Chapter 122: Chapter 122
Cole had parked his car a block away from Amy’s mother’s house. He was still contemplating on seeing her when he saw Liam’s car pull up in front of the house and Amy stepped out of the car. Jealousy had as immediately stung his heart as Liam got out of the car and gave her a hug before driving away.
Without thinking twice, he was out of his car, walking over to Amy. Before she could open the door to the house, he held her wrist. She had turned around in shock.
Regaining her composure, she flung his hand away. “What are you doing here?” She demanded.
“What are you doing, Amy? Did you break up with me just to go to Liam?” He fired. Consumed by his jealousy, he had toss aside the pleadings he had initially gone there for.
“What?” She inquired dumbfounded.
“I saw him hug you, Amy,” he replied.
“What the hell, Cole? He’s my friend. I went out with him just to hang out, and..” she paused when she realized she was talking too much. “I owe you no explanation,” she said and turned to walk away.
“Really? Is this it? Are you really leaving me?” He asked in hurt and anger. The way he said those words broke Amy, but she didn’t budge.
She turned around to face him. “I’ve said everything I need to say at the hospital,”
“You can’t possibly do this to me. We’re mates. Traditionally, you’re legally my wife,”
She swallowed as she pulled his ring off her finger. “That reminds me. Here,” she handed ring his back to him.
“If this binds us, then it’s broken,”
Cole couldn’t believe what was happening. Amy was truly leaving him.
“Amy, think about this…”
“I have, Cole. Laying on that hospital bed, fighting for my life as made me realize that I would never be at peace if I was with you,”
“I’m trying to be better. For you. For us! Can’t you see that?”
“It doesn’t change the fact that you have a crazy ex who’s after my life!”
“Amy, I…”
“I lost my baby, Cole. Don’t you get that?” Her voice broke.
“Don’t make it sound like it’s just you this affects. I’m hurt. The baby was mine too. I put her in there, remember?” He replied in the same tendency as hers.
Amy blinked back her tears. “It’s over, Cole. Good night,” she said and turned to leave once more.
“Why are you so selfish? You think of no one but yourself,” Cole vented out and she turned to look at him. “It’s always about you. Your emotions. How you feel. It’s always you, you, you and no one else,”
She swallowed. “If that’s how you feel, you should stay away from me,” She said, her heart in her throat.
“But, I can’t. I’m fucking stuck with you,” his voice broke as he walked closer to her. “All I see in everything is you,”
The tears Amy fought so hard to hold back threatened to surface. “It’s time we let each other go, Cole. We’re not good for each other,”
“We wouldn’t be mates if we weren’t, Amy,”
“Will you let me go willingly?” She asked him and he shook his head. She straightened up. “Then, I, Amy Scott hereby…”
“No..” his voice broke knowing what she was about to say.
“Reject you, Cole Darrel as my mate,” she finished off before he could stop her.
He fell to his knees as he felt their mate bond breaking. His life was hanging on a thin thread and she didn’t waste time to snap it off. His heart ached in pain and regret.
He looked up at her, his eyes red from pain. “Amy…”
She turned away and bolted into the house. Her hand was over her mouth as she tried to muffle her cries so no one would hear them as she leaned on the door and crumbled to the floor.
***Three month later***
Amy breathed in the scent of her mother’s roses in the garden. She felt peace in and out of her. Her mother was at the veranda with Tris and she could hear their laughter from where she was.
It’s been three months since she rejected Cole finally. Months filled with distress, yet she lived every day like she was not hurting. Despite her detachment from him, she didn’t restrict him from seeing Tris. There was no way she could severe the father and son bond.
Every time he was coming to see Tris or pick him up, she ensured she was not in the house so she wouldn’t see him. She knew her heart would not be able to handle seeing him again.
Despite the pleas from Mr Darrel, she stood her ground of not going back to Cole. He didn’t hurt her, but his past did. A past that would continue to haunt them if they stayed together.
She sighed. Kayla and Liam has been very supportive through her breakup with Cole, especially Liam. They had become extremely close and he was very nice to her. She was yet to give him an answer concerning his proposal, but just has he had said, he didn’t rush her to give him one.
At this point, she was beginning to contemplate giving him a trial. She needed to get Cole out of her mind and there was no better way to do so than to accept Liam’s proposal.
But, how would the world look at her? Moving from one best friend to another?
It wasn’t the world that would give her peace was it? She pondered deeply. She was conflicted. Should she be with Liam, a man who has brought her peace since she met him or should she be with Cole, a man who has caused havoc in her life?
She looked over at her son. He didn’t deserve all the turmoils happening in their lives. She wanted him to be happy. But, knowing Tris, he would pick his father over Liam. He was not very polite with Liam.
She sighed deeply. Soon, he would know she was making all the right decisions for him.

Cole buried himself in his work, living his misery in it. It was the only way to get Amy off his mind.
Yet, the media always found a way to bring her in it and make matters worse for him. It was either Amy was spotted in a coffee shop with Liam, or at the mall with him. He had decided to stay off the internet as rumors began to circulate that something could be going on between Liam and Amy.
He didn’t want to think about it, but no matter how he tried not to, he did.
“Alpha, the meeting is about to begin,” Greg said as he walked into the office.
“Go ahead, I’ll join you,” Cole replied and Greg nodded and walked away.
Cole closed his eyes briefly as he leaned in his seat. He wondered what Amy was doing.
~~~~~~~
Amy was seated in a restaurant with Liam. It was the perfect ambience and despite the perfection, she could not help but think of Cole. At a point, it was as if she envisioned him sitting before her. She smiled, but then reality struck her that it was Liam that was before her.
“I know I said I wouldn’t pressure you into giving me an answer, but…” he began to say.
“No, it’s fine, Liam. I’ve accepted your proposal,” she replied with a little smile.
Liam’s eyes lit. “So, you won’t mind getting married to me?” He asked.
The question took her aback. “Don’t you think we’re going too fast?”
“It’s not too fast for me, Amy. I’ve been in love with you since high school. It’s been years. To me, it would be a dream come true,”
“What would people say?”
“Let me worry about that,” he replied as he went on his knees and brought out a ring. “Will you marry me, Amy Scott?” He asked, his eyes full of promises and optimism.
Amy was surprised that he had a ring with him. She couldn’t turn him down. Maybe this could symbolize a new beginning. Make her forget Cole.
“Yes, I’ll marry you,” she found herself saying.
In delight, he slipped the ring on her finger and placed a kiss on her lips. As his lips touched hers, Amy couldn’t help but feel she was doing the wrong thing.
