Chapter 94: Chapter 94

Bryan himself was very furious and his fury leapt in bounds when he heard and saw the drugs that his wife would have been forced to drink that most probably would have killed her and their unborn child but his duty was still making him try to help her get better than placing her in police custody.

'Is she okay?' husband and wife asked simultaneously when they saw their daughter being brought out if the building.

'She seemed to be sleeping or drugged but she is still breathing', they responded.

Sharon was crying and she could see Bryan's eyes glittering and knew that he was holding in his emotions.

He called for a doctor immediately and the family doctor came and checked on Deborah and said that her system was too full of drugs and that her system had to be flushed so that there would be no side effects.

But that time, Deborah had woken but she just stared at them dazed and a girl who was very chatty did not say anything. She just looked like the ghost of her former self.

Sharon cried the more.

'You are really lucky that all that I have tried to do away with you have failed so far. The next attempt will not, I assure you. So it is better you kill me now because if I get another chance to get close to you again, then you will not go Scot free. Enjoy it while it lasts and be grateful that your daughter was found alive'.

Sharon looked at Bryan and he understood what she was not saying. She would not feel safe while Devon was still around but how could he get rid of his own half sister? But how could he in trying to do his duty by Devon endanger the lives of his family? Was it really worth it? He could not reach a decision just then but he knew he would give it serious thought and come up with a decision that he hoped would be the solution to the problem.

Afterwards, it was agreed that she should be taken first into police custody pending when a well guarded hospital would be found for her. The doctor injected Deborah with a drug that served as an elixir, to neutralize the effect of the drugs she had been made to consume and gave prescribed other drugs for them, indicating the dose and advising that Deborah had enough rest. 'I shall come to the house to see how she is doing', he promised.

'But do Tor, you are certain, these drugs would get her to her normal self soonest?' Sharon voiced the anxiety of Bryan. It was not that they did not trust the doctor's judgement. It was just that they were very anxious for their child to get back to her normal healthy and bubbly condition.

The doctor smiled. 'Don't worry, you will see that she will soon be okay. I gave her a pretty strong medicine but one suitable for her age and it is all going to be alright but you have to be careful from henceforth. The drugs she was fed were not of her age and we're very strong ones too'. He took his leave after promising once more to visit them at home. He had not taken offense at their questions because he knew that they had asked such questions not because they doubted his capabilities and judgements as a medical doctor but because they were worried about their child. He understood all that and that was why he had smiled and taken his time to put them at ease.

Bryan carried Deborah into the car with which he had brought Sharon not wanting her to track when they were following behind the search party. But he had to carry them a Ross the water and found a shallow path fir them to trend to get to the other side where the car was packed.

They looked back at the deserted building where Devon had been keeping their daughter.

The building was dilapidated, old and looked like it was going to collapse any moment. It was evident that it had not been occupied for a long time. Nobody in their right senses would want to go near such a building and Sharon shuddered. What if the building had fallen while her daughter was still in it?

The officers that found Deborah had said that Devon had placed her on a table close to the terrace of the building and she could easily have fallen had she woken and decided to look down because the iron protectors if the terrace were all worn.

Sharon thanked God once more for protecting her daughter and her unborn child.

She looked up and found her husband staring at her and she knew that he was thinking the same thing she was.

They got to the car and lying Deborah gently behind and stepping her, Bryan drove to the house where he ordered that Deborah's best meal be prepared without delay.

She slept for some hours, her breathing normal because Sharon refused to leave her side. She did not even have the chance to ask Bryan what his decision concerning his half sister was because it had become very obvious that she was dangerous to Sharon and her children, especially since she knew every nook and cranny of their house.

When Deborah woke, she felt stronger but a little giddy but that was to be expected.

The meal was brought and she picked at it.

'Morhwr, is that you?'

'Yes, daughter, it is I. We eventually found you'.

'That woman is no good. She gave me some bad things to eat and drink and when I didn't, she forced me. I was sick but she did not care', Deborah said weakly.

'It is okay. Don't speak now. It is okay now. She will not come close to you anymore. Your dad and I shall make sure of that. Didn't you see how we rescued you?' Sharon tried to put her at ease though she was not very confident about her promise be ause she did not know what decision Bryan would take concerning his sister. Family was always very important to him and even now, she knew that whatever decision he would make was going to be tough on him and she did not want to preempt him but give him time to reach his decision and tell her. She only hoped it would be one that would not make her live in perpetual fear for her life and that of her children.
