the ground again losing control of my senses.

Belle’s POV

“Darkness is the only enemy that will never lose."

That is what my father used to say before he passed away. I thought so much of him and felt courage all the way. He was a great warrior, strong and very tall just like my brother. Elijah reminds me of him as he shared the same hair colour and the same facial features.

I remember him telling me a great number of stories that he went through as a fighter and on my fifteenth birthday, he started to train me to grow up into a strong and well-taught warrior alongside my brother.

My vision was not so clear anymore so I decided that I have gotten enough Gowdugers tied up to the trees. I decided to go back to the battlefield to help out there, hoping that the fight will soon be over. As I reached the door to get through the walls I see someone on the ground either dead or unconscious so I rushed to give him or her my aid.

To my horror, it was my brother Elijah. My body started shaking as I was afraid to lose the only family I had left. I knelt beside him to inspect what happened and see two wounds on his back. They were deep but blood was still running out so I knew he was still alive. His breathing was weak and so I acted quickly. I removed his armour and with a cloth that I keep against my waist, I pushed down on the wounds to slow down the blood.

I shouted his name and tried to get him back into consciousness but he stayed still. I decided to wrap one of the ropes I had In my blue backpack around him with the cloth still on the wounds.

Suddenly A white glow was coming from the forest which made me look in its direction. I let out a scream of joy as I knew that the Zarogian trees were getting strong and the portals were ready.

Garry, the one that was guarding the Gowdugers came running and I could hear him scream out with excitement and shouting out “it worked! It worked!” I yelled at him and waved to get his attention and help me move my brother inside.

"It's my brother! He is too heavy for me," I said shakily still holding onto his wound.

"It's ok, Belle. He will be ok. Let's take him in," he said, kneeling by his side to lift him.

Elle’s POV

Suddenly I hear the Ragnons sing together from outside. I got so confused as to why, but then I see the Ragnons that were inside the building laughing, smiling and cheering. Finally, the battle was over. The Gowdugers were leaving knowing that they were defeated. I cheered with everyone and exchanged hugs but something was still bothering me.

I wanted to make sure that Elijah and Belle were ok. I decided to wait outside by the huge door that was the main entrance to the building. From afar I could see Belle and another Ragnon holding Elijah and they were dragging him towards the building. My heart started racing and I rushed to them to see what happened. I helped them bring him in.

His heavy body looked weak. I pushed through the crowd and asked them to make a way for us. We put him in my working section and laid him on the bed facing down so that I would be able to inspect the wounds. They were very deep and knew that they would take a lot of time to heal. He was losing consciousness every few minutes, then I put him to sleep with a sedative to help him calm down.

I took an x-ray to check his internal organs and noticed his backbone was broken and his lungs were a little punctured. Fortunately enough the heart was missed by inches but he bled internally and that was crucial enough. His healing process would take at least a month or so and therefore I made myself ready to tend to him and help him during the process.
