Chapter 31: Chapter 31
CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
RYKER
Guilt.
It was a feeling that consumed my entire being and made me shut myself from the world for three days.
Okay that was exaggerated. I didn't shut myself from the world but I didn't go to see Roxanne.
I was already having a tough time dealing with Selina, and Roxanne— she just had to make it worse. It never got better with her.
Was she a curse from the moon goddess? To ruin my life? Was that why she was given to me as a mate to make me insufferable? She didn't know anything about me other than the rumours but the way she had spoken about my mother terrified me.
Roxanne terrified me. She looked like my mother. Behaved like her.
And my mother was someone I never wanted to talk about. There were memories about her that I tried to bury away but Roxanne, she just seemed to wake it up.
But if Roxanne had seen my mother, then it meant one thing; Roxanne was a seer pretending to be a white moon clan.
White moon packs were the healers and blue Moon were the only ones who could see visions.
What if it had all been a plan? But it couldn't have. They had no idea I was going to attack but what if it was planned. She was the only white moon with red hair and Jesus! She doesn't even know my mom.
Perhaps that was their way to bring me down. Through Roxanne and the way she had insisted I kill her— I've never seen anything like that.
“That woman is really crazy,” Dante said.
“Dude get the fuck out of my mind.”
“You need to accept that we're stuck and you can't get rid of me.”
“You can't even let me think straight without you interrupting.”
“You're just shy, our mate gave you the heat yesterday.
And that was the problem. Maybe I was really sick. But arguing with Roxanne turned me on. It made me crave her and I was undeniably hot yesterday. I wanted her. And she wouldn't stop talking which made it harder for me to concentrate.
“Well you could have given her a kiss…That's what they do.”
“Dante are you crazy?” I tossed a ping pong ball. “Have you seen that girl? She's wacko.”
“And that's what makes her hot.”
“What kind of person kisses a girl without their permission?”
“They like it and Roxanne does seem like the type to ask for it.”
“Well maybe that Roxanne in your head but the one I know of, wouldn't ask but she'll cut off your lips when you do.”
“Next time you're in the heat, kiss her.”
Jesus. My wolf is an idiot.
“She doesn't even know we're mates,” I reminded.
Dante was quiet for a while. As if in thoughts. “Do we like her? She's feisty and really tender too.”
“I don't want to have anything to do with her, Dante. And that woman isn't tender. She's a beast.”
“Brother, you've gotta fix that jealousy. Seems someone doesn't like his women taking the lead all the time.”
“I'm the Alpha okay, and Roxanne she's just the psychopath I brought into my life with my own hands,” I said in frustration.
“It's too late to fix it now and too early to be frustrated.”
I snickered. “I'm sexually frustrated and I'm angry all the time. She makes it so hard to be tough. Almost feels like she's pulling a me on me.”
“Let me guess. You don't like it?”
I paused. “Why do you make it sound like I'm bad luck?”
“What are we doing about her wolf?”
I shrugged. “I have to get it out somehow. If the goddess doesn't give it willingly then I would force it out of her.”
“How though?”
“Intense training or sex.”
“You're just horny. Plus, it would take you ages to get into Roxanne's pants.”
I growled. “Because she doesn't like me?”
“That's the first and secondly, she doesn't even know you're a thing. I mean, who treats his mate the way you did her?”
Dante went quiet, leaving me pondering on his question. Why did I feel weird that Roxanne was pulling a me on me. I hated it when she did that but I loved it when I did.
Perhaps that was how people saw me.
But I couldn't care.
My office door was forced open and Miles came in bearing piles of documents which he discarded on the table.
“Pardon, Alpha, I thought you were in your bedroom and my hands were occupied so I couldn't knock.”
“What files are these?” I asked, eyeing the pile warily.
“Every incomplete contract. I've done most of the work on it. All they need is for you to review it and sign.”
“Okay I'll go through them tonight.”
Miles hesitated. “Alpha?”
I turned around and gazed at him. “How can I help you, Beta Miles?”
“Selina—”
“Not a word about Selina,” I warned.

ROXANNE
I had a tough time falling asleep. It had rained through the night and these heartless monsters couldn't give me a blanket. Cold bit at my skin and I wondered what asshole's idea it was to leave the window open in the first place.
It seemed dark outside. There was no moonlight, just the sound of rain on the ground and my teeth chattering as I lay shivering on the bed.
I was liable to catch a cold because I didn't have my wolf yet. For other wolves it was easier. During the cold, their coats gave them warmth.
But me, I would have to wrap myself in ten blankets.
This was the part where I wished I had superpowers. If I did, I would have broken free from this chain and ran away.
Far away.
The sound of crows woke me up. I groaned out loudly. I didn't know when I fell asleep but I was sure it wasn't for a long time. Why does it have to be whenever I'm trying to sleep something makes a sound?
I forced my heavy eyelids apart and glanced at the window.
Still dark.
I closed my eyes again and the sound of the crow pierced the silence, reaching my ears. And this time, it was closer.
I opened my eyes and turned my head to the direction where the noise was coming from. As though it was a dream, the crow was perched on the table beside my bed— watching me.
“Fuck,” I muttered, “what the fuck?”
If there was one thing I knew about crow's, it was that they are bad omens.
I'm done with creepy animals sneaking into my room from nowhere.
“Shoo,” I said, trying to chase it away with the only weapon I had, which is my mouth. “I understand you're cold. I'm cold too and the difference between us both is that I'm bound but you're not. So go away, I need my sleep.”
But it seemed as though I spoke in another language because the crow leaned in closely till it was at eye level with me.
“Get away you piece of…” I trailed off when I stared into the crow's eyes and saw red moon in flames.
It's not real
I strained my eyes to look closely and indeed it was redmoon and it was in flames.
Close your eyes and breathe and the image would leave.
When I looked deeper, I saw a tree that had been cut down and burnt and on it sat another black crow which stared right back at me, through the eyes of the other bird.
Then I saw— me.
This is not real. You're not real.
I was holding a fire torch and a sword that was covered in blood. My dress was also covered in blood and people fell around me, slain.
And then, I woke up.
But I could swear I didn't imagine it. The bird had been right in front of me. But now as I open my eyes, I'm hit with the blinding light of the sun.
I was breathing heavily as I looked around and didn't see any birds. There was no bird.
“What?” I whispered in fear.
Why did I keep having dreams where I hurt people?
And then, suddenly it happened so fast. Something hit my window and fell in. I craned my neck to the side and saw a crow. It lay lifeless on the floor and stiff. As though it had died from the cold.
Before I could understand what was happening, a crow flew in through the window and aimed at me.
“Don't,” I whispered. But what bird understood wolf language?
It began pecking at my skin and I cried out in pain, shaking my body violently in an attempt to get it off.
But my effort was futile.
More and more crows flew in and began attacking me. I fought hard, ignoring the cuffs tearing at my skin. I cried out and pulled at the cuffs till it gave out.
After an intense pull, I was able to break the cuffs from the bed posts. I freed both my hands and slapped at the birds hard, with all the strength I could muster. Just to get them away from me .
“Roxanne stop,” I heard Ryker scream but I ignored him.
It was his fault these things were pecking me and why wasn't he doing anything to stop it.
“Why do you have the hand of a warrior?” He asked and I stopped when I realised I was no longer hitting a bird or birds.
When I opened my eyes, the Alpha was towering over me.
