Chapter 98: Chapter 98

Bryan got to the office and quickly got started with the work that had piled up for him. He normally didn't allow work to pile this way because he was really very diligent with his work but the past few days had been hectic, with him looking for his daughter and almost going insane with worry and fear.

Afterwards, he went into David's office and was glad he met him because he was on his way out.

'How are they now? How is Deborah coping with the situation? Hope she isn't having nightmares?' he asked anxiously. Deborah was his god daughter after all.

'How did you know about the nightmares?' Bryan asked surprised at how knowledgeable he was though he did not have his own children yet.

'It is just common sense. A child who goes through what she had been through will definitely have nightmares for a while till she totally forgets about the experience'.

'She actually had nightmares last night and had to sleep with us because she refused to go back to her room out of fear'.

' You will have to do something and very fast about Devon and there should be no undue sentiments. If there is a repeat of this, it might affect her psychologically'.

'That is why I came to your office. I need to go to where she is being held captive and settle things like where she would be taking her treatment with tight security and far away from my family's, he said reflectively.

'That's good. Be quick about it so that your wife would not have undue stress and pressure on her in addition to the stressful nature of her condition'.

They parted and Bryan went to the police custody where Devon was kept overnight.

Devon was really looking a mess as though she had really totally lost it and against his will, Bryan felt a stirring of pity in his heart for her.

He had made a call and the doctor that was to admit her into the hospital was already expecting them.

Bryan hired a vehicle with protection with which he conveyed her to the hospital very far from their residence and town of habitation.

They got there and it was an upstairs building. The walls were really high and there were guards patrolling everywhere. The grasses were low and there was nothing planted that could be used as a weapon.

Bryan looked around and felt that it was a good enough place to keep her. He had also heard much of their reputation. it was the former doctor treating her that had recommended the place for effectiveness and security.

'He paid the amount he was asked to pay for her treatment and other miscellaneous expenses and they were going to sedate her but she said that she would like to say goodbye to her brother be ause she felt deeply sorry for the trouble she had put him through.

Bryan felt that it was an improvement if she was already feeling remorseful and asked the doctors to allow her see him to the stairs and wave her farewell to him.

Against their principles, they accepted but two nurses went with her.

At the edge of the stairs, Devon's eyes and face turned malicious. 'You deserted me because that imp you married and so you deserve everything that has happened to you and all that is coming to you'. She said and Bryan looking at such a face filled with such evil was frightened for his family. But she had taken him unawares be ause as he turned to look at her make the statement and register her evil look, he knew that the case was no longer as simple as he had assumed and could understand his daughter's fear of Devon but before he could turn back, telling himself that he had made the right choice bringing her there, Devon pushed him down the flight of stairs. The force with which she did was inhumane. She could not have possessed such a strength in such a delicate body.

Bryan tumbled down the stairs, trying to break his fall while hearing her hysterical laughter and her words 'It serves you right'. Before he hit the floor sustaining a great injury to his head and neck and blood sipped out from his injuries and just before he passed out, Devon jumped with a super human effort and ran out the gate. 'I have delt with you, now I shall deal with your wife and children'.

Bryan felt pain in his heart at those words rather than from his injuries. He realised that he had made a terrible mistake and fear gripped his heart for Sharon and their unborn child and for his beloved Deborah who had kept warning him against his step sister but he would not listen.

He could not lift his head. Maybe he had broken something like his neck bone or something but he tried pointing towards the fleeing Devin indicating to them to run after her and get her but even as he lost consciousness, he knew that they would not be able to get her and fear for his family increased. He fought the darkness trying to overtake him but could not as he lost consciousness.

He was quickly wheeled to the nearest hospital hoping for the best for him.

They were unable to catch the girl. This was why they had wanted to give her a sedative bit the gentleman would not agree. In cases such as this, there was no sentiments.

It was doubtful that he would survive the fall especially with the broken bones in such a delicate place and the amount of blood he had lost and the girl he had been trying to secure was running around loose.

The purpose of the trip was already defeated.

As the doctors battled to see if they could save his life, one of the doctors felt it was ideal if they told his family about the recent developments. So he searched his things and found his phone and went through his contacts and saw a name registered under the title, My life. He felt that such a person so named must be his wife or someone really close to him.

He dialled the number and a tender voice responded from the other end. 'Bryan, is that you?'

'No, this is the doctor that works at the hospital where your sister in law was supposed to have been admitted'.

Sharon became alert at the mention of doctor but the last statement if the man was what she did not understand.

'Yes, do Tor. My husband told us he was taking her to you today. But what do you mean by 'supposed to be admitted' was she not admitted anymore? And why?'

'I am sorry madam but your husband made a terrible mistake trusting her. She pushed him down the stairs and we pray that he survives but his survival is in doubt and from her threat before escaping when all our attention was diverted on your husband was that she was coming to deal with you and your children. She is highly dangerous. So I'll advise that you relocate immediately before she gets to you and your children'
