Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Gabriella is happy to be done with her exams and returned to work. Anthon arranged for her to work dayshifts now that she no longer has class during the day. Gabriella tried to avoid him as much as possible. Gabriella didn’t really like working the day shift as a cleaner, but she knew that it is safer. Every day she would secretly clean near the beautiful man’s room, but she never went inside. Gabriella noticed that the nurses are smitten with this man that they call Zurier. “Apparently that is all he remembers, and he is not even sure if that is his name or one of the attackers,” Gabriella once overheard one of the nurses.
Zurier has been receiving physiotherapy but is barely able to get out of bed. He had limited movement in his legs and arms, but the doctors assured him that he will have full use of his limps in no time.
Gabriella looked at herself in the mirror. She could not decide how to wear her hair. She is officially an intern as a Physiotherapists and today is her first day working as an intern and not a cleaner. Gabriella is relieved that she is the only new intern this year. Nobody really knew her before the ordeal and if it was not for what happened to her, they still would have not known about her.
“Good morning Gabriella, this is Sandra, and you will be her intern,” Mrs. Finn introduced Gabriella to her mentor.
“Good morning follow me. Our first patient is a man that was brutely attack and only remembers his name,” Sandra started as they walked to their first patient. Gabriella had an idea that it might be Zurier.
They arrived at his room, “Good morning Zurier,” Sandra greeted.
“Good morning Sandra.” Zurier is delighted to see Gabriella and without thinking, he greeted her by name, “good morning Gabriella.”
“You two know each other?” Sandra asked.
“No, we don’t,” Gabriella states, confused as to how this man that claims to know only his name knows hers.
Zurier knew that no one would understand if he told them the truth and had to think fast, “Alex showed me a photo, thought it might trigger my memory.”
“Oh, ok. Well, Gabriella will be helping you with your therapy from now on and I will check in every now and then for an update. This is his medical file, and it is up to you to do all the necessary research and a plan of action. Spent the day with him so that you can learn just how far he is in his progress to full mobility and then have a report with an action plan on my desk in the morning,” Sandra says, handing her Zurier’s file before leaving the room.
“Guess you did not expect your first day to start like this,” Zurier says, smiling.
Gabriella feels a sense of calmness coming over her, a calmness that she could not explain.
“Actually, I am surprised that she is starting me on such a big case, what happend to you is no small thing,” Gabriella says.
“What about you, how are you doing after what happened to you?” Zurier asks, again a slip.
“Let me guess, Alex told you all about me?” Gabriella felt a bit upset that everyone knows her as the victim.
Before Zurier could answer Gabriella drew a chair near, “I am alive and I have use of my limps, so I am grateful.”
“Have you had breakfast?” Gabriella asks, not sure as to how to start the session.
“I did. You should start by asking me to move my fingers and my toes,” Zurier helps her out.
“Well, I already saw your toes and fingers move, can you lift your arms for me?” Gabriella stood up and took her place next to him. She wanted to touch his arm so that she can evaluate his muscle strength, but she is scared that something bad will happen.
“Sandra normally touches my arm,” Zurier says, looking at Gabriella.
Gabriella hesitantly reached out to touch his arm and as she is about to put her hand on his arm, she could feel heat radiate between her hand and his arm, like a force pulling them together. Zurier could also feel it but unlike Gabriella, he is excited for her to touch him.
Zurier's eyes met Gabriella's and she could feel the intensity built between them but she could not understand it. She feels like she knows this man but she has never met him before.
Zurier really just wanted to blurt out that he was her Angel but knew it is too soon, knowing Gabriella, she will never believe him.
With their eyes on each other, the moment got too big for Gabriella and she retracted her hand, "I think I will go do some research first and then we will get into the physical. Gabriella is about to walk out when she remembered that she needs his file, "I'll just take this."
Gabriella walked out of the room so fast that she walked straight into Anthon, "where are you off to in such a hurry?" Anthon stops her by grabbing her shoulders.
"Hi, sorry. Got my first patient, have to go do some research so that I can work out a recovery plan of action for him."
"Come, use my office," Anthon invited her.
"Thank you."
Instead of allowing her access to his profile on his computer he quickly set up her own profile. Gabriella thought it a bit odd but then brushed it off.
"I have to go see a patient, see you later for lunch," Anthon says before leaving the room.
Gabriella found it hard to concentrate, thinking about the beautiful man in the bed, his dark hair tied up in a man bum, and his deep brown eyes, "urg, I wish I can stop thinking about him," she says out loud.
"Don't, I have been thinking about you all morning swell," Anthon says walking into his office holding takeouts.
Gabriella laughs softly, 'oh boy, how am I going to get away from this one,' she thought to herself.
Gabriella printed her work and also send herself a copy to her own email so that she can work on it later.
Gabriella stood up from Anthon's chair but he stopped her, "it's fine, stay there, I will sit here."
