Chapter 9: Chapter 9
CHAPTER 9
ROXANNE
“What in the hell are you doing?"
The sound of the guard entering the room startled me, with my head swirling and my heart thudding heavily I let the metal clatter to the ground.
The sight of the tall man with dangling keys sent jitters through my nerves, I sat still not sure of what to do or the right words to say at that moment.
“I … I .” I stuttered confused about what to say at that moment.
" What were you trying to do?” He questioned.
His eyes came down to the spot that had a bit of red where it had barely pierced through. The realization of what was about to happen hit him as he stared into my rather flustered face.
His palm swiped across my face and I could feel a stinging pain on my chin.
"Do you know how complicated this would have been?” He spat the words out immediately and I could see how furious he was.
I muttered only words I could at the moment hoping that the whole issue doesn't become more escalated than it already was.
" Please, have mercy I… "
The rest of my words were buried beneath the stinging pain that sent me to the ground with the feeling of anguish.
“There is nothing like pity or sympathy, you'll face the course of your actions."
At that minute my mind faded to a whiter shade of paleness that was so light that I could feel every other emotion become as darkness.
Watching the gate of the dungeon open left me with the thought of running, it felt like the only other way out of the situation.
“There might be a way to keep all of this secret." He smirked hard as he spoke.
The thought of what he had just said filled me with a thrill, my face lifted immediately with renewed hope as I thought the entire situation through again.
“What do you want?" I asked. Deep in my heart I felt a bit of disdain for the man standing closer than he should.
" You.” He grimaced.
His hands came up to the side of my face and caught a bit of the strand that had escaped.
Licking his lips I could understand what he had said earlier—In annoyance at the entire situation, my eyes narrowed slightly
before glancing back at him in a glare and hoping it wouldn’t get me killed.
“Sorry, I can't."
The man's gaze hardened a flicker to show he didn’t like it, but after a second of heavy eye contact, he returned his gaze to where I stood still like a leaf blowing by.
“You have no choice here … You know that right, it is either my choice or nothing.”
I let out the breath I was holding. “ That is good." He muttered when he noticed I wasn't hesitating.
He pressed me up against the side of the wall and had me bent sharply, he had his arm around me pulling me closer to himself. He was staring at me, and it was making me feel
extremely uncomfortable. I’m not used to feeling uncomfortable…
He kissed me down the nape of my neck—
His hands were slipping downward.
My hands came down stopping him. “Please don't."
His hands came at my face again hitting me hard, this time I fell to the ground. The spoon from earlier sparkled underneath the moonlight.
My hand grasped the spoon, when he came closer this time to plant kisses I pushed the sharp end of the spoon into his neck.
He pulled his face away—a face now covered with blood. With blood pouring down his neck; his blood splashed over as he backed away.
I watched as this nearly six-foot man fell to the ground first with a knee then his entire body. He let out a scream as if he had been shot, as I scrambled to my feet and made a mad dash toward the front door of the dungeon.
I looked back at him and watched him with a bemused expression on my face, I slipped to the heavy door and I thought that was going to be it.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The sound of footsteps approaching my direction made my heart beat heavily. At first, I thought I wanted to turn back but the catastrophe that awaited me filled my mind with fear.
In the need to escape, I had sneaked Into the only other opened door at that premises.
A foul odor filled the air, from the buzzing of flies and the heavy offensive scent that filled the room it was obvious where I was.
For a minute I hesitated, I had lived in palaces like this too long to know there is always an outlet, so I took a deep breath and let it out.
Not thinking twice about what I was about to do I let myself in—
A couple of minutes later I was out. The moonlight lifted my face immediately as I crawled out of the sewage, something in my mind whooshed with a loud grieving noise that I was making a grave mistake but I was quick to shut it all down.
I knew I had fucked up, there was no going back in all of these; yet with the sound of the growl from earlier, I could tell it was only a matter of time before they come looking.
.
Soon my legs were starting to burn from running frantically in the dark. The tiny light from the moon that once illuminated my path was starting to dim out
Were they after me now?
I couldn't stop thinking, the sudden realization that they could be after me filled my mind with fear and I hastened my steps.
In the distance, the dark outline of a cabin
shines in the dark and I followed it, narrowly avoiding tripping over my own feet.
It got darker and all windy which was to my greatest joy. It started to rain, washing away my scent and tracks.
My shoes clack against the wooden steps of the porch of the cabin that was almost ruined, as rain drips down my neck and drenched my hair to the floor. I tried not once, but twice, to shove the door down.
On the third try, I could almost give up…
Fighting back tears, I looked back at the distance that I had been coming from and tried again, this time I burst through the door, maniacally flipping on the ground exhausted.
I burst into heavy tears and screamed in frustration.
With a heavy gasp, I curled —dragging my knees to my chest.
Questions popped into my mind repeatedly, most prominent of them demanding to know how far I was…
Would he ever find me?
Soon I was sleeping.
RYKER
We had barely been seated for twenty minutes when the whole madness happened, as it was
I had summoned the Council about the most underlying issue at hand which had to do with a woman that was right there in the dungeon.
The screeching noise from a wolf filled the air distracting the entire procedure and making me glance around the room staring at the faces of the men who were around the table with me to be certain they'd heard it too.
Seeing that they had the same look of curiosity in their eyes as they cast me cautious glances, they became stiffer than the chairs they sat on.
“Go check what is going on," I ordered the two other guards that were in the room with me.
Left to my thoughts alone, I wanted her gone. The fact that my wolf was getting the urge to be closer to her every single second since she had arrived made me furiously frustrated.
I watched the men leave, still feeling a bit of anxiety from the entire situation.
Leaning back, I rested a forearm on the table and focused my gaze on the cup on the table that was already halfway while I rolled a coin between my fingers like I had always done habitually when tensed.
In some way I was furious, my anger these days was justified by my wolf not being submissive like it should be and acting quite all irrationally.
The anger was strong enough that I had to choke it down with another gulp from my cup, letting down the entire drink and slamming the cup back at the table with a thud; I let the feeling burn in my throat, in my chest— marrying my entire thought.
My eyes skimmed up an inch to find one of the guards that I had sent away walking back to the room with worry over his face and wiping a hand across his mouth in a poor attempt to hide his amusement.
My gaze darkened. “What is wrong, where is X and where is the woman?”
He locked eyes with me, as I sat back in my chair, my humor fading. I had thought I would go through today without any altercations but as it was starting to look like the entire issue seemed more complicated to me the more I sat still on that spot.
The more furious I got, I thought I’d end up decapitating his goddamn head.
“Have you suddenly gone dead or something where the goddamn woman is?"
“X is dead Alpha." His lips quivered as he spoke.
I was filled with rage and at the same time confused about the entire situation. I thought it through again… if X was dead, where was the Auburn- woman?
“And the captive."
“She …is gone." He stuttered.
