Chapter 40: Chapter 40
Legaxy
I phoned my parents that I will be dropping by their workspace today in the Hue Kingdom.
Recognizing that I have something to tell them, they agreed and told me just to come to their office door once I arrived.
I agreed and made my way to the castle.
My plan was really simple today.
I will ask my parents about pieces of information regarding my first day here; who, aside from them, had been doing the background check on me, or who has noticed my arrival in the palace.
I needed to know because it must be among those people that knew I was the Alpha King's mate and even if it was dangerous, he let me stay here.
For what reasons it might be, I know he let me be here in the lion's den in the attempts of trying to get me killed, to get the Werewolf King to be weakened further — aside from their attempts of letting my mate see me fall at that cliff.
I know there's a foul play and I will find it… if it's even the last thing I do before being punished.
Unexpectedly, as I took my first step on the palace grounds, I was greeted by two palace guards and told me to come with them.
Thinking that it was from my parents getting me an escort to their office — since I almost got lost when I visit them once, I followed them and only been lead to the Mixed Race's Council room.
My heart throbbed nervously inside my chest.
This… does not feel… right.
“Ah, Princess Dyme. How are you, my lady?” Elder Paul, a white-headed old man and one of the council member's greeted with a nod.
I did my curtsy and bow — feeling awkward doing it while wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants — before anxiously replying an “I am fine Elder Paul, thank you for asking.”
He nodded a reaction before turning to his colleagues.
They are only three council members sitting in the Hue Kingdom's thrones and all have different purposes solely focus on the development and improvement of the Palace.
Elder Paul, the one who just welcomed me and also a Vampire, was the one in charge of the Hue Kingdom's decision-making process when it comes to feeding and agriculture.
He brings food to our tables.
Elder Holly, the only woman, and witch, was the one in charge of our health and medicines, making sure everyone is healthy and alive.
She brings wellness to our homes.
And the rest of the concerns of the palace falls to Elder Kolby, who is all high and mighty among the council.
He keeps things balanced and in order in this place — he's also Theo's most trusted adviser.
“Do you know why you are here, Prinsesa? (Filipino term for Princess)” Elder Kolby asks in a low, husky tone. His black hair was brushed up, exposing his crooked nose.
“I do not know, Elder Kolby,” I stated but deep inside I had a hunched that this was about me being marked and mated.
They may not admit it but I know they could smell the Alpha King's scent on me and even if I hide the mark, I know Elder Kolby could see.
He has the gift of sight.
“There were rumors about you, Princess.” Elder Paul started with this bored expression.
He knows but being inside the council chamber, he wishes to be formal.
Elders, I almost rolled my eyes.
“Rumors that we wish to know if it's the truth or not,” Elder Holly begins again sounding concerned with me.
Among the Elders, Elder Holly has been a close friend of mine. She's my mother's childhood friend and my godmother when I was baptized to this place.
“Can you be more specific Elder — ”
Suddenly, the door to the chambers opened and came dragging in by the guards are my family.
No, shit!
Mum and Dad had the look of annoyance and when they turn their heads to me, the horror-stricken because of fear appeared in their faces.
They must have smelled it…
The same goes for the boys but instead of horror, they look worried and upset.
I flash a smile at them, trying to comfort them, but they turn and look away.
That hurt.
“So the family is here,” Elder Kolby announces and with a spread of his jet black wings, he flew towards my parents.
Almost forgot that this individual was a black angel and instead of the ones who had fallen from the heavens, he came from hell.
Why a Black Angel now?
Well, the mixed-race wanted someone to equalize things out for them, especially when it comes to finances and employment.
Fortunately, Elder Kolby knows a lot of those things and after being left to die by his companions after a war between other angels, he entered the Hue Kingdom and offered his self in seek of shelter and food.
As open as this place was for various species, they accepted him and a century later, became an Elder to the Kingdom.
Much like my story but the difference was, I am mortal.
“Family Dyme, you must know that the human child you have raised has committed a crime.” Elder Kolby declares openly while slowly stalking my parents.
Mum and Dad didn't answer for they already know about this, but their eyes are stuck on me, motivating me to be strong and not allow fear to dominate me in doing the right thing.
Just like the first day they have met me…
Elder Kolby sighed.
“So you wish to settle this crime in silence? You all know that's not the right thing to do here,” he started to drag out a sword from his back — his sword used in killing sinners in hell, “Your love for that child had brought your family disgrace and shame… I mean, seriously? Among the werewolf community, your child was mated to the Alpha King? The man who our race despised?”
And just like that, Elder Kolby place the blade on Mum's neck.
My eyes widened in horror.
“Now, tell us Prinsesa?” he tilts his head to the side, “Are you, aside from being a mate to a werewolf, let alone the Alpha King, is now mated and marked?”
I don't answer. My eyes were on Mum, who was motioning me not to say anything.
“Just tell the truth, Princess Legaxy. We have other matters to deal with aside from you.” Elder Paul rudely states, earning snarls from my tensed Dad and brothers; all men were both in an attack and protective stance.
Elder Kolby held the blade closer to Mum's neck.
“Speak, little prinsesa, or your so-called Mother will have to suffer for the mistakes you have made.” he taunts.
My body trembled in both anger and terror but I held my tongue only to speak soon after as I saw Elder Kolby about to run the sword on Mum's neck.
“Yes! I am!” I screamed.
“What did you say, Prinsesa?” Elder Kolby mocks, amusement clear in his eyes.
He's freaking enjoying this?
Crazy black angel elder!
“Yes, I am.” I admitted, “I am mated to the Alpha King and now, fully marked and mated.”
Satisfied, the black-headed elder nodded his head.
“So, that's settled then.” Elder Kolby hid his sword, “Elders Paul and Holly, would you please announce Legaxy Dyme's death by the gallows this afternoon. While for this morning, I will have my time with her and have a little fun…” he finishes and a hint of threat can be heard on his tone.
The two only nodded and left.
Shortly after, the black-headed elder, without another word, flew towards me. He then grabbed a fist of my hair and started dragging me out of the chamber.
“No! She was lying! Elder Kolby, stop!” I heard Mum and Dad yell.
I peeked through my aching position and saw my parents being dragged as well by several guards to the other side of the room.
“Hailey!”
“Boo!”
“Flower!”
I heard my brothers call and when I shifted my gaze from our parents to look at them, I saw that they were trying to free themselves from the guards' hold as they were being yanked out of the room as well.
Tears began to fall from my face and Elder Kolby caught it.
“Pity, but you should have been known better Legaxy,” he coldly stated, and spreading his wings, he flew us out of the room and down to the dungeon.
“What did you expect! He was my mate, we have a mate bond!” I shout and struggle as we flew down the abyss like a dungeon.
I heard him snort.
“We have healers who could break that bond, child. You should have just told us and we could have done something to save you.” he rationalized, “but no, you let it happen and now you're going to die for it.”
“It's not fair! This is how it should be because the Moon Goddess picked us to be together!” I yell and he only rolled his eyes.
When we arrived at the place, he quickly chained me up to the wall; my back was facing him. He then tore up my sweatshirt, exposing my back.
“Mate bond or not, you were meant to die, Ms. Garcia.” he snarls and before I could react to him after heeding my REAL last name roll over his tongue, I heard a sound of a whip, and soon after, it hit my naked back.
I screamed and all I could think about then was Mikee.
Theo
“How is she, Kolby?” I question a bored-looking elder while he lit his cigarette.
He may be the elder of this Kingdom and lived a thousand years, more than I have been, but he is still under me so I don't call him by his title.
He doesn't mind though and after puffing off thick smoke, he answers, “She's fine. I only gave her thirty hits.”
I snapped my head at him and shot him a glare.
“Thirty?”
He rolls his eyes.
“You know, it should have been a hundred Theo,” he huffs and puffs a smoke, “but seeing as you begged for thirty, I conceded and now fucking accept it.”
My jaw clenched at that and nodded at him to open the door leading to the cell, where Legaxy was being held captive at.
I already heard about the crime from Kolby and be confirmed by Jacob, whom I should mention pleaded his child's case.
I know I was the Vampire King but my authority and power have their limit, especially when it comes to the council.
My people put them there, not me.
So if ever I petitioned Legaxy's case to get her out of the circumstance, I can't and even if I love her, the people already decided and for that, I could only agree as to their King.
I let out a sigh of frustration.
When we reached the said space, I saw that Legaxy was on her knees while her hands were bound by chains. Her breathing was heavy but low and her eyes were closed.
She must be sleeping the pain away…
Then, when my eyes travel to her back since she was kneeling sideways, I saw it was full of both old and new lash marks.
It was almost dark from too much blood…
I growled.
Kolby ignored me and handed me the key to Legaxy's cell.
“So, I'll give you five minutes.” he started, “You should be out here after that time ends or you'll hate me forever if you found out my next punishment for her.” he finishes with a wink.
I roared at him.
“Why are you such an asshole?” I commented.
His smirk only deepened.
“Oh, shut up. You are no better… hiding the truth from her that you actually killed her parents during a hunting trip.”
My head snapped back at him and before I could even react, he flew out of the room.
I let out another sigh.
Yes, and I know I couldn't bring the past back, but you heard Kolby.
I have killed my chosen RED's parents at one of my hunting trips…
It was unintentional and by nature. Though, it was still a mistake resulting in her being forced to live a life in the lion's den.
That's why I came back, to try and make my amends.
I know I should have just stayed and kept my eyes on her, to keep her from being touched by that dog. But business awaits and I can't let an opportunity go to waste like that.
Yet, it was a wrong move and here I am, feeling guilty as ever for leaving her. And now that I've discovered that she was fully mated, I can't stake a claim on her otherwise I break it by a spell.
But would I do it?
Just to have what I want?
I fiddle the necklace from my pocket and felt its rock warm on my touch.
Suddenly, I heard Legaxy groaned.
She was in pain!
I quickly opened the door to the cell. Then, I kneeled beside her and cupped her face in my hands.
“Love?”
She groans again and tries to open her eyes.
“Love, it's me,” I whisper.
“Mi — kee,” she croaks and my body stilled.
I only pushed past through it when she groans again.
“Love, it's me… it's Theo,” I cooed, and just like that, her eyes shot open.
“Theo?” she mutters.
I smiled at that.
“Yes, love. It's me.”
She sniffs and without warning, tears fall from her eyes.
I panic and took the chains off of her. Then, it may look awkward, I cradled her to my chest while rocking her back and forth as I sat on the cold floor.
“Shh, it's okay love. I'm here.” I soothe her and she only whimpers.
“I'm sorry, Theo.” she finally says after a minute of whimpering and crying.
“No love, it's me who is sorry because — ”
“No Theo, it's not.” she sobs and this time, she raised her head from my chest to gaze at me, “I'm the one who chooses… and I chose Mikee.”
I didn't say a word.
Not because I was speechless of her declaration but because of the look in her eyes.
She submitted to the punishment… She accepted this fate as a good girl and I hate it.
“Why did you chose him, Love? I am here, I am the one who wants you. Not him.” I snarl at the last word that I felt her flinch.
“I love him, Theo.” she states and my heart shatters, “Even after the mate bond, I love him and I forgive him,” she tells me and I felt furious.
“He doesn't deserve you, Legaxy. He took his chances with you and he blew it. He does not deserve a second chance.” I hugged her but she pushed me away.
She then shook her head, telling me NO.
I gently took her from my lap and placed her on the floor. Then, I started pacing in the room.
“Why, Legaxy? You know by loving him, you put yourself in danger… in death. Why love him when you can love me? I am the better man here.” I snap and she whimpers.
“He's my mate, Theo. We are bound by soul. While you, you only love me because you see Casmine in me — ”
“That is not true!” I yell and she glares at me.
“Then tell me why you have taken an interest in me without saying it was because you have seen your wife's face and body in me.” she challenges and I became silent.
Shit!
“You see what I mean?” I heard Legaxy sighs, “That is why I can't love you the way you wanted me to, Theo. While for Mikee, he loves me the way I am, and even if this love for him leads me to death, then so be it.” she smiles, “All I want is for him to be safe.”
I snarled at Legaxy's declaration.
“You are a fool, Legaxy, ”
And I just wanted you to be like that for me, I thought.
“Then I am, for Mikee — ”
Before she could say anything, I slammed my lips on hers and with a quick motion, slipped the silver necklace on her.
“This is my farewell, little one. I will see you… soon.” I stated and left.
She will be mine…
