Chapter 99: Chapter 99

Sharon could not believe what she had just heard.

'What are you talking about doctor? That Devon escaped and she is on her way to this place as we speak and that she did what toy husband?'

'Ma'am, I'm sorry but you see we are really occupied and very busy at the moment. I just took the time to get in contact with you because I felt that you should know'.

'What happened to my husband dammit!' she yelled panicking. If Bryan was fighting for his life, then who was going to love and protect them from the devilish Devon?'

The doctor kept silent. He understood that she was speaking out of fright but he still did not take kindly to swearing especially by women.

Sharon realised that whatever be the problem, it couldn't have been the doctor's fault and she should not let loose her frustrations on him. If she wanted to get more details, then she had to be more civil irrespective of her feelings and disposition.

'I am sorry, I didn't mean to speak to you that way but you see, I am pregnant and all these is sounding like a nightmare. What did you say happened to my husband? I must not have heard you well because my husband is the strongest man that I know of'.

The doctor felt pity for her. This was not the kind of news a pregnant woman should be hearing nor is it the kind of experience she should be dealing or coping with but he had no choice but to tell it to her since he had already started.

'Devon pushed him down a flight of tears and he broke a bone. We cannot say for now of it is just his shoulder bone or his neck but the stream of doctors where we took him to unconscious because of his loss of blood, are battling to stabilize him'.

'Then he will be okay?'

'I do not want to give you false hoped but his condition is critical. The next forty eight hours will determine if he lives or dies, according to the doctors'.

'Thank you, doc but where is this hospital?', she said her hands trembling and her voice quivering.

The doctor gave her the address and she made up her mind to go to him and stay there till she got her husband back. Bryan could not die. Not now that they had just found each other.

She broke down in tears. She had just started enjoying her marriage after three wasted years and she had to be given such a news now that she was pregnant?'

This was no time for years, she thought. She had to find a solution and beat Devon at her games. She could not allow her win now that Bryan was injured. She had to dig out the reserves of strength she had and take charge. She was going to show Devon who the better woman, more deserving of Bryan was.

She calked Gabriel and intimated him on the recent developments. She had to keep her voice low so that Deborah would not know of the developments yet.

She then called David.

'Is Bryan back? He left the office telling me he was going to take charge and rectify the mistakes he had made concerning Devon, I hope he has done that? Then she heard her crying. 'Sharon what is the problem? Is Deborah alright? Bryan told me she was having nightmares. Is that what is bothering you? She will be okay'.

Sharon could not hold back her tears anymore as she narrated all that had happened.

'What? What hospital is that?'

Sharon told him. 'But I need a place where I can keep Deborah and where she would be safe till we know our fate'.

'She is my goddaughter. You can bring her over. I know you would want to go and stay with your husband'.

'I do not want just anywhere but a place where Devon could never get to her. She isn't safe in our house. She has to stay in a place where Devon does not know about till Bryan gets out of the hospital'

'That is the spirit. You must never accept the worst. Have faith and your faith will help pull you through difficult and impossible situations', David advised, recalling how she had given him faith when he was dying and he had miraculously recovered.

Sharon also remembered and was determined to speak words if faith into Bryan's ears till he started fighting for his life.

'Thank you David for your advice but the problem of where Deborah would stay is still not solved and while we are wasting time, that mad girl is on her way here. If she could push Bryan with an inhuman strength, what chance do I stand against her?'

'Bring my daughter here. I shall guard her with my life. No one will abduct her or harm her. Not on my watch', David said and Sharon packed Deborah's things and that of two helps to take care of her in David's house.

She deposited her daughter at David's with a promise to come back after seeing her father.

'But mum, can't I come with you to see daddy?'

'The place is far and I don't want you to get tired on the way but we shall soon be back. We just want to make sure that we take care of that evil aunt so that she does not bother us anymore. Be a good girl till we get back'.

'Is that why you brought me here to uncle David's Place?'

'Yes. And now I have to go. Be good'. She kissed her daughter and hugged her and gave the maids instructions and thanked David who had rushed home to be with his goddaughter.

She already packed her things --- the things she felt were necessary and which she would be needing and Gabriel met her where she had planned for him to meet her and drove her to the hospital while she let flow the tears she had been holding in so that her daughter would not know that there was anything wrong and narrated the whole incident like she heard it from the doctor to her cousin who looked at her with pity.

Was she ever going to get some peace in her marriage? He prayed that Bryan should survive because he did not know what she would do if he doesn't.
