Chapter 33: Chapter 33

A knock on Amy's door caused her to take her eyes off the clothes she was mending.

"Who's that? Come in," she muttered.

The door creaked open and from the corner of her eyes, she saw Kayla walk in slowly.

For two days now, Amy hadn't said a word to Kayla, and she wasn't planning on doing so anytime soon. She'd promised herself that she wouldn't have any conversations with Kayla until a week, at least.

But it was slowly killing Kayla. She hated when her friend was like this. She couldn't live like she was living with a stranger anymore.

"What do you want?" Amy grunted as she continued what she was doing with the dress.

"I need to talk to you about something," Kayla replied as she walked into the room and shut the door behind her.

"I don't have anything to say to you, Kayla. There's nothing to talk about," she replied.

"Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have allowed him to get out of the house. I shouldn't have let him out of my sight. I shouldn't have let him disobey. I'm wrong, I know. And I apologize. You can't keep giving me the silent treatment. It's not nice," Kayla mumbled with guilt as she walked to where Amy was seated.

"You betrayed me, Kayla. Yes, you did! I told you about my fears and begged you not to let this boy out for valid reasons, but you bullshitted my instructions and let him out,"

"But you know the boy has me wrapped around his finger. You know I can't say no to him. I have a hard time doing that. I was really sad when I told him not to go outside, and it felt like my heart was shattering into pieces. You can't entirely blame me-"

"I'm serious, Kayla! This is not a joke! What if... What if this Mr. Stranger guy didn't return my son back? We don't have an idea who he is, and we don't know why he's doing whatever he's doing for my son. He might be a serial killer, a pedophile, or even a psychopath. What do you think my life would've turned to if I never see my son? If the person I'm living for dies, what then is the point of living? Don't you know that anybody who kills him has killed me? Here you are, talking about getting you wrapped around his finger. I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation," Amy said, staring at her

Amy couldn't believe she had tears welling up her eyes. She'd been holding up anger in her system, and she'd just blown it in Kayla's face.

She could see Kayla tearing up too.

This was actually why she didn't want to engage Kayla in any conversation.

Kayla came close to her and held her hand.

"Please, forgive me. Forgive me, Amy. For betraying you. For making light of the issue, despite the fact that it still meant a lot to you. Forgive me for everything. You don't know how sorry I am. I just can't take this silent treatment anymore. It's breaking my heart,"

"It's breaking mine too!" Kayla confessed, and they both laughed at each other. Amy had felt that she had to ignore her best friend for two whooping days.

"Let's not have a fight like this ever again,"

"I agree," Amy said as she cleaned her tears.

"You know what? I'll make dinner tonight. How about-"

Kayla was interrupted by a knock on the living room door.

"Are you expecting anyone?" Amy asked.

"Nope. You?"

"Not at all,"

"Let me go check who it is then," Amy stood up and left the room.

"I'm behind you,"

Amy reached the sitting room to see Tris focused on a kid's program showing on the TV. She ruffled his hair playfully before walking to the door.

The person knocked again before she could get there.

"Who's that?" She questioned on her way to the door, but she got no reply.

She unlocked the door and opened it, but at the sight of the person standing outside, she shut it immediately.

**

What was he doing here?! How did he even know this house?!

Amy's head was spinning. Her back was against the door like he was going to burst through the door.

How did he find this place?!!

Why today of all days?!

The one thing she was dreading was happening to her today!

She heard him knock again.

What? Did he think she'd let him into her house?

Never! He was going to knock until he was tired, and then he would go home!

She didn't want to open up, but he kept knocking relentlessly.

He was going to get the attention of the neighbors sooner or later, and there would be no point to keeping him outside. They knew she was at home, and they would either join him in knocking, or start ringing her phone.

She was running out of options!!

"Fuck!! Fuck!!" She whispered in frustration as she took her back of the door and unlocked it again.

She opened, but she immediately thought of closing again. Unfortunately for her, he'd set his foot into the house, so the door wouldn't shut.

Out of options, she took some steps back and let him in.

"Thank you destroying my twenty thousand dollar shoe with your ancient of days door-"

"What are you doing here?" She questioned him in a low but fierce tone, not wanting to attract Tris's attention.

She should've sent him inside, but it was too late now.

"I can't come see a highschool friend-"

"Don't give me that stupid bullshit! I'm not a fucking baby! I told you not to show yourself in my life again. I begged you to let me be! To act like we didn't exist! Why are you here?"

"We have unfinished business. We need to talk-"

"We don't need to talk about anything! Whatever happened in highschool ended there. There's no need to torment my life with your presence. I was living fine without you in my life, so I don't need you!"

"I know you hate me, and I understand. But I really need to see-"

"There's no one in this house that you need to see-"

"I want to see my son, goddammit!!" He yelled at her, losing his cool as she stared at him in shock
