Chapter 30: Chapter 30
CHAPTER THIRTY
ROXANNE
My meeting with my brother was the absolute worst, and Ryker? I loathed him with every fibre in my body. All I wanted was to break out and tell him what a horrible person he was.
Although he knew that.
I tried not to think about the mean things Zane said to me but the more I pondered on it, the more I saw the reality. Was Ryker really keeping me here to die because I was worthless?
He should have killed me. He's always wanted to know what was keeping him from doing it? If I was dead, I would have been fed grapes by angels while I told them how horrible earth is.
Without notice, Ryker walked into the room, almost too calm for someone of his nature. I desperately wanted to turn away from him but the damn cuffs wouldn't even give me freedom of movement. Perfect.
He hovered over me, eyes looking me over and settling on my eyes. I swallowed, “Do you do anything other than stare?”
“That's the second best thing I've heard today. Thank you,” he said grinning before pulling a stool out to sit.
Retard.
“How do you feel?” He asked, searching my eyes.
“Not like you care.”
“Please, we're not doing this today,” he said.
“Perhaps you should have thought about it before asking my brother over,” I said.
“You don't believe I wrote that letter, now. Do you?” He asked.
I rolled my eyes. “It had your insignia.”
He sighed.“It's pointless arguing.”
“I feel like I'm ready to meet my parents, they loved giving me meat. All you give me is tea and soup. I'm not old, if I'm dying, it's only fair that I die with tasty steak in my mouth.” I said and smiled at the last words.
“What makes you think you are dying?” He asked.
“Look at me, my wounds are rotten, I'm not healing, I'm running mad, I'll be glad to die.” I said, stating the obvious.
Ryker reached out and touched my cheek. I couldn't stop him. Not like I had the chance to, anyway. “In all this chaos what you can only think about is food?”
I shrugged, “What should I think of? Kissing your balls?”
He grinned, so wide he made my stomach churn.“That'd be nice too.”
“You're sick.”
“That makes us two,” then his smile faded and his steely look returned.
“I'm sorry about today, Roxanne. I know you don't want to talk about it but I promise I didn't write that letter. It was Selina.”
“Who is selina?” She asked, arching her brow.
I swallowed. “My sister.”
“And why would your sister write a letter and use your insignia?”
He swallowed. “She was worried about you. Scared you'll die and uh that's not what I'm here for.”
I nodded. Someone I didn't know was worried about me? That's weird.
“I came to ask you questions” He stated, “about the woman you claimed to have seen” he concluded.
My eyes met his this time.“What about her? I thought you said no one came in, what makes you believe there is a woman all of a sudden?” I asked.
“Roxanne,” he started softly. “The woman you said you saw, the woman you described— is my mother.”
I shook my head, “Did someone dig up her graveyard? I mean, she's been dead for ages.”
“No one saw her for years, but I need to know if you really saw her” He muttered, confusion clear in his eyes.
“I saw a tall woman with red hair, green eyes, freckles on her cheeks and she was wearing a long brown dress. She could be anyone,” I said.“when did your mum die?”
“Years ago. She was murdered by your brother” he said with hostility in his eyes
“That's why you locked me up? Some sort of let the sister carry her brother's cross? Because Zane is needed to lead the pack and I'm just a burden?” I laughed hysterically.
His face hardened.“You don't know anything.”
“You're right. All I know is that I'm being tormented in this bed for people's sin.”
“Did she say anything?” He asked.
“She said a whole lot,” I answered.
“Tell me, what did my mother say?” He leaned forward.
“I'll tell you but let's strike a deal, you'll let me go out of this room twice a week and I won't be cuffed anymore,” I proposed.
“What makes you think I'll strike a deal with you?” He sneered.
“So that's a no then. I guess your mother is not important enough” I shrugged, ignoring the pain in my shoulders.
“Are you forgetting where you are? I can kill you and my people will celebrate. I have many ways to kill people like you, don't test me,” he pressed his finger into one of my injuries
I stared at him, holding his gaze, knowing how disrespectful it is.
“You can't threaten me alpha” I mocked him.
“I have tasted death more than I have tasted life. Kill me and I'll probably rejoice. I'll be free from your shackles and I'll be happy. Do you know why? It's because I'd rather be fried to death or burnt down than be in your presence willingly. You are a sorry excuse of a man and a shame to other alphas.”
“You are too scared to kill me and too much of a chicken to let me live. So go ahead, kill me in whatever way you please. Relieve me of my burdens,” I whispered close to his ear, too confident for my own good.
He kept on staring at me, not saying a word or moving but I saw his fists clench like he was trying to suppress his anger.
“I pity whoever ends up with you, I wonder how she will feel knowing that the person that she lays with tortures innocent people,” I pressed further.
“Innocent? You are anything but innocent. You killed three of my men,” he spat.
“I would never have killed them if you didn't bring me here. Tell me alpha , why did you bring me here? You could have killed me on the battlefield but you brought me here, why?” I asked him because that's a question I've been dying to know.
“I can't tell you that woman,” he growled. “Enough! Don't talk to me like that, like I am beneath you” he gritted out.
“I know why you brought me here,” I said and I could swear I saw him freeze.
He gulped, “so you know now?”
I nodded. “I know you're sick! You're a sick bastard that loves torturing people. I wonder how your mother feels knowing that this is the kind of leader you are,” I fumed.
“Don't talk about my mother” he warned, his wolf surfacing.
“Why shouldn't I? You're scared that if you think about it, I'm somewhat right. You know it. God, it feels so good to get it all off my chest. Now you know what I think about you” I laughed out.
Letting people know they're shit Really helps.
We both sat in silence for a while. He stared into space while I lay there counting my days, that's if I'm going to live up to anyone.
“What do you think of alpha?” I asked him, staring at him from the corner of my eye.
“If I gave you a knife, would you stab me?” He asked.
Is he nuts?
“No, I would not,” I said.
“Why? If you hate me so much, why won't you kill me?” He asked
I grinned at him. “Because I'd rather dissect you. I killed your guards because they attacked me, they didn't really have a reason to kill me. But you, you have a lot of reasons to kill me. My brother killed your mother right?”
“You want to use me to prove to yourself that you are strong— you are that powerful alpha, seeing me in pain gives you a sense of triumph.” I smiled. “What did I ever do to you Ryker?” I asked him.
“My mother did nothing to your brother,” He pointed out.
“Get revenge,” I persisted. “Everyone already thinks I'm crazy.”
He got on his feet and stared at me irritable. “They didn't lie. You're insane.”
“Everyone knows that. What they don't know is that you're a failure because of your facade. You do it really well.”
He straddled me, anger evident in his eyes and his red eyes were a deeper colour now. I wanted to back away, to run, but I couldn't. He placed his big hand on my thigh and leaned in closer, sealing the gap between us.
I was choked. I became aware of his minty breath on my neck and how smelly I was and how intoxicating his scent was. He gazed into my eyes. I saw anger but there was still a softness that lingered there.
“You don't know anything about responsibility,” he muttered. “Neither do you know anything about family, Roxanne.”
“Why are you punishing me?” I inquired. “Keeping me here isn't doing justice. I am not getting better. I feel dead yet alive.”
He gazed into my eyes. “I'm not going to have blood stains of White moon on my hands Roxanne. I would have done you the favor of a mercy killing but I'd rather death take you in its cold arms.”
I nodded. “So this is about Zane? Isn't it?”
He glared at me for a while before walking out, leaving my question in the air and my tears slowly dropping.
