Chapter 42: Chapter 42
Michael Angelo
5 years…
I sighed my frustration out as I was going through so much paperwork again.
These damn files have not gone down since yesterday, and I am starting to think that I am neglecting my duties for the hundredth time today.
Maybe,
Maybe not…
To tell you frankly, I was just being distracted, that's all.
I sighed once again.
No more excuses!
I got to set myself straight so to start, I rolled my sleeves up to my upper arm and took another set of files bind in a folder from my pile.
Thus, I started.
Unexpectedly, Rocky, my friend, and Gamma dash inside my office door and hide behind my chair.
I shot him a bewildered look.
When he did not answer me and motioned me to be quiet, and seeing that he was scared while eyeing my chamber door, tells me what was really happening.
I could only shake my head in amusement.
He did it again, I thought.
As silence creeps inside the space, I set down my documents and waited for the disaster to unfold.
On cue, the door to my office chamber came flying open for the second time and this time, a little girl wearing a floral dress stepped in.
Even with her face contorted into anger and was growling menacingly, while holding her half-eaten cookie, she looks cute as her black hair was tied into a bun and her chubby cheeks huffing and puffing.
Very adorable…
Then, on instinct, her familiar hazel brown eyes search the space and when it landed on me, she gave me the cutest dimpled smile.
I smiled back at her.
Very adorable, indeed.
Her joy was cut short when her eyes caught movement behind my back. When she saw that it was my Gamma, her face went from an innocent little girl to the most fierce little she-wolf.
“Uncle Ocky!” she roars and it was the precious roar I have ever heard that I couldn't help but chuckle.
“Millie! I'm so sorry!” Rocky apologizes dramatically and started running only to be chased by a furious pup.
And there goes the cat and mouse chase again.
I know Rocky was just playing with her as he runs with a speed according to the one the child could only exert. Then, like he always does when Millie caught his legs, he pretends to trip and fall.
Millie took the chance and completely pins down the man to the ground. She then sits on the man's chest while crossing her arms in front of her.
“Uncle Ocky, do not take my cookie!” she scolds and how adorable she sounds with the alpha tone.
“Come on, Millie, I didn't mean to. The cookie was just so good.” Rocky reasons and Millie growls.
“Then go get one in the kitchen. Not eat mine while I'm eating it.” Millie reprimands.
Rocky whines.
“But your Grandma Nile doesn't allow me to have one, says it's all for you.”
Millie glares at him.
“Then ask me for it. Don't bite one from my hand.”
Rocky snorts.
“That's the problem, you don't share… not even once.” he then pouts.
Millie gasped.
“I do share!” she yells.
“No, you don't,” Rocky argues.
“Yes, I do!”
“Nope.”
“Yes!”
“No!”
She growls and I finally took her from my Gamma's chest with a chuckle.
“Stop pissing Millie off, Rocky,” I stated.
Rocky raises his hand in surrender as he stood up from the ground.
“It's not my fault your kid is a hot-headed one,” he laughs and Millie growled again.
Rocky's eyes widened and raised his hands higher.
Seeing this, Millie huffed and puffed her cheeks in satisfaction. Then, she hid her small head on my neck as I playfully glare at my Gamma.
Rocky could only roll his eyes.
For those who got the hint, yes, you heed it right, I do have a child…
Millie Annabeth Cane.
She's turning four soon and blessed as I was, she's a child I had with my second chance mate who, as upsetting as it may be, died after giving birth to her, four years ago.
It was a miracle, to say the least, because when you have a second chance mate, they have a low probability of bearing a child — most especially when it's an Alpha's child.
Thankfully, with Anna — my second chance, I was granted a healthy and lively heir.
Anna Felicity Aberdeen.
I met the lady when I was in the midst of grieving for Nala's death…
I was so lost and so lifeless when I lost my true mate to a stupid kind of law that the Hue Kingdom had.
Being clouded by anger and revenge, a war broke out between us two races. But, for the grief it had brought too to the Vampire King, he did not answer my call of conflict and in return, the war became cold.
Leading me to sulk and mope to my castle, until Anna happened.
I know it may sound too fast but we got married in the middle of the year of my grievance and had Millie at the end of it.
Fast as it was, but I wouldn't change this for anything.
Particularly, Millie… I love the child with all my heart.
Suddenly, the door to my chambers swing open for the third time, and rushing in was Lucky, my Beta.
I quickly took notice of his expression; he looked alarmed.
“Alpha! Rogues at the North border!” he reports and without another word, we ran out of my office.
Oh, Goddess, not the North border.
That part of the border held most of our food resources and even if I had placed strong warriors there, they can't handle a huge mob of wild rogues — most especially when it was the hungry ones.
“Michael! Give me Millie!” I heard my Mom called.
Shit!
Almost forgot.
I instantly handed a whimpering Millie to my mother.
“Daddy!” my little girl called but I was already out of the door.
The two men and I shortly shifted to our wolves and soon after, I felt the presence of Jay and two more warriors following us.
Upon arriving at the forest ground, where the problem would have been, I prepared to jump into the chaos only to find that there was none.
That baffled me.
Where are the rogues?
My eyes slowly scanned the wide field of grass and found bodies piled up together and blood had covered some of the greenery.
The rogues.
All of them, I counted fifteen, are all but dead…
What in the world?
They have all been killed; throat slits and some were shot in the head by an arrow.
That is odd but quite amazing if you thought about it fully.
Nonetheless, who did it?
A whimper to my right caught me and my men's attention and when our heads snapped in the direction of the sound, we all stood in full awareness.
Not because a rogue was being choked by hand, but because a woman was the one doing it.
Her back was facing us and when I narrowed my wolf eyes at her exposed skin, I caught sight of lupine bluebonnet flower tattoos scattered on her back.
That's a label for rogue killers.
That means the woman's a rogue killer…
Make sense, acknowledging that she had killed all of fifteen rogues in just ten minutes — the time of our travel and in a run, from the palace to this location.
Furthermore, as I take in her full appearance, I noticed that she was wearing a tulle white lace dress.
Very fancy looking for a warrior like her and even if she was in a battle earlier, the dress she wore was clean.
She was that skillful, I thought.
The woman must have sensed our presence, finally, for her body had gone rigid. Then, the knuckles of her hand, the one that was holding a bow, was turning white from the pressure.
Something tells me she hates an audience…
Hence, she turned her slim and toned body, almost reluctantly, towards us.
And everything around me stood still when I saw who it was.
“Nala?”
